Book Norfolk Island s Fascinating Flora

Download or read book Norfolk Island s Fascinating Flora written by Peter Coyne and published by Peter Coyne. This book was released on 2011-12-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Norfolk Island (South Pacific) has some of the world’s rarest plant species. Of the 182 native plant species, 43 are endemic; that is they occur naturally nowhere else, 47 are listed nationally under Australian law as extinct or threatened and 30 more are already extinct, threatened or rare on the island. This book provides information (with illustrations) on each of the native species and some of the most important introduced plants which grow wild on the island. It also contains a chapter on the cultural use of plants from 1856. The book has previously unpublished paintings by John Doody from 1792 and paintings by famous botanical artist Ferdinand Bauer from 1804 in addition to more than 400 photographs. 192 pages 170 x 227 mm, full colour, with references and index.

Book Integrative taxonomy resolves the cryptic and pseudo cryptic Radula buccinifera complex Porellales Jungermanniopsida including two reinstated and five new species

Download or read book Integrative taxonomy resolves the cryptic and pseudo cryptic Radula buccinifera complex Porellales Jungermanniopsida including two reinstated and five new species written by Matt A.M. Renner and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2013-10-30 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular data from three chloroplast markers resolve individuals attributable to Radula buccinifera in six lineages belonging to two subgenera, indicating the species is polyphyletic as currently circumscribed. All lineages are morphologically diagnosable, but one pair exhibits such morphological overlap that they can be considered cryptic. Molecular and morphological data justify the reinstatement of a broadly circumscribed ecologically variable R. strangulata, of R. mittenii, and the description of five new species.

Book Atlas of Pyrenulaceae and Trypetheliaceae Vol 3

Download or read book Atlas of Pyrenulaceae and Trypetheliaceae Vol 3 written by Felix Schumm and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-12-20 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on two families of lichenized ascomycetes: Pyrenulaceae and Trypetheliaceae. It illustrated the majority of the accepted species in these families, which are most diverse on bark in tropical regions, most especially the Amazon. Fully updated dichotomous identification keys are given to all species in these families and to some similar groups and species, especially those in the same habitat, several of which are also illustrated in full. The illustrations are made from relatively recent material which still shows all characters, including gelatinous ascopore sheaths. For relatively recently described species, often type material is illustrated.

Book Recovering Australian Threatened Species

Download or read book Recovering Australian Threatened Species written by Stephen Garnett and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2018-03 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Australia’s nature is exceptional, wonderful and important. But much has been lost, and the ongoing existence of many species now hangs by a thread. Against a relentless tide of threats to our biodiversity, many Australians, and government and non-government agencies, have devoted themselves to the challenge of conserving and recovering plant and animal species that now need our help to survive. This dedication has been rewarded with some outstanding and inspiring successes: of extinctions averted, of populations increasing, of communities actively involved in recovery efforts. Recovering Australian Threatened Species showcases successful conservation stories and identifies approaches and implementation methods that have been most effective in recovering threatened species. These diverse accounts – dealing with threatened plants, invertebrates, fish, reptiles, birds and mammals – show that the conservation of threatened species is achievable: that it can be done and should be done. They collectively serve to inform, guide and inspire other conservation efforts. This is a book of hope and inspiration. It shows that with dedication, knowledge and support, we can retain and restore our marvellous natural heritage, and gift to our descendants a world that is as diverse, healthy and beautiful as that which we have inherited.

This book offers answers relevant to toponymists, linguists, island studies scholars, and anthropologists.
