Book Milk Production and Reproductive Performances of Cross Breeds Cattle

Download or read book Milk Production and Reproductive Performances of Cross Breeds Cattle written by Wassie Teketay and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main goal of this book is to share knowledge on milk production and reproductive performances of cross-bred cattle and the effect of both genetic and non genetic factors on these performances based on research results which are conducted in different areas on different cross- bred cattle. Production environments vary as a result of different management practices and constantly changing climatic conditions leading to variability in animal performance. An animal of high genetic value may perform dismally when the production environment is not right due to the negative interaction between the animal's genes and its environment. This book is made up of two parts; the first part contain daily milk yield, lactation milk yield and lactation length of different cross-breds with reasonable explanation and factors affecting this performances. The second part provides good information on reproductive performances of cross-bred cattle and the effect of both genetic and non genetic factors on this performance based on research results. Both parts have useful information for researches, dairy business man and for lectures.

Book A Crossbreeding Experiment with Dairy Cattle

Download or read book A Crossbreeding Experiment with Dairy Cattle written by Milton Henry Fohrman and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1939, when the Bureau of Dairy Industry began its crossbreeding experiment at Beltsville, the published information on the crossbreeding of dairy cattle was slight, unimpressive, and very little of it was based on experimental results. The crossbreeding investigations at Beltsville were undertaken to develop knowledge on the subject which would provide a sound basis for advising the operators of milk-producing farms what to expect if they used crossbreeding in hopes of producing better replacements for their milking herds. Final results on any dairy cattle breeding research project cannot be published until the last animal on the project has died, so this report covers the breeding performance and milk and butterfat production on all individuals used on the project which have had time to complete a normal first-lactation period.

Book Productive and reproductive Performance of indigenous Beef Cattle in Ethiopia

Download or read book Productive and reproductive Performance of indigenous Beef Cattle in Ethiopia written by Tajudin Denur and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-02-01 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2020 im Fachbereich Gesundheit - Ernährungswissenschaft, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: The aim of this review is to summarize the productive and reproductive performance of different indigenous cattle breeds under farmer’s management practices. Ethiopia is the home of large numbers of livestock due to having varied and extensive agro-ecological zones. From the total annual milk produced cattle milk, is the most prominent compared to other livestock species in Ethiopia. And also from the total annual meat produced cattle meat is the most prominent compared to other livestock species in Ethiopia. Numerous finding showed that calving interval, age at first calving, age at first service, number of service per conception and days open are one of the major measures of reproductive performance parameters for beef cattle production. Weight at different ages (including birth weight, weaning weight, 3 month weight, 6 month weight and yearling weight), meat yield, growth rate and carcass yield are one of the major measures of productive performance parameters for beef cattle production. Different report indicated that productive and reproductive performances of our indigenous cattle are very poor due to varied factors; the causes for low performances of beef cattle were genetic and environmental factors like feeding, housing and health care. In Ethiopia most of (98.20%) cattle breeds are local breeds the remaining (1.8%) are hybrid and exotic breeds. Then, the genetic performances of these breeds are poor, even though they have good adaptation in harsh environmental conditions. So, training and awareness creation should be given particularly to the farmers on major management practices like feeding, housing and health care and genetic improvement strategies should planned and practiced.

Book Ecology Capitalism and the New Agricultural Economy

Download or read book Ecology Capitalism and the New Agricultural Economy written by Gilles Allaire and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-11-14 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With increasing pressure on resources, the looming spectre of climate change and growing anxiety among eaters, ecology and food are at the heart of the political debates surrounding agriculture and diet. This unique contribution unravels agri-environmental issues at different spatial levels, from local to global, documenting the major shifts in agriculture from a long-term perspective. The book begins by exploring the changes in the industrialisation and socialisation of agriculture over time, through the lens of institutional economics including The French Regulation School and Conventions Theory. Building on Polanyi’s ‘Great Transformation’, the chapters in this volume analyse long-term and contemporary changes in agriculture and food systems that have occurred throughout the last few centuries. Key chapters focus on the historical changes in provisioning and the social relations of production, consumption, and regulation of food in different socio-political contexts. The future of agriculture is addressed through an analysis of controversial contemporary political claims and their engagement with strategies that aim to improve the sustainability of agriculture and food consumption. To shed light on ongoing changes and the future of food, this book asks important environmental and social questions and analyses how industrial agriculture has played out in various contexts. It is recommended supplementary reading for postgraduates and researchers in agricultural studies, food studies, food policy, the agri-food political economy and political and economic geography.

Book Breeding for robustness in cattle

Download or read book Breeding for robustness in cattle written by Marija Klopcic and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-09-04 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past decade has revealed unfavourable trends in e.g. fertility, udder health and locomotion in some major dairy cattle breeds due to a large increase in production and insufficient consideration of functional traits in the breeding goals. Such unfavourable trends in some functional traits increase costs. Additionally, the enlargement of herds leads to less available labour time per individual cow. This asks for cows that are easy to handle. At the same time, society is demanding a higher welfare standard of animals. These contradicting developments have increased the desire for so called more robust animals. Robustness can be defined as 'the ability to maintain homeostasis in commonly accepted and sustainable herds of the near future'; or 'the ability of the cow to function well in the environment she lives in as well as in a wide range of climates and production systems'. This book contains a series of articles (26) dealing with the concept of robustness, including aspects like evolution, genetics, environment, animal health and welfare, and integrity. Besides the major functional traits also the links to energy balance, hot climatic conditions, and the attitude and input of stakeholders towards robustness as part of the breeding program are discussed. This book is the first attempt to summarise the available knowledge concerning this topic in cattle, making this book unique. The contributions are from authors of 16 countries from all over the world. However, the focus is presently on farm animal level, while in future robustness of the whole production system may also require additional attention.

Book Effect of Cross Breeding on the Performance of Dairy Cattle

Download or read book Effect of Cross Breeding on the Performance of Dairy Cattle written by P. K. Vij and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study was undertaken to compare half breds and 3/4th exotic crosses of holstein brown swiss and jersecy with Zebu in two three and four breed combinations. A total of 730 records of different genetic groups were analysed. Growth reproduction and production traits were analysed. The study revealed that holstein sired crosses showed the highest body weights at different ages and excelled all other genetic groups for all reproduction and production traits. Use of superior sires is called for in crossbreeding programme whatever be the exotic breed under consideration. Halfbreeds proved to be the best for growth production and reproduction characters as compared to 3/4th exotic crosses. Intersemating accompanied by selection at 50 percent level inheritance appears to be an ideal long term breeding policy for crossbred cattle.

They not only provide us with a vital food source, but they also provide us with fertilizer and fuel. Keeping reproduction levels at an optimum level is therefore essential, but this is often a complicated process, especially with modern, high yielding cows. Written in a practical and user-friendly style, this book aims to help the reader understand cattle reproduction by explaining the underlying physiology of the reproductive process and the role and importance of pharmacology and technology, and showing how management techniques can improve reproductive efficiency. This edition includes: Recent research findings on the physiology of the oestrous cycle and its control; New techniques for monitoring and manipulating reproduction, including pregnancy diagnosis and embryo transfer; Advice on identifying common infertility problems and how to prevent and treat them. Reproduction Cattle 3e is essential reading for veterinary and agricultural students, as well as veterinarians and farmers involved in cattle reproduction.
