Book Microtia and Atresia Combined Approach by Plastic and Otologic Surgery

Download or read book Microtia and Atresia Combined Approach by Plastic and Otologic Surgery written by K. Kaga and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2013-10-14 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remarkable progress in the development of new concepts and techniques used in reconstructive surgery of microtia/atresia of the external auditory canal (EAC) has been made since the beginning of the 21st century. Helical computed tomography has made a three-dimensional reconstruction of the soft tissue of the temporal bone surface and the cranium possible, and has laid the groundwork for a collaboration between plastic surgeons and otologists. This book presents the latest findings on reconstructive surgery performed jointly by plastic surgeons and otologists. Based on this concept, information on diagnosis, surgical procedures, outcomes, long-term results and psychology is discussed. Collaborative surgery offers advantages not only in terms of a better reconstruction of morphology and function, but also in terms of the lower number of surgical procedures required which reduces the psychological pressure and economic burden on patients.

Book Modern Microtia Reconstruction

Download or read book Modern Microtia Reconstruction written by John F. Reinisch and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-04 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microtia is a rare congenital deformity where the external ear is underdeveloped or absent. Occurring on average in one out of 12,000 children born in the world, there are very few books dedicated to ear reconstruction and microtia, specifically. Microtia reconstruction is a relatively uncommon and notoriously difficult procedure, where hearing as well as external ear deformity need to be addressed. This book is the result of 30 years dedicated to the surgical treatment of microtia: understanding in depth the pathophysiology and trying various surgical techniques to provide long lasting and pleasing aesthetic and functional results. With the limited amount of published information on microtia and ear reconstruction, Modern Microtia Reconstruction shines significant light on the new techniques and advances currently available. It presents advanced surgical techniques alongside inventive approaches that will lay the foundation on which surgeons can continue to expand their knowledge and know-how of the surgical approach of ear reconstruction. While the literature that is currently available on ear reconstruction focuses primarily on cartilage-based surgery, this book explores several other techniques detailing their advantages and disadvantages for both the surgeon and the patient discussing techniques for primary ear reconstruction, secondary ear reconstruction, reconstruction in the unsatisfied patient, as well as for post-traumatic ear reconstruction. Providing not only full-color images and illustrations but extensive video clips of each surgical technique to truly see and experience the subtleties of the surgery in a variety of patients. The primary audience is plastic surgeons, ENT surgeons, oral/maxillofacial surgeons, audiologists, physician’s assistants, and nurse practitioners with a secondary audience of course being highly knowledgeable parents of patients with microtia. With over a quarter of a century experience between the two editors, this book represents a major advance in showing a reliable approach to ear reconstruction surgery

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The comparison of established methods in surgery is necessary in order to evaluate the advantages or disadvantages of each. We have therefore tried to include discussions of all the problems which arise in the treat ment of long-gap esophageal atresia. The long-term results of different types of colonic interposition, of different "stretching" procedures, and of simple staged surgery seemed especially worthy of discussion. It was also important to describe the role of complications caused by special pathology of the trachea in esophageal atresia and their management. Second, new problems continue to arise with regard to the prenatal diagnosis of malformations. These new aspects will continue to exert an influence on our surgical field. Malformations pose severe problems for parents, the growing fetus, and the doctors and are lasting burdens on our task. PETER WURNIG, Vienna Contents I.
