Book excerpt: Cue-Bidding to Slams covers a vital area generally neglected in bridge literature. It deals with the principals and methods used in standard cue-bidding to enable first- and second-round controls to be located. A sound approach to hand valuation is included and will allow the partnership to find slams based on good fit and avoid slams which are a poor risk. Guide-lines are supplied to help with the vexed question of when to cue-bid and when simply to ask for aces. Written in a clear and easy-to-follow style, with plentiful examples, the book will provide a partnership with the basis for competent and successful slam-bidding, which will lead not only to consistently better results but also to more satisfaction and enjoyment.

Book excerpt: Everyone knows that control-showing bids are the expert route to slam, but it is remarkably hard to find a comprehensive treatment of this vital area of the game. Until now, that is. This is a comprehensive work, covering a lot of territory. The average reader won't agree with everything they read - and it would be a mammoth undertaking to try and adopt it all - but it will get them thinking about their bidding and offer many ways to improve it. After all, bridge is the ultimate game for thinkers. This book fills an important gap in the literature of bridge for serious players.

Book 2 1 Game Force System

  • Author : Neil H. Timm PhD
  • Publisher : Trafford Publishing
  • Release : 2020-10-27
  • ISBN : 1698701675
  • Pages : 601 pages

Download or read book 2 1 Game Force System written by Neil H. Timm PhD and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-27 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2/1 Game Force System is an improvement over the Standard American System that has been in effect and played by bridge players for many years. The advantage of the 2/1 System is that it allows the partnership to know that game is possible with only an initial single bid. This book is about bridge that incorporates conventions that allow partnership’s to reach game or slam. In this regard, I have incorporated modern methods for hand evaluation developed by Marty Bergen called the ADJUST-3 Method and Zar points, new bidding conventions like SARS (Shape Asking Relays after Stayman) and Quest transfers, and an overview of “Bridge Rules and Laws” that I hope will improve your approach to the bidding structure you may use today. Also included is the bidding structure are Bergen, Reverse Bergen, and Combined Bergen major suit raises, inverted minor suit raises with crisscross and flip-flop, cue bidding, modified scroll bids, and many more methods not used in Standard American or Precision. The bidding conventions in the previous editions have been enhanced, corrected, expanded upon, and reorganized with new ones added. Given the release of the new ACBL convention charts, the chapter with the modifications to Fantunes, in my prior edition, is no longer needed. Fantunes may now be played using the Open Convention Chart. The Mid-chart no longer exits. Hence, I have deleted the chapter and replaced it with a new chapter on Bridge Tips, and Agreements. New conventions include a Modern Splinter Bidding Convention, the Zirconia Convention, Unusual 2-level bids, Jump Transfer bids, a new Two-Way Check-back Convention, 1430 Modified Jacoby 2NT*, additional Bridge Rules with more examples, Four-Way Transfers with the range ask bid and more are included in this edition. Also included is an update of the Minorwood and the Roman Keycard Blackwood Conventions, Two-Way New Minor Forcing with modified Wolff Signoff bids and new bidding sequences using Mini/Weak Notrump. The topic of Offense to Defense Ratio (ODR) is included in this revision as well as expanded bidding sequences when opening and responding to the bid of 2 playing the 2/1 Game Force System and many new Bridge Rules have been added to Chapter 10. A copy of this book is on the web site www.bridgewebs.com/ocala. A hard copy is available from the publisher or from Amazon.com – search on neil timm.

Book Focus on Bidding

Download or read book Focus on Bidding written by Danny Roth and published by Master Point Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is not a book about systems, nor is it a book about conventions. It is a book about bidding, and the places in the auction where so many bridge players go wrong. When should you pull partner's penalty double? When should you [you] run from an opponent's double? If you have a good hand partner preempts, when (and how) should you bid on? When is it right to open 1NT with a five-card major? If you want to learn how to make more good bidding decisions, this book is for you."--Back cover

Book The Weak Notrump

Download or read book The Weak Notrump written by Andy Stark and published by Master Point Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All North American players are taught to play using a strong notrump, but that is not the way of the rest of the world. Even in North America, weak notrump systems, or even Kamikaze notrump systems, are becoming more common. This book discusses the advantages and disadvantages of playing a system with a weaker notrump opening, and shows how the 1NT range impacts the rest of the bidding system. Even those who have no interest in converting to a weak notrump range still need to know how to play against weak notrump systems. For them, the book includes advice on effective competitive methods.

Book Shortness

    Book Details:
  • Author : James Marsh Sternberg MD
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2021-11-25
  • ISBN : 1665545674
  • Pages : 144 pages

Download or read book Shortness written by James Marsh Sternberg MD and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-11-25 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about only one thing. Shortness, singletons or voids. It’s impossible to overestimate the value distribution plays in bidding accuracy. High cards are nice; anybody can bid games and slams when the high cards are falling out of their hands onto the table. But usually those results don’t get you very far. It’s usually an average or maybe just above. You don’t win bridge tournaments that way. The pairs who bid games and slams on less and who accurately stay out of bad games and slams, those are the winners. When the ‘room’ is in 3NT scoring +460 or +490 and you are in six diamonds scoring +920, then come and tell me about it. I’ve tried to cover the different ways a player can ask or tell about shortness. The book is divided into chapters on offense and defense. There are different ways to do things in bridge. I’ve presented a system I’ve learned from some of the best. You may prefer something else. Whatever works, great. I want to give you some things to think about and suggest solutions. There are lots of ways to do things in bridge. This is one way. I hope you fi nd it helpful at the table. James Marsh Sternberg, MD Palm Beach Gardens, FL
