Queen Marie-Antoinette, who had first met Von Fersen when they both were eighteen, was especially attracted by the grace and wit of "le beau" Von Fersen. However, it was nearly four years later, on Fersen's second visit to France in the summer of 1778, when the relationship blossomed.
