Book The Functions Powers and Resources of the Information Commissioner

Download or read book The Functions Powers and Resources of the Information Commissioner written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Justice Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2013-03-21 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Information Commissioner's responsibilities look set to expand dramatically as a result of EU Data Protection laws and the possible implementation of recommendations about his role made in the Leveson Report. This could result in a funding shortfall of £42.8 million that may have to be paid for by the taxpayer. The removal of the notification fee payable to him by data controllers and other funding cuts could compromise his work unless Government finds a solution. The Information Commissioner has handled more casework and significantly cutting the backlog of freedom of information appeals at the same time as reducing his budget. The funding for freedom of information work was cut by 23% from £5.5 million in 2011-12 to £4.25 million in 2012-13. This report reiterates the Committee's recommendation that the penalties for data protection offences must be increased to provide a more effective deterrent and asks why the Government has not adopted recommendations that custodial sentences should be made available for breaches of section 55 of the Data Protection Act. There are also concerns that a significant number of public sector bodies that handle sensitive private data have refused free audits from the Information Commissioner that could identify security problems in the way they are handling data. The MPs call for compulsory audits to be extended to NHS Trusts and local councils. The Committee also reiterates its view that the Information Commissioner should be granted greater independence from the executive by being made directly responsible to, and funded by, Parliament

Book Non financial Disclosure and Integrated Reporting

Download or read book Non financial Disclosure and Integrated Reporting written by Lino Cinquini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-18 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasingly crucial role of companies’ non-financial disclosure (NFD) and integrated reporting (IR) has led to a lively debate among academics, practitioners, and regulators on the approaches, framework, contents, principles, and standards that should oversee these forms of reporting. Through several expert contributions, conducted both with qualitative and quantitative methodologies, this book provides an up-to-date portrait of the debate by exploring corporate NFD either in its mandated contents or voluntary information. Contributing authors provide studies that encompass the different lines of NFD, namely non-financial risk reporting, sustainability reporting, and intellectual capital reporting, as well as the integration of financial and non-financial information through IR, the assurance of the NFD and IR through auditing activities, and the role of management and CFOs in NFD and IR.

Book Accountability Ethics and Sustainability of Organizations

Download or read book Accountability Ethics and Sustainability of Organizations written by Sandro Brunelli and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains how the traditional paradigm of private and public organizations is changing as a result of the multiple factors that are affecting the way in which goods and services are produced, and for whom they are produced. In view of these disruptive trends, the theory of the firm needs to be updated and to some extent rethought. Moreover, diverse challenges and opportunities such as climate change, aging populations, and new public accountability requirements are necessitating novel frameworks to ensure the long-term survival of public and private organizations. Against this backdrop, the authors contribute to the debate over the firm’s primary interest by proposing a new way of viewing the nature of the firm and its relationship with stakeholders. In addition, they carefully analyze the challenges and opportunities mentioned above, evaluating their significance for various important aspects of organizations through different lenses. Global in scope, the book also takes the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals into account. Accordingly, it will be of interest to all readers seeking a better understanding of the evolving nature of firms and organizations in our changing world.

Book Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government

Download or read book Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government written by United States Government Accountability Office and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-03-24 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policymakers and program managers are continually seeking ways to improve accountability in achieving an entity's mission. A key factor in improving accountability in achieving an entity's mission is to implement an effective internal control system. An effective internal control system helps an entity adapt to shifting environments, evolving demands, changing risks, and new priorities. As programs change and entities strive to improve operational processes and implement new technology, management continually evaluates its internal control system so that it is effective and updated when necessary. Section 3512 (c) and (d) of Title 31 of the United States Code (commonly known as the Federal Managers? Financial Integrity Act (FMFIA)) requires the Comptroller General to issue standards for internal control in the federal government.

This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TERI Energy & Environment Data Diary and Yearbook (TEDDY) is an annual publication brought out by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) since 1986. It is the only comprehensive energy and environment yearbook in India that provides updated information on the energy supply sectors (coal and lignite, petroleum and natural gas, power, and renewable energy sources), energy demand sectors (agriculture, industry, transport, household), and local and global environment sectors (environment and climate change). The publication also provides a review of the government policies that have implications for the sectors of the Indian economy. In TEDDY, an account of India’s commercial energy balances is given, which provide comprehensive information on energy flows within different sectors of the economy and how they have been changing over time. These energy balances and conversion factors are a valuable ready reckoner for researchers, scholars, and organizations working in the energy sector. After the introductory chapters, for the ease of readers, TEDDY has been divided into sections on energy supply, energy demand, and local and global environment. Interactive graphs, figures, maps, and tables have been used throughout the chapters to explain facts, which make the book an interesting read. In addition, detailed tables at the end of each chapter represent statistical data on each of the above-mentioned sectors. The publication is accompanied by a complimentary CD containing full text. The publication has more than 15,000 readers across the globe and is often cited in international peer-reviewed journals and policy documents.

Book The Role of the Charity Commission and Public Benefit

Download or read book The Role of the Charity Commission and Public Benefit written by Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons. Public Administration Select Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2013-06-06 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report into the implementation of the Charities Act 2006 finds the Charity Commission being asked to do too much, with too little. The charitable sector is at the heart of UK society, involving millions of people and £9.3 billion received in donations in 2011/2012. Around 25 new applications for charitable status are received by the Charity Commission every working day. Among the reports findings are: one of the keys tests set by the Charities Act 2006 for determining charitable status-the public benefit test-is critically flawed; the Government should revise the statutory objectives for the Charity Commission, to allow the Commission to focus its limited resources on regulating the sector; the proposal to increase the financial threshold for compulsory registration of a charity with the Charity Commission should be rejected; charities should publish their spending on campaigning and political activity. PASC criticises the way the Charity Commission has interpreted public benefit under the Act. The Committee also considered the impact of face-to-face fundraising, or "chugging"-on the street or on the doorstep-and warns that self-regulation has failed so far to generate the level of public confidence which is essential to maintain the reputation of the charitable sector. The evidence was clear that the regulation of fundraising remains a concern for many members of the public. Two in three people have reported feeling uncomfortable as a result of the fundraising methods used by some charities.
