Book Implementing Lean ISO 9001 in Public Administration

Download or read book Implementing Lean ISO 9001 in Public Administration written by Petter Ogland and published by . This book was released on 2021-09-26 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on a four-year study in a public sector organisation that starts by observing the nature of a "fake quality" culture, and then investigates the organisational methods of misrepresenting Lean ISO 9001 as a possibility for bootstrapping proper Lean ISO 9001. Contrary to common beliefs about how an anti-quality culture can never function as a basis for real Lean and real ISO 9001, the assumption in this book is that even the most dysfunctional organisation must be doing something right, so the quest is to identify seeds of opportunity and use this as a basis for cultivation.

Book ISO 9001 and Lean

Download or read book ISO 9001 and Lean written by Douglas Meyer and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-03-04 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISO 9000 is a comprehensive set of international standards for quality management and quality assurance. These standards ensure that companies effectively document all aspects of their quality management to show transparency and efficiency within all processes. They are not industry specific and pertain to organizations of any size. Continuous improvement is a key facet of the ISO 9001 standard (the particular standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system), but it does not explain how to implement or maintain this improvement. Lean production methodologies surely provide this crucial and tactical information. Adding Lean production methodologies to quality management systems effectively focuses these improvement activities. In the long run, it will save companies much time and money. This book, written in the novel format, discusses the symbiotic relationship between ISO 9001 and Lean as both can be seamlessly integrated. It shows how Lean provides the process improvements that are required by the ISO 9001 quality management system – Lean is crucial for identifying and removing waste from your processes, which ultimately creates greater customer value. In addition, the book shows the crucial financial benefits of this integration. This novel clearly illustrates that these two systems can function effectively is one understands the complex balance of standardization and change. ISO 9001 is clearly controlled and audited while Lean is often empowering, less meticulously audited, and rarely controlled. While presenting interesting characters and interactions, this fictional story embeds real-life manufacturing speak with a message of the importance of successful synergy between Lean practitioners, production leaders, and quality departments.

Book Organizational Change through Lean Methodologies

Download or read book Organizational Change through Lean Methodologies written by A. Heri Iswanto and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-11 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lean is a type of organizational change brought about through improvement methods based on cost reduction mechanism. The assumption is that by reducing costs, the organizations can work better and more efficiently. All changes in lean-based organizations are directed at reducing these costs by identifying and eliminating waste. The thinking is that cost reduction will increase efficiency since, basically, it removes process inefficiencies and decreases cycle time. Why are targets directed at cost reduction? Because costs are a crucial factor for sustainable business organization. Lean thinking cuts the value of scale production by looking at the existing waste in a process. Production remains the same, but the costs of goods production are reduced due to the elimination of waste in the process. As a result, companies do not have to increase their production if it is not required, giving companies an increase in average profits due to lean and the elimination of identified waste. The focus on cost reduction can be included in the overall lean concept since cost wasting is only a part of the existing waste. In other words, other waste can be converted into costs or perceived as a value. This book starts the mental process of organization change through lean thinking. It provides the background and history of lean, and then gets into how the lean process works. The author also discusses why an organization should implement lean as a method to increase quality and engage workers in the process, thereby increasing efficiency and, ultimately, profitability. Through case studies and examples from Indonesia, the author describes how to create a value stream to identify waste and discusses the concept of a pull system and its impact on the process.

Book Lean in the Public Sector

Download or read book Lean in the Public Sector written by Zoe Radnor and published by . This book was released on 2014-10-26 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public Sector organizations have experienced a rise in the use of business process improvement methodologies including Lean, Six Sigma, and their counterparts. The evidence of their implementation includes Health, Central Government, Local Government, Police and Fire Service organizations within the UK, Europe, Australia, and the US. The drivers for introducing business process improvement methodologies include government agendas, struggle with performance indicators, introduction of new leadership or technology, threat of competition, demand for increased efficiency and the need for service expansion with limited resources. The level of interest in Lean in Public Services is high as it is seen as a ‘solution’ to many of the performance, efficiency, and economic agendas currently prominent in the public sector. This book brings together a consolidated view supported through literature and empirical evidence on the why, what, how, and where of Lean in Public Services. It provides a history of Lean (and associated techniques within Public Services), presenting the tools used and outlining the success factors and barriers to implementing Lean in Public Services. As well as presenting a framework for researchers and policy makers to implement Lean improvement methodologies, the volume draws on a range of literature and raises questions on the applicability of a methodology originally developed for a private manufacturing context.

Book Lean Six Sigma for the Public Sector

Download or read book Lean Six Sigma for the Public Sector written by Brandon Cole and published by Quality Press. This book was released on 2010-11-19 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizations are continuously trying to improve by reducing cost, increasing customer satisfaction, and creating an environment of empowered employees who continuously strive for excellence in each process and product. In much the same way, governments are continuously required to do “more with less,” enhance budget and organizational performance, and identify innovative ways to increase their impact. There are challenges to applying the Lean-Six Sigma (LSS) tools in the public sector. Examples of these challenges include hierarchical environments, a lack of common goals, and the complexity of working in the public sector. The information included as part of this book provides over 30 spotlights highlighting project examples, lessons learned, and tips and tricks for using LSS in the public sector. These spotlights are based on interviews facilitated with a robust sampling of senior operations strategy practitioners. The LSS methodology focuses on eliminating waste (lean) and then reducing variation (Six Sigma) in a process or product that contains no waste. The information covered in this book will allow someone to have an immediate impact in any public sector organization. It describes some of the most powerful continuous process improvement tools that can be used, with limited training required. This is further enhanced by showing direct correlations to the LSS tools and the challenges that will be faced. Because the public sector spans such a diverse range of organizational charters (such as transportation, education, and defense), this book does not focus solely on either manufacturing or services. Rather, it provides a balanced approach to utilizing LSS in all environments.

Book excerpt: The standard tells you what to implement; this book focuses on how and why. Many organizations implement ISO 9001 and see only mild improvements. This book is a collection of concepts that can assist you in implementing a very successful ISO 9001 quality management system. Its concepts go beyond the basic implementation steps so widely available in the marketplace, instead helping you to use the ISO 9001 standard as a tool for organizational growth and success. Each of these chapters includes sporadic WHAT TO DO action items to transform theory into practice. This book is intended for anyone leading the ISO 9001 implementation effort, including quality managers, management reps, executives, and consultants. It is to be used in addition to ISO 9001 training courses, packages, and consulting assistance. Read this book while you are simultaneously attending ISO 9001 courses, going through purchased how to” packages, or working with a consultant. Review it again as your implementation nears certification. Reread the later sections of the book after certification is achieved.

Book Using ISO 9001 in Healthcare

Download or read book Using ISO 9001 in Healthcare written by James M. Levett and published by Quality Press. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISO 9001 offers an orderly, disciplined approach to managing a healthcare organization. When applied conscientiously, an ISO management system will provide a framework for improvement efforts and the discipline to demonstrate outcomes. A lot has changed since the first edition of this book was published in June of 2011. Most notably, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was passed and is being implemented throughout the country. Although the long-term effects of the ACA will not be determined for several years, it is clear that most Americans will be affected in some way and that that the provider and payer communities are undergoing rapid changes. Even amongst all this uncertainty, the challenges faced by provider organizations can be dealt with most effectively by using an ISO 9001 quality management system. Each of the authors in this book has instituted ISO 9001:2008 as a management system: one in a multi-specialty group practice, the other in a global government healthcare system. Their reasons were different, but in both cases, they established a management system that could respond to diverse needs without adding expenses to their organizations.
