Download or read book Jewels of the Crown written by Sonya Hastings and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2022-04-19 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This novel, although fiction, is based on a true story. The story is one of prodigies, of magic, of truth and righteousness and last but not least, of love; for every answer to every question lives inside of love. The Jewel of the Crown is one of three novels- a trilogy. The sequel that will follow is the novel- The War of Holy Hell, which will pick up where this novel leaves off. The story of the Jewels of the Crown in genre is considered a paranormal love story, however has a strong Christian undertone. My novel dictates a story of good verses evil; for one cannot believe in one and not the other, as they both equally exist. If you are a Christian who believes in your God and in your Lord Jesus Christ, this novel will lighten your heart, renew your faith and bring you hope. If you are a non-believer, I challenge you to read this novel anyway and with an open mind and think outside the box. Ask yourself, could there be a chance that I am wrong?

Download or read book Labor of Love written by Heather Jacobson and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2016-03-15 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the practice of surrogacy has existed for millennia, new fertility technologies have allowed women to act as gestational surrogates, carrying children that are not genetically their own. While some women volunteer to act as gestational surrogates for friends or family members, others get paid for performing this service. The first ethnographic study of gestational surrogacy in the United States, Labor of Love examines the conflicted attitudes that emerge when the ostensibly priceless act of bringing a child into the world becomes a paid occupation. Heather Jacobson interviews not only surrogate mothers, but also their family members, the intended parents who employ surrogates, and the various professionals who work to facilitate the process. Seeking to understand how gestational surrogates perceive their vocation, she discovers that many regard surrogacy as a calling, but are reluctant to describe it as a job. In the process, Jacobson dissects the complex set of social attitudes underlying this resistance toward conceiving of pregnancy as a form of employment. Through her extensive field research, Jacobson gives readers a firsthand look at the many challenges faced by gestational surrogates, who deal with complicated medical procedures, delicate work-family balances, and tricky social dynamics. Yet Labor of Love also demonstrates the extent to which advances in reproductive technology are affecting all Americans, changing how we think about maternity, family, and the labor involved in giving birth. Download or read book The Conjure Woman new edition written by Charles W. Chesnutt and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-10-22 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An early slave narrative, a skilfully woven satire on the stereotypes of plantation life and the apparently beneficent white owner. Told as a series of gentle fables, in the style of Aesop. Featuring a new introduction for this new edition, The Conjure Woman is probably Chesnutt's most powerful work, a collection of stories set in post-war North Carolina. The main character is Uncle Julius, a former slave, who entertains a white couple from the North with fantastic tales of antebellum plantation life. Julius tells of supernatural phenomenon, hauntings, transfiguration, and conjuring, which were typical of Southern African-American folk tales at the time. Uncle Julius tells the stories in a way that speaks beyond his immediate audience, offering stories of slavery and inequality that are, to the enlightened reader, obviously wrong. The tales are fabulistic, like those of Uncle Remus or Aesop, with carefully crafted allegories on the psychological and social effects of slavery and racial injustice. Foundations of Black Science Fiction. New forewords and fresh introductions give long-overdue perspectives on significant, early Black proto-sci-fi and speculative fiction authors who wrote with natural justice and civil rights in their hearts, their voices reaching forward to the writers of today. The series foreword is by Dr Sandra Grayson.
