Excerpt: This article lists the fictional characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series. Characters in the comics tend to have three separate origins; some of the characters originated from the Sonic the Hedgehog animated series, some originate from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games and the rest were created strictly for the comic. Many of the main protagonist characters are part of the Freedom Fighters, a group of rebels openly opposing the tyrannical oppression of Doctor Robotnik. The main base exists in Knothole, but there are also numerous other groups in different parts of the world as well. This group of characters was initially created for the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon, and then used throughout the comic series. Sonic is a 15 year old blue hedgehog and the star of the comic. As a young boy, his parents were made robotic slaves, without their free-will, by Dr. Robotnik. After this, he was raised by uncle, Sir Charles, or as he refers to him, "Uncle Chuck." He later met Princess Sally Acorn, leader of the Knothole Forest Freedom Fighters. With a common goal of revenge against Dr. Robotnik, and freedom against his tyranny, they team up, making Sonic a co-leader. His trademark red shoes with a white strap are one of a kind, created by Uncle Chuck, because his speed would cause him to wear through shoes too quickly. Princess Sally Acorn is the co-leader of the Freedom Fighters alongside Sonic. She was created as a character for the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon, and then used in the comic as well.
