Book Deregulation of Network Industries

Download or read book Deregulation of Network Industries written by Sam Peltzman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the airline, railroad, telecommunications, and electric power industries are at very different stages in adjusting to regulatory reform, each industry faces the same critical public policy question: Are policymakers taking appropriate steps to stimulate competition or are they turning back the clock by slowing the process of deregulation? This volume addresses that issue and identifies the next steps that policymakers should take to enhance public welfare in the provision of these services. Each chapter identifies the central policy issues that have arisen in each industry as it undergoes transformation to a deregulated environment. The authors reveal the flaws in the residual regulations and make the case for faster and more comprehensive deregulation. A concluding chapter identifies how interest groups continue to exert influence on regulatory agencies and on Congress, potentially undermining deregulation. The papers included here were initially presented in December 1999 at a conference sponsored and organized by the AEI–Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies.

This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Airport and Airway Trust Fund (Trust Fund), and the excise taxes that support the Trust Fund are scheduled for reauthorization at the end of fiscal year 2007. FAA is primarily supported by the Trust Fund, which receives revenues from a series of excise taxes paid by users of the national airspace system (NAS). The Trust Fund's uncommitted balance decreased by more than 70 percent from the end of fiscal year 2001 through the end of fiscal year 2005. The remaining funding is derived from the General Fund. This report focuses on the portion of revenues generated from users of the NAS and addresses the following key questions: (1) What advantages and concerns have been raised about the current approach to collecting revenues from NAS users to fund FAA, and to what extent does available evidence support the concerns? (2) What are the implications of adopting alternative funding options to collect the revenues contributed by users that fund FAA's budget? (3) What are the advantages and disadvantages of authorizing FAA to use debt financing for capital projects? This report is based on interviews

Book Winning Ways through Corporate Governance

Download or read book Winning Ways through Corporate Governance written by Neville Bain and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The motivation for writing this book is the authors' deeply held conviction that good governance is an essential element for any organisation that wishes to maximise its effectiveness. They are not alone in observing that in many cases companies or other organisations that perform badly are often poorly governed. Indeed, the key explanation for poor performance is often poor governance. This observation is not limited geographically and there are many examples from around the world. Concern with good governance is not just limited to the free enterprise system. It is universal.

Book Federal Civil Aviation Programs and the Airport and Airway Trust Fund

Download or read book Federal Civil Aviation Programs and the Airport and Airway Trust Fund written by Blake M. Schmidt and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs and activities are funded under four broad budget accounts: operations and maintenance (such as air traffic control and aviation safety functions); facilities and equipment (such as control towers and navigation beacons); grants for airport improvements under the airports improvement program (AIP); and civil aviation research and development conducted by the Department of Transportation (DOT), including the Essential Air Service Program that subsidises airline service to certain small and isolated communities. These programs are funded primarily through a special trust fund, the Airport and Airways Trust Fund (AATF), and in part, through general fund contributions. This book provides an overview of the FAA and DOT civil aviation programs addressed in the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, enacted on February 14, 2012, which authorises AATF taxes and revenue collections and civil aviation program expenditures through fiscal year 2015.
