Book Fragrance of Remembering Celebrating Mom

Download or read book Fragrance of Remembering Celebrating Mom written by Zia Hajeebhoy and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2022-11-19 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About Mom Mom had her own brand of intuition and wisdom. Her biggest gift was her ability to love all her four children absolutely equally and unconditionally. The most valuable gift she left us, is the ability to love life, to see joy and beauty in every thing. To sing, to explore, to experience. To make friends and welcome people into our lives and hearts, unconditionally, non judgmentally. She taught us the value of humanity. Ours was a secular home. Every one was welcome and no one was an outsider. We celebrated every festival, we prayed to no one God. We simply lived good lives. Moms amazing feat was that she called every one for their birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions year on year. She never missed it. People young and old, from all walks of life looked forward to that call. People will miss that call. Instead of a funeral we celebrated her life of inclusivity. No ceremonies. Six different people from diverse communities said a short prayer each. We shared stories and sang all her favourite songs. We dressed her to look beautiful as she wanted to. We cut her cake and sang happy birthday. As her ashes flowed away into her beloved Arabian sea, we sang Abide With Me, a hymn she loved. Mom went the way she lived. Smiling, caring, living. I am grateful to the universe for this blessing. I celebrate the long life Mom lived through these memories. I hope to give comfort to those who have lost loved ones. Many much too early. Many in difficult circumstances during Covid. Thank you to friends and family and to Mom, who ensured that we all stayed connected, leaving us with a legacy of love.

Book We Celebrate Our Mother and Father

Download or read book We Celebrate Our Mother and Father written by Joseph Patrick Meissner and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-08-30 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Honor thy father and thy mother.” This is the fourth commandment from the ten God gave us through Moses in the Bible. This fourth follows the initial three signifying our duties to the Supreme Being. After God, our next obligation is to our parents. This shows the importance of parents. Notice the word is “honor.” It does not say “obey”; but “honor” certainly includes “obedience.” Furthermore, this commandment does not end when we each reach maturity. The commandment of honor signifies we must respect our parents all their lives. Our mother was Norah Attracta Cusack. Our father was Joseph Charles Meissner. By the usual social standards, they were very ordinary people on this planet. However, they possessed their own wonderful beauty and intelligence. They were most extraordinary parents who welcomed us to life, took care of our needs, ensured we received great educations, and devoted their lives unselfishly to us for decades. But they gave us much more than our mere bodies. They gave us faith, hope, and love during their long lives. They showed us how to live as God urges us to live. They continuously nourished us spiritually from our mother’s nightly “demands” to kneel in the living room praying the rosary to our Blessed Virgin to our father who drove us even in the blinding snow, freezing cold, and storms to church every week, ensuring we arrived on time. Here are words from my brother Robert for our parents: “As for our son, Scott, [who suffering from severe PTSD, ended his life], I agree he is somewhere around and still present in the universe. So are our mom and dad. I think after we die, we will learn how all this is done—you know Mom and Dad are the greatest proof of God, religion, and an afterlife. They were so good and worked tirelessly for our family. If you asked them about religion, the church, and faith, they might say it really doesn’t matter, except you treat your fellow human beings with dignity and acknowledge God as Father. The rest of the argument really doesn’t mean that much.” So to Mom and Dad, we celebrate your lives and say an enormous thank-you.

Download or read book The Sweet Smell of Home written by Leonard F. Chana and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2022-05-03 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A self-taught artist in several mediums who became known for stippling, Leonard Chana captured the essence of the Tohono O’odham people. He incorporated subtle details of O’odham life into his art, and his images evoke the smells, sounds, textures, and tastes of the Sonoran desert—all the while depicting the values of his people. He began his career by creating cards and soon was lending his art to posters and logos for many community-based Native organizations. Winning recognition from these groups, his work was soon actively sought by them. Chana’s work also appears on the covers and as interior art in a number of books on southwestern and American Indian topics. The Sweet Smell of Home is an autobiographical work, written in Chana’s own voice that unfolds through oral history interviews with anthropologist Susan Lobo. Chana imparts the story of his upbringing and starting down the path toward a career as an artist. Balancing humor with a keen eye for cultural detail, he tells us about life both on and off the reservation. Eighty pieces of art—26 in color—grace the text, and Chana explains both the impetus for and the evolution of each piece. Leonard Chana was a people’s artist who celebrated the extraordinary heroism of common people’s lives. The Sweet Smell of Home now celebrates this unique artist whose words and art illuminate not only his own remarkable life, but also the land and lives of the Tohono O’odham people

Book Try to Remember Never Forget

Download or read book Try to Remember Never Forget written by Sandra Scheller and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2016-09-21 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meet Ruth Goldschmiedova Sax. She is standing next to the dress that my Grandmother wore during the time she was in Oederan. She never took it off and every week she would bend over and the Nazis painted an X and stripe down her backside. The dress was initially given to her in Auschwitz. Ruth Goldschmiedova Saxs life story begins in Moravia in 1928, where she lived comfortably as an only child with her parents. At the age of eleven the Nazis invaded Czechoslovakia and life changed for everyone. By 1941, the family found themselves getting off a transport train in Theresienstadt, where Ruth was forced to grow up quickly. She was shaved to prevent lice infestation, wrapped her feet in paper to keep them warm in the winter, and witnessed the deaths of many. Separated from her father, she survived awful circumstances, only to be sent to Auschwitz in 1944, where she faced Dr. Mengele half a dozen times. Finally, with G-ds help and liberation, she was reunited in 1945 with her mother and father, a miracle within itself. Ruth later emigrated to America where she married Kurt Sax, whom she had met at age seven. This memoir narrates the dramatic life circumstances that led her from her birthplace in central Czechoslovakia, to three concentration camps, and finally to her home in America. Future plans are to find a museum for this dress so that it can be displayed accordingly for all to see and remind us to NEVER FORGET.

Book From Bethlehem to the United States

Download or read book From Bethlehem to the United States written by Adnan A. Musallam, Ph.D. and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The content of the autobiography of Adnan A. Musallam, PhD, transcends his birth and upbringing in a Christian Palestinian Arab family in Bethlehem, the Holy Land, and his traumatic childhood and goes beyond that into another very different culture in America at an early age, where he lived as an exchange student with five Rotary families while attending Wabash High School in Wabash, Indiana, from 1962 to 1963. It was a continuous adjustment as he was moving from one very kind family to another. The high school diploma he got in June 1963 paved the way for his BA (1967), MA (1970), at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana and Ph.D. (1983) at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor Michigan. But the ups and downs of life in Indiana and Michigan led to a divorce and led him to enlist in the United States Navy in January 1975. At the end of active duty in May 1977, he was awarded a United States Navy Achievement Medal; and he was enrolled in the doctoral program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Eventually, he joined the teaching staff at Bethlehem University in the Holy Land beginning in September 1981, and he taught history at the Tour Guide Program at Bethlehem Bible College. Adnan is married to Salwa Sayeh, who both have five daughters and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Appendix A and appendix B revolve around Adnan's stay in Wabash, while appendix C focuses on his membership in the Delta Chi fraternity at Indiana University, and appendix D deals with Adnan's career and thought. It is clear from the content of Adnan's autobiography that his life and thought are closely intertwined with the Palestinian Israeli conflict, 1948-present. 44
