Book Flight Deck Part 1

Download or read book Flight Deck Part 1 written by Edward Atkins and published by Abbott Press. This book was released on 2011-12-22 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part 2 Available here: http://bookstore.abbottpress.com/Products/SKU-000523607/Flight-Deck-Part-2.aspx This absolutely unique book contains 355 superb full-size photographs (Part 1 has 204 and Part 2 has 151) which document life on the flight deck of a fleet WWII aircraft carrier where the Airdale (flight deck crewman) goes in harms way each and every day, such as during aircraft launch operations (among the slashing 13-foot diameter propellers powered by 2,000-hp engines), during aircraft landings (putting out conflagrations from possible aircraft crashes) and during the parking of aircraft (when standing but a few feet from a possible hail of shrapnel). Then one should not omit the devastation of possible Kamikaze (suicide) assaults from above. Each of the 355 photo(s) has a fulsome caption, in the first-person, describing in detail, both subjectively and objectively, the contents of the picture. Many, many of the photos are deserving of being shown in their own frames of wood or displayed on large TV screens (the naval photographer mates who took these pictures are indeed outstanding craftmen). Finally, this book (Parts 1 & 2) is quite literally one of a kind for ALL time (being the first, and the last, one EVER written about this subject (in the 1st person).

Book Human Performance on the Flight Deck

Download or read book Human Performance on the Flight Deck written by Don Harris and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking an integrated, systems approach to dealing exclusively with the human performance issues encountered on the flight deck of the modern airliner, this book describes the inter-relationships between the various application areas of human factors, recognising that the human contribution to the operation of an airliner does not fall into neat pigeonholes. The relationship between areas such as pilot selection, training, flight deck design and safety management is continually emphasised within the book. It also affirms the upside of human factors in aviation - the positive contribution that it can make to the industry - and avoids placing undue emphasis on when the human component fails. The book is divided into four main parts. Part one describes the underpinning science base, with chapters on human information processing, workload, situation awareness, decision making, error and individual differences. Part two of the book looks at the human in the system, containing chapters on pilot selection, simulation and training, stress, fatigue and alcohol, and environmental stressors. Part three takes a closer look at the machine (the aircraft), beginning with an examination of flight deck display design, followed by chapters on aircraft control, flight deck automation, and HCI on the flight deck. Part four completes the volume with a consideration of safety management issues, both on the flight deck and across the airline; the final chapter in this section looks at human factors for incident and accident investigation. The book is written for professionals within the aviation industry, both on the flight deck and elsewhere, for post-graduate students and for researchers working in the area.

Comprising of invited chapters from internationally recognised experts in human factors and flight deck design, contributions span the world of industry, government research establishments and academia. The book brings together the practical experience of professionals across the human factors and flight deck design disciplines to provide a single, all-encompassing volume. Divided into two main parts, part one of the book examines: the benefits of human engineering; flight deck design process; head down display design; head-up display design; auditory warning systems; flight control systems, control inceptors and aircraft handling qualities; flight deck automation; and human-computer interaction on the flight deck and anthropometrics for flight deck design. Part two is concerned with flight deck evaluation - the human factors evaluation of flight decks; human factors in flight test and the regulatory viewpoint Of interest to all human factors professionals operating in high technology, high-risk dynamic industries as well as those engaged directly in aerospace activities, the book will also be of key importance to engineers with an interest in human factors for flight deck design, academics and third year and post-graduate human factors/ergonomics and psychology students.

Book Fearless Leadership Second Edition

Download or read book Fearless Leadership Second Edition written by Carey Lohrenz and published by Greenleaf Book Group. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 Amazon Bestseller in Leadership Wall Street Journal Bestseller An F-14 fighter pilot’s top lessons for leading fearlessly—and bringing a team to peak performance As an aviation pioneer, Carey D. Lohrenz learned what fearless leadership means in some of the most demanding and extreme environments imaginable: the cockpit of an F-14 and the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. Here, her teams had to perform at their peak—or lives were on the line. Faltering leadership was simply unacceptable. Through these experiences, Lohrenz identified a fundamental truth: high-performing teams require fearless leaders. Since leaving the Navy, she’s translated that lesson into a new field, helping top business leaders, from Fortune 500 executives to middle managers, supercharge performance in today’s competitive business environments. In Fearless Leadership, Lohrenz walks you through the three fundamentals of real fearlessness—courage, tenacity, and integrity—and then reveals fearless leadership in action, offering advice on how to set a bold vision, bring the team together (as wingmen, not Top Gun mavericks), execute effectively, and stay resilient through hard times. Whether you’re stepping into your first leadership role or looking to get out of a longstanding rut, Fearless Leadership will act like your afterburner—rocketing you to ever-higher levels of performance.
