The first edition of Geology of British Columbia,, with its accessible but rigorous science, struck a chord with readers. Book British Columbia Waters

Book excerpt: This text is a continuation of the author's previous narratives which included the original source material from the earliest maritime exploration in the Pacific Northwest. The author's first two books traced the visits by the Spanish and George Vancouver to inland Washington waters. These books included transcriptions of the actual journals of our earliest explorers. This follow-up book resumes the saga and follows Vancouver and the Spanish in 1792 through British Columbia waters while they complete their circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. It contains the journals of George Vancouver, Alcala Galiano and Cayetano Valdéz and four of Vancouver's men. These journals provide the first European descriptions and observations of our inland waters as well as the First Nations encountered while they rowed their longboats through previously uncharted territory. Complete with all of their charts, this is a fascinating read directly from the men who made our early history.Richard W. Blumenthal is the author of five historical texts on northwest maritime history. All are available at InlandWatersPublishing.com He lives in Bellevue, Washington.

Book Report on an Exploration in the Yukon District N W T

Download or read book Report on an Exploration in the Yukon District N W T written by George M. Dawson and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-22 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Report on an Exploration in the Yukon District, N. W. T: Adjacent Northern Portion of British Columbia As a result of the late remarkable discoveries of gold in the Klondike region, much general attention has been awakened in the entire Yukon District of Canada, and so great a demand has arisen for the reports and maps of the Yukon Expedition of 1887-88, that the supply of these is now practically exhausted. In order to meet the inquiries for these reports and maps which still continue and appear likely to increase in number, it has been decided to reprint the writer's report of 1887, together with the parts of Mr. R. G. McConnell's report of 1888 that relate to the Yukon district. The present publication thus includes in a convenient form all the information directly obtained by the Geological Survey of Canada, comprising practically all the geological data available for the Yukon district; constituting a basis of fact upon which further investigation may proceed, and one likely to be of use to the prospector and miner by placing him in possession of the main structural features of the country. The "Report on the Yukon District and adjacent Northern Portion of British Columbia," is reprinted without change, but the appendices have been omitted. The titles of these appendices are as follows: - I. Notes on the distribution of trees and of certain shrubs. II. Notes on the Indian tribes. III. List of plants collected. IV. Zoology. V.Notes on the lithological character of some of the rocks collected, VI. Meteorological observations. VII. Summary of astronomical observations. All that part of Mr. McConnell's report which relates to the Liard River below Fort Liard, near the eastern boundary of British Columbia, together with that dealing with the Mackenzie valley proper, are not reproduced; but that relating to the Porcupine and Yukon Rivers is here reprinted. Book Becoming Coastal

Download or read book Becoming Coastal written by Alex Zimmerman and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this collection of narratives Victoria technologist, environmentalist and writer Alex Zimmerman tells stories not only of self-propelled travel and adventure but also of nature, the magnificent environment and of interesting people that he meets on the coast of British Columbia. Zimmerman is not the first to paddle and write about the BC Coast, but he brings a fresh and personal perspective as he details how he learns the necessary physical and mental skills of solo travelling. His encounters with the non-human inhabitants of the coast, the whales, wolves, bears and a super-pod of dolphins, are brought to life with a thrilling immediacy. Zimmerman's writing evokes vivid visual imagery and he conveys to the reader a strong sense of being there. You will share with him the wonder, joy, fear and awe he experienced as he discovered the coast's geography, its ecology, its people and his own growing capabilities in the process of becoming coastal.
