Download or read book The Universal Declaration of Human Rights written by Humberto Cantu Rivera and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-12-18 with total page 837 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on 10 December 1948 by the United Nations General Assembly marked a groundbreaking moment in the field of international law. Not only would it start to move away from its original conception as an exclusively State-centered domain: it would also mark the progressive transformation of international law into a law for humankind. This instrument started a codification and institution-building process that would slowly evolve into a complex framework of treaties, bodies and procedures revolving around the protection of the human being against the actions – or omissions – of the State. This commentary provides a specific analysis and reflection of how each one of the rights enshrined therein have evolved over time.
Download or read book International Labour Rights and the Social Clause written by Arne Daniel Albert Vandaele and published by Cameron May. This book was released on 2005 with total page 959 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Takes as its starting point the observation that a social clause should be concerned with achieving international labour rights. Analyses the conception of international labour rights involving not only law but also other disciplines such as history, morality and economics. Shows that the discussion on the social clause is emblematic of the way the WTO and the international trade system should deal with human rights in general. It requires an approach grounded in international law in the broadest sense, covering general international law, international human rights law, international trade law, international labour law and legal theory.

Download or read book Global Law A Triple Challenge written by Mireille Delmas-Marty and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-09-13 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author addresses the question of whether globalization of law is possible in a world full of tensions due to an increase in economic inequality and the rise of national and regional differences. She discusses whether it is reasonable or imaginable to have an organized set of norms when the helter-skelter proliferation of norms and the displacement of landmarks create instead the impression of normative disorder. She then explores whether the globalization of law is ethically desirable, when none of our international institutions are currently able to guarantee respect for democratic values. Originally published in French under the title Trois Defis Pour Un Droit Mondial. Published under the Transnational Publishers imprint.

Download or read book The Human Right to Water Justice or Sham written by Evelyne Fiechter-Widemann and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-05-05 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water is a matter of life and death. Advanced technology and engineering enable humans to gain better access to it. Nonetheless, the conditions and effort required to reach this goal remain colossal in many countries. Building a lasting infrastructure for adequate treatment before and after use is costly. Therefore, the author believes that a radical change of thinking among people around the world, from the domestic to the large-scale users, becomes a priority. Even if the United Nations entitles all people to justice for water, more responsible and ethical use of it by all interested parties is more important than the spreading of promises, which, in practice, may turn out to be a sham. Only a better understanding that access to water rests on the efforts of everyone, without exception, will reduce overuse, waste, and pollution of the indispensable resource. This volume, while written from a theological, philosophical, and legal perspective (focusing on John Calvin, John Rawls, and Paul Ricoeur), demonstrates that water cannot be merely understood as a human right, but also has to be dealt with from an economic point of view as well as under the authority of the Golden Rule.

Download or read book Conflits des interpr tations dans la soci t de l information thique et politique de l environnement Trait des sciences et techniques de l information written by CHARDEL Pierre-Antoine and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
