Book Routledge Handbook of Environmental Journalism

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Environmental Journalism written by David B. Sachsman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-05-14 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of Environmental Journalism provides a thorough understanding of environmental journalism around the world. An increasing number of media platforms – from newspapers and television to Internet social media networks – are the major providers of indispensable information about the natural world and environmental risk. Despite the dramatic changes in the news industry that have tended to reduce the number of full-time newspaper reporters, environmental journalists remain key to bringing stories to light across the globe. With contributions from around the world broken down into five key regions – the United States of America, Europe and Russia, Asia and Australia, Africa and the Middle East, and South America – this book provides support for today’s environment reporters, the providers of essential news in the 21st century. As a scholarly and journalistic work written by academics and the environmental reporters themselves, this volume is an essential text for students and scholars of environmental communication, journalism, and global environmental issues more generally, as well as professionals working in this vital area.

Book excerpt: Drawing on an unusually rich empirical base, this timely and compelling book examines how environmental values are constructed and legitimized within the policy process. It trains the spotlight on four environmentally significant countries - China, Japan, India, and the United States - representing a wide diversity of cultural, social, economic, and political characteristics. Through a combination of case studies and comparative analysis, the contributors illuminate cultural assumptions, standards, and analytic techniques that shape environmental actions and policies around the world. Book Mitigation of Nighttime Construction Noise Vibrations and Other Nuisances

Download or read book Mitigation of Nighttime Construction Noise Vibrations and Other Nuisances written by Cliff J. Schexnayder and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1999 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report describes current practice in mitigating nighttime construction nuisances such as noise, vibration, light, and dust. Roadway construction work is increasingly done at night to mediate traffic congestion; however, this trend also increases the potential for disturbing adjacent property owners. This report will be of interest to department of transportation (DOT) construction, design, and project engineers, and to those responsible for community relations. This report of the Transportation Research Board stresses the importance of informing project neighbors and establishing cooperative relations with the community as a first measure of successful mitigation. Examples show how project design can address construction nuisances by locating and sequencing construction operations to minimize their impact. Current practices used in source control, path control, and receptor control are described and documented in examples from the Boston Central Artery/Tunnel project and projects in Arizona and Salt Lake City, Utah. Appended materials provide sample specifications for mitigation of noise and dust control.
