Book excerpt: Excerpt from English Church Reform, 1815-1840 The reform movement which triumphed in 1832 envisaged the ecclesiastical as well as the civil constitution; and we cannot appreciate the position of the Church at this crisis without some knowledge of the attitude it had assumed towards the social and political problems which had been ripening for solution since the close of the Napoleonic War. But this attitude was determined to some extent by the principles of religious parties and, as these parties must be constantly referred to, it will be well at the outset to review their origin and character. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sympathies of the Continent: Proposals for a New Reformation An American Churchman must be forgiven for saying, that he is unable to look at matters which affect the Church of England as indif ferent to himself, and to the national Church of which he is a member. The family of Christ is one: nor can any national Church, with fidelity to its great Head, allow its local relations to impair those which are catholic. Between the mother Church and her American daughter, the fullest communion happily exists, and all that interests the one is im portant to the other. The writer cannot feel it necessary, therefore, to offer any apology for taking part in matters of common con cern, and for shewing, in a practical way, the deep sympathy which he has felt for years, in the earnest and sublime movement which has been going on in England, and, in spite of all discouragements, steadily advancing to wards the restoration of the maternal Church of the people to her ancient liberty, with a new development of her immense resources and mighty powers for the benefit of manw. Download or read book A Treatise of Reformation Without Tarying for Anie Classic Reprint written by Robert Browne and published by . This book was released on 2017-07-15 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise of Reformation Without Tarying for AnieHE tract now first presented to the public in an English edition is that most popularly associated with the name of Robert Browne. It does not, as is commonly supposed, enunciate the theory of Congregational Independency but J it affirms a higher and more comprehensive principle, that of the mutual independence of Church and State. The original edition, printed in Holland m 1582, is extremely rare; only three Copies being known. A few years ago it was published in a cheap form in America. From an original at Yale College; and the present edition is from the American reprint, carefully collated with an original in the British Museum. It seems desirable to prefix a short biographical notice of the author who, besides being loaded with obloquy by opponents, has had the strange fortune of being repudiated by many of his most consistent disciples.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
