Book The Multiple Self States Drawing Technique

Download or read book The Multiple Self States Drawing Technique written by Susan Parente and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-28 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the Multiple Self-States Drawing Technique (MSSDT), a creative, transdiagnostic, clinical assessment tool and treatment intervention for child and adolescent clients. The MSSDT provides clinicians and patients with a novel opportunity to bridge the gap in youngsters’ selves-awareness of discrete emotional states. Dr. Parente teaches clinicians how to guide clients through this contemporaneous version of projective figure drawing in order to discover and explore trauma-based, dissociative, and emotionally dysregulated self-states and to focus on adaptive, resilient states of well-being. Specific, step-by-step instructions are provided, and case illustrations demonstrating the proposed clinical advantages of the method are presented. Chapters show how this experiential, psycho-educational, arts-based activity can be flexibly applied to a broad range of ages and clinical populations and how using the MSSDT may support mental health professionals’ clinical work. Through this manual, clinicians will learn how to help clients foster a beneficial relational encounter, promote therapeutic self-expression, and develop an enhanced self and other awareness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PERSONHOOD AND HEALTH CARE This book arose as a result of a pre-conference devoted to the topic held June 28, 1999 in Paris, France. The pre-conference preceded the Annual Congress of the International Academy ofLaw and Mental Health. Other chapters were solicited after the conference in order to more completely explore the relation of personhood to health care. The pre conference was held in honor of Yves Pelicier who led so many of our French colleagues in medicine, philosophy, and ethics as Christian Herve notes in his Tribute. As health care is aimed at healing persons, it is important to realize how difficult it is to construct a theory of personhood for health care, and thus, a theory of how healing in health care comes about or ought to occur. The book is divided into four parts, Concepts of the Person, Theories of Personhood in Relation to Health Care and Bioethics, Person and Identity, and Personhood and Hs Relations. Each section explores a critical arena in constructing the relation of personhood to health care. Although no exploration ofthis nature can be exhaustive, every effort was made to present both conflicting and complementary views of personhood from within similar and different philosophical and religious traditions. PART ONE: CONCEPTS OF THE PERSON Tracing the origins of the concept of person from antiquity through present day, Jean Delemeau provides an historical sketch of the development of a wide range of meanings.

Book Beyond Realism

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert Singer
  • Publisher : Edinburgh University Press
  • Release : 2024-04-30
  • ISBN : 1474426352
  • Pages : 282 pages

Download or read book Beyond Realism written by Robert Singer and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2024-04-30 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond Realism: Naturalist Film in Theory and Practice is the first major critical study of international naturalist cinema. Often mistaken for realist film, international naturalist cinema has a unique cultural and critical history. From its earliest representation in silent films such as Walsh's Regeneration (1915), and Eisenstein's Stachka/Strike (1925), to recent productions such as Chukwu's Clemency (2019), and Aronofsky's The Whale (2022), the naturalist film narrative encompasses the whole of film history, traversing language, movement, and genre. The naturalist film is predicated on two foundational, intersecting paradigms that configure as one ideological system in an overarching scientific and social experimental narrative. Either the scientific or social paradigm may be dominant in the film narrative or they may simply co-exist, but a naturalist film reveals both templates and, most significantly, suggests an implicit cinematic anthropology that renders the body as an observed spectacle.

Book A Critical Anthropology of Childhood in Haiti

Download or read book A Critical Anthropology of Childhood in Haiti written by Diane M. Hoffman and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-01-11 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a critical anthropological perspective on contemporary childhood in Haiti. It is based on longitudinal ethnographic fieldwork carried out over a period of 13 years with vulnerable children in Haiti. Diane M. Hoffman raises important questions about how interventions by well-meaning foreigners and 'white saviors' often misrepresent Haitian culture and society as deficient, while privileging their own emotions alongside supposedly universal ideas about children that reinforce their own power to define and intervene in Haitian lives. She argues for a new approach to Haitian childhood that centers children's informal learning and self-education alongside indigenous spirituality and constructions of personhood that can resist the hegemony of neo-colonial and neo-liberal forces. Instead of representing the country and its children as a place of "problems to be solved," the book shows the importance prioritizing aspects of Haitian world-views in order to develop a more culturally-informed understanding of childhood in Haiti that can support genuine social change.

Book excerpt: Invisible Woman I to I: Invisibility to Invincibility A woman is not an object of study but a subject of realization. Invisible Woman is the heartbeat of Jay's Legacy, a Not For Profit Organization I have established in my late wife's honor. This book is about the Power of Woman. A woman, who is in possession of unique strengths and subtleties such as instinct, intuition, imagination, etc, should never be in a position to lose her sense of pride and value. Unfortunately, due to inner forces, including her capacity to place her loved ones before herself, as well as external societal forces and collective psychology, many times a woman is affronted with doubts regarding her purposefulness and contexuality in relation to her family. Based upon thousands of interactions with female patients, I have analyzed eight basic categories, based upon personality traits, which lend themselves to feelings of invisibility in women: The Merger - The Pleaser - The Defeated - The Doubter - The Masochist - The Martyr -The Exasperated - and The Lost. Each category contains pointed illustrations from patients who exemplified those behavioral characteristics. I take the reader through each of these categories and show how to recognize them, and more importantly, tackle the more pertinent question of what a woman should do if she suffers from the fear or feeling of being invisible. My intention is to help a woman to increase her sense of awareness and self realization, thus ultimately positioning herself as a vital force: a source of energy to mankind. This book also attempts to inspire men to recognize and appreciate the innate qualities of a woman, and in doing so, attain an emotional, intellectual and spiritual communion with a woman. Jagdish D. Kulkarni, M.D. Physician, Psychiatrist, Businessman, Singer and Husband
