A stratified sampling method will be used to determine the population sample guided by Naasiuma Model to come the sample size. Secondary data will be collected based on the financial statements as well as data from KAM website. Collected data will be prepared and then analyzed by use of STATA software. Diagnostic tests will carried out to ensure that the classical linear modeling assumptions are not violated. Collected data will then be subjected to various analytical tools like Mean, Standard deviation, Correlation and Regression analysis so as to achieve the objective of the study. Finally the analyzed information will be presented in tables, charts and figures to aid in recommendation and future decision making. Cash flow shortfall has proved to be one of the issues facing manufacturing companies in Nairobi. Companies with cash flow problems have witnessed a lot of struggle when it comes to settling their credit commitments whenever they fall due. In some cases, the effect has resulted into extreme losses, low profits, business operation difficulty and high financial costs due to excessive borrowing. The general objective of this study is to determine the effect of cash flow management activities on the financial performance of manufacturing companies in Nairobi. To achieve this objective this study will examine how the three main components of cash flow statement component impact on the financial performance of companies under the scope. Cash flow activities according to Kew et al are cash flow from operating activities, cash flow from investing activities and cash flow from financing activities. To measure the financial performance of manufacturing companies, the study will apply two key financial ratios which include Return on Equity (ROE) and Return on Assets (ROA). Independent variables will be measured using net values of each activity as reported in the cash flow statement. The study will adopt a descriptive research design.

Book Cash Flow Accounting and the Cost of Debt

Download or read book Cash Flow Accounting and the Cost of Debt written by Mahmoud Lari Dashtbayaz and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this study is to examine why firms may manipulate not just their earnings but also their cash flows, and to investigate the effects of this behaviour in debt markets with respect to the cost of debt. This research addresses current concerns about accounting rules (both GAAP and IFRS) which allow companies discretion in the presentation of their operating cash flow in financial statements. Using a sample of 8,684 UK and 23,935 USA firm-years from 1998 to 2010, the reported operating cash flow is decomposed into two components, unmanaged and managed, in order to examine the association between the estimated discretionary part of operating cash flow and the cost of debt. The results show that the cost of debt has a significantly positive association with the managed component of operating cash flows. By using path analysis, it is further shown that the effect of cash flow management in increasing the cost of debt is largely through its impact on accounting quality. Also it is found that the market positively prices abnormal operating cash flow information when firms experience financial problems, especially when companies are faced with low cash flows.

Book Growth Or Glamour

Download or read book Growth Or Glamour written by John Y. Campbell and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cash flows of growth stocks are particularly sensitive to temporary movements in aggregate stock prices (driven by movements in the equity risk premium), while the cash flows of value stocks are particularly sensitive to permanent movements in aggregate stock prices (driven by market-wide shocks to cash flows.) Thus the high betas of growth stocks with the market's discount-rate shocks, and of value stocks with the market's cash-flow shocks, are determined by the cash-flow fundamentals of growth and value companies. Growth stocks are not merely "glamour stocks" whose systematic risks are purely driven by investor sentiment. More generally, accounting measures of firm-level risk have predictive power for firms' betas with market-wide cash flows, and this predictive power arises from the behavior of firms' cash flows. The systematic risks of stocks with similar accounting characteristics are primarily driven by the systematic risks of their fundamentals.

Book Financial Management Practices

Download or read book Financial Management Practices written by P.K. Jain and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-26 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Financial management practices are likely to have a marked effect on the financial performance of a corporate enterprise. Therefore, sound financial decisions/practices can contribute towards meeting the desired objective of having profitable operations. This subject assumes paramount significance in view of the present dynamic and turbulent business environment, which has produced more intense competition and smaller profit margins across the world. In this context, the financial management practices of the corporates in India, a country with a vast potential for economic growth, can offer valuable insights. The present study explores whether there has been a major change in the financial performance (measured in terms of profitability) and financial policies/decisions of the sample companies over a fixed period (2000-2001 to 2010-2011), with a special focus on pre and post-recession analysis. It delves deeper into current research areas such as zero working capital, real options in capital budgeting, pecking order in capital structures, and clause 49 as reflected in the financial management decisions of sample companies, and provides a broader perspective by identifying trends (if any) in certain aspects of financial decision-making over the past two decades. A comprehensive study, covering all the major aspects of financial management practices, also contains an inter-sectoral study (among the sample companies) and develops an index of professionalism in financial management based on the practices of the sample companies. The book is primarily targeted at teachers/students of finance, management, commerce, accounting and related professional disciplines/fields. Practitioners/professionals will find it an invaluable text that helps guide them to better decision-making.

They show how Europe has moved from follower status to leading edge practice. The book is the best current indicator of what the next stages of CSR will look like.' - Thomas W. Dunfee, University of Pennsylvania, US The rapidly increasing attention devoted to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has resulted in the term 'CSR' being applied to myriad dissimilar phenomena. They provide a conceptualization of CSR that emphasizes the role of the adoption and implementation of specific CSR strategies and their impact on corporate social and economic performance.
