Book German Children s and Youth Literature in Exile 1933 1950

Download or read book German Children s and Youth Literature in Exile 1933 1950 written by Zlata Fuss Phillips and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-11-02 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume deals with authors in exile - those writers who were forced to leave their home country after the National Socialists seized power in 1933. Although many of the authors have continued to receive recognition in their particular fields, whether film or adult literature, one group of artists has been overlooked - the authors and illustrators of children's literature. Now for the first time German Children's and Youth Literature in Exile, 1933-1050, has recorded and made accessible a wealth of information on these German-speaking authors and illustrators who emigrated to many different countries and regions of the world. German Children's and Youth Literature in Exile, 1933-1950, contains biographies of 101 authors and illustrators of children and youth literature as well as bibliographies of the books written and illustrated by them that were published in exile between 1933 and 1950. Included are authors who were born before 1918 in Germany or in areas of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire and who lived or worked in Germany or Austria until 1933. Many of them were forced to emigrate because their lives were endangered. Some of them left before the repressive measures of the National Socialists were implemented, in order to maintain their intellectual and artistic freedom. The exile countries they chose were the United States, Great Britain, Switzerland, the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, France, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Finland, Poland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Mexico, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Australia, Canada, China and Palestine/Israel. Among the authors listed in this volume are Kurt Held (Die rote Zora und ihre Bande 1941), Irmgard Keun (Nac.

Book Children in the Holocaust children in exile children under fascism

Download or read book Children in the Holocaust children in exile children under fascism written by Viktoria Hertling and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 1998 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: For a thousand years, the Sabbat Worlds have been lost to the Imperium, claimed by the dread powers of Chaos. Now, a mighty crusade seeks to return the sector to Imperial rule. And at the forefront of that crusade are Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt and the Tanith First and Only - better known as Gaunt's Ghosts. On the world of Verghast, a grinding war between two hive cities - one loyal to the Imperium, the other fallen to the worship of the Dark Gods - is bolstered by the forces of the Imperial Guard. But bitter rivalries and treachery threaten to derail the defence of Vervunhive, and it falls to Gaunt to take command of the Imperial forces and forge victory from an almost certain defeat. This edition includes the epilogue short story 'In Remembrance', in which Gaunt's Ghosts are accompanied into battle by an artist commissioned to create a sculpture in commemoration of a great victory by the Tanith First.

Fair warning: they're not all going to get out alive. Men of Tanith… do you want to live forever?’ On the forge world of Urdesh, the massed forces of the Imperial Crusade engage in a final bloody battle with the Archenemy commander known as the Anarch, and his elite warriors - the barbaric Sons of Sek. A victory for either side will decide more than just the fate of Urdesh… it will determine the outcome of the entire Sabbat Worlds Crusade. Ibram Gaunt – now serving at the right hand of Warmaster Macaroth – finds himself at the very heart of the struggle. His regiment, the Tanith First “Ghosts”, holds the vital key to ultimate success. But as the forces of the Imperium and Chaos square up for the final, large-scale confrontation, Gaunt discovers that the greatest threat of all may come from inside rather than out.

On the capital world of Potence, young enforcer cadet Rudgard Howe is caught up in a bitter internecine feud to inherit his father’s position of Chief Enforcer. As the tithe fleets approach, he is sent on his first mission to ensure that the planet’s distant agri-facilities fulfil their quotas to the God-Emperor. Farmed with serfs and managed by ex-Militarum soldiers, the agri-facilities are places of shocking brutality and hopelessness. But when he is sent to the outlying farmstead of Thorsarbour, Rudgard discovers a community where the crops are left to rot as the inhabitants indulge in the bloody ecstasy of a sanguinary cult. As Rudgard imposes the strict Lex Imperialis upon the farmstead, he begins to uncover a place where sanity is rapidly slipping. But he is just one step along this nightmarish mission when a series of cruel deaths threatens to dismantle everything he has ever known about the Imperium, his faith in the Emperor, and the strength of his very soul.
