Book Development of Improved Separators for Alkaline Zinc Batteries

Download or read book Development of Improved Separators for Alkaline Zinc Batteries written by W. A. Parkhurst and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a summary of the development of separator materials for rechargeable alkaline zinc batteries over a seven year period. It summarizes studies performed during the earlier years of polyphenylquinoxaline (PPQ) polymer blends as separator materials. The expense of large scale production and the marginal improvement demonstrated for PPQ blends over existing cellulose based separator materials led to redirection of the work. The current limited effort in the development of nickel coated separator materials is described. Because of a lack of funding, the characterization of nickel coated separator materials was not completed. Further characterization, testing and evaluation of the feasibility of such electrically conductive separator film materials is recommended.

Book Development of an Improved Separator Material for Alkaline Silver Zinc Batteries

Download or read book Development of an Improved Separator Material for Alkaline Silver Zinc Batteries written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work was a preliminary investigation to determine if polyphenylquinoxaline (PPQ) or a codispersed mixture of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) with PPQ could be used to replace cellophane as a separator in the zinc- silver oxide battery. The primary purpose was to compare its dimensional and chemical stability with cellophane and to determine if methods could be developed to lower its high inherent electrical resistance. Dimensional measurements were made in 45% KOH at 298 K (25 C) and 353 K (80 C). Chemical stability to oxidation was observed in KOH solution saturated with silver oxide at 353 K. In an effort to lower the resistance of these thin film membranes, various methods were studied to develop porosity. Included among these were extraction of the PVP in boiling water, pyrolysis of the PVP, swelling of the films with phenol, and precipitation of the PPQ from acetone. Increasing the molecular weight of the PVP appears very promising and additional studies are recommended since these polymers have good potential use as separators.

Book Advanced Materials for Battery Separators

Download or read book Advanced Materials for Battery Separators written by Sabu Thomas and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-06-20 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Materials for Battery Separators focuses solely on battery separators and their significance, providing the reader with a detailed description of their use in both aqueous and non-aqueous batteries. Topics include separator requirements and classifications, as well as discussions of the different methods for the fabrication of separators, experimental techniques used for the characterization of separators, and their physical and chemical properties. It concludes with a look at the challenges and new technologies developed to improve the performance of separators. This book is a valuable reference for engineers, research scholars, and for graduates and post graduates primarily in the field of material science, electrochemistry, and polymer chemistry. It can also be useful for engineers and technologists working in both industry and the energy field. - Provides a detailed discussion of separators used in battery applications - Discusses the influence of nanofillers on separator performance and the analytical techniques used for the characterization of separators - Explores the challenges and new technologies to improve the performance of separators

Book Development of Zinc Electrodes and Inorganic Separators for Large Size Silver Zinc Batteries

Download or read book Development of Zinc Electrodes and Inorganic Separators for Large Size Silver Zinc Batteries written by Allen Charkey and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the nineteen month period of this contract both 40Ahr and 850Ahr (NR-1) size silver-zinc cells were designed, fabricated and tested to evaluate improved zinc electrode structures and inorganic separators developed by ERC. The 40Ahr cell groups have completed cycling and have achieved 150-300 cycles depending on the cell construction. The NR-1 batteries have completed 150-300 days of testing on both float and deep discharge regimes with the testing continuing. Three NR-1 and three DSRV (525Ahr) cells have been fabricated with the most promising design and have been delivered to NAD-Crane for life test evaluation. The most promising design from data obtained in both 40Ahr and 850Ahr cells appears to be a combination of FSC and ERC 2002 inorganic separator with KT separator on the negative electrode. The various negative plate additives investigated did improve performance in cells with FSC separators but did not show an additional improvement when tested in cells with inorganic and FSC separators in combination.

Book Zinc Batteries

Download or read book Zinc Batteries written by Rajender Boddula and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Battery technology is constantly changing, and the concepts and applications of these changes are rapidly becoming increasingly more important as more and more industries and individuals continue to make “greener” choices in their energy sources. As global dependence on fossil fuels slowly wanes, there is a heavier and heavier importance placed on cleaner power sources and methods for storing and transporting that power. Battery technology is a huge part of this global energy revolution. Zinc batteries are an advantageous choice over lithium-based batteries, which have dominated the market for years in multiple areas, most specifically in electric vehicles and other battery-powered devices. Zinc is the fourth most abundant metal in the world, which is influential in its lower cost, making it a very attractive material for use in batteries. Zinc-based batteries have been around since the 1930s, but only now are they taking center stage in the energy, automotive, and other industries. Zinc Batteries: Basics, Developments, and Applicationsis intended as a discussion of the different zinc batteries for energy storage applications. It also provides an in-depth description of various energy storage materials for Zinc (Zn) batteries. This book is an invaluable reference guide for electrochemists, chemical engineers, students, faculty, and R&D professionals in energy storage science, material science, and renewable energy.
