Book Strategy to Develop a Culture of Biblical Spirituality Among South New South Wales Conference Pastors

Download or read book Strategy to Develop a Culture of Biblical Spirituality Among South New South Wales Conference Pastors written by Kendell Cobbin and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Problem. The majority of the pastors in the South New South Wales Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church work in isolated rural settings. In the past, there has been minimal connection between these pastors, with little sharing of plans, ideas, deeper concerns, or spiritual accountability. This has been compounded by their demanding roles and responsibilities. Such realities have the potential to deplete the spiritual health of individuals. -- Method. This project developed, implemented, and evaluated a strategy over a 12 month period that fostered an enhanced intentional journey with God among 18 South New South Wales Conference pastors. The main focus was to nurture relationship-focused small groups where trust was developed and spiritual disciplines were encouraged. At the end of the period a questionnaire provided the key source of evaluation data. -- Results. There was an 89% response rate of pastors responding to the questionnaire. Between 75-80% of the participants were positively impacted by the process undertaken in this project. Some 25% of ministers have developed a similar pattern to the cluster group within their own local churches. -- Conclusion. Results indicated significant gains to the culture of ministry in the South New South Wales Conference. The intentional sharing of personal narratives helped to develop trust and community, and served to reduce the sense of isolation among the pastors. Through the process defined for the cluster groups, pastors' personal spirituality was enhanced.

Book Servant Leadership

Download or read book Servant Leadership written by Efrain Agosto and published by Chalice Press. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Servant Leadership addresses a fundamental concern of the contemporary church by asking pertinent questions of the New Testament: Who became a leader in the Jesus movement and in Pauline Christianity? What was the social status of these leaders in the outside world as compared to the importance of such social status within the faith community? What practices characterized their leadership within the communities they served? The book explores models of leadership in the New Testament s two prime exemplars, Jesus and Paul, and in their respective communities of faith. It studies both Paul s statements and actions with regard to leadership issues with specific church communities, using Thessalonians, the Corinthians, the Galatians, and the Philippians correspondence as case studies in the practice of leadership. It concludes with a discussion of leadership challenges in the modern church and how a Pauline or Deutero-Pauline model can work for us today. The author shows how understanding one s followers, as well as the goals and purposes of the group one leads, is a fundamental function of leadership today, even in the corporate world. Similarly, although we expect Christian leadership to be confrontational and assertive at times, it must also be open to creating opportunities for others to exercise their gifts and, therefore, their leadership. Good leaders move others to respond to their own personal calls and commitments.

Book excerpt: This book was born out of a passion for mentoring disciples for Christ. The author has experienced effective mentoring as a follower of Christ. The necessity of mentors is imperative in the lives of children, youth, young adults, and of all ages. The author desires to see positive, encouraging, and Spirit-led mentoring to take place in churches. This book informs the reader regarding biblical, historical, theological, and practical mentoring. It examines the similarities and differences between mentoring and discipleship. It helps leaders understand the ingredients of effective mentoring by looking at Scripture, the role of the Holy Spirit, and applications of mentoring. This book also helps answer the question of how to make a powerful difference in the lives of individuals by the method of missional mentoring. This book will encourage today's servants of the Lord not only to be the hands and feet of Jesus, but to mentor others to become missional. Missional mentoring under the leading and design of the Holy Spirit will transform lives, churches, and communities for the glory of God. ""Dr. Marton's book shows how mentor relationships can bring renewal to the church. He situates practical approaches for ministry today within biblical, historical, and theological traditions in the church. The yield is a helpful resource for leaders serving in a variety of ministry settings."" --Joni Sancken, Assistant Professor of Homiletics, United Theological Seminary, Dayton OH ""Edward Marton has made a compelling link between personal mentoring and the advancement of the mission of Jesus Christ today. In its practical, insightful, and application-oriented content, Missional Mentoring makes a valuable contribution to those in the Christian community who desire to participate in the mission of Christ. --Raj Attiken, former President, Ohio Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists Edward R.
