Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building structures are unique in the field of engineering, as they pose challenges in the development and conceptualization of their design. As more innovative structural forms are envisioned, detailed analyses using computer tools are inevitable. This book enables readers to gain an overall understanding of computer-aided analysis of various types of structural forms using advanced tools such as MATLAB®. Detailed descriptions of the fundamentals are explained in a "classroom" style, which will make the content more user-friendly and easier to understand. Basic concepts are emphasized through simple illustrative examples and exercises, and analysis methodologies and guidelines are explained through numerous example problems.

Book Introduction to Structural Analysis

Download or read book Introduction to Structural Analysis written by S. T. Mau and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-04-26 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the gap between what is traditionally taught in textbooks and what is actually practiced in engineering firms, Introduction to Structural Analysis: Displacement and Force Methods clearly explains the two fundamental methods of structural analysis: the displacement method and the force method. It also shows how these methods are applied, particularly to trusses, beams, and rigid frames. Acknowledging the fact that virtually all computer structural analysis programs are based on the matrix displacement method of analysis, the text begins with the displacement method. A matrix operations tutorial is also included for review and self-learning. To minimize any conceptual difficulty readers may have, the displacement method is introduced with the plane truss analysis and the concept of nodal displacement. The book then presents the force method of analysis for plane trusses to illustrate force equilibrium, deflection, statistical indeterminacy, and other concepts that help readers to better understand the behavior of a structure. It also extends the force method to beam and rigid frame analysis. Toward the end of the book, the displacement method reappears along with the moment distribution and slope-deflection methods in the context of beam and rigid frame analysis. Other topics covered include influence lines, non-prismatic members, composite structures, secondary stress analysis, and limits of linear and static structural analysis. Integrating classical and modern methodologies, this book explains complicated analysis using simplified methods and numerous examples. It provides readers with an understanding of the underlying methodologies of finite element analysis and the practices used by professional structural engineers.

This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 2223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Insights and Innovations in Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Computation comprises 360 papers that were presented at the Sixth International Conference on Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Computation (SEMC 2016, Cape Town, South Africa, 5-7 September 2016). The papers reflect the broad scope of the SEMC conferences, and cover a wide range of engineering structures (buildings, bridges, towers, roofs, foundations, offshore structures, tunnels, dams, vessels, vehicles and machinery) and engineering materials (steel, aluminium, concrete, masonry, timber, glass, polymers, composites, laminates, smart materials).

Book Nonlinear Analysis of Structures

Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis of Structures written by Muthukrishnan Sathyamoorthy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-10-28 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Analysis of Structures presents a complete evaluation of the nonlinear static and dynamic behavior of beams, rods, plates, trusses, frames, mechanisms, stiffened structures, sandwich plates, and shells. These elements are important components in a wide variety of structures and vehicles such as spacecraft and missiles, underwater vessels and structures, and modern housing. Today's engineers and designers must understand these elements and their behavior when they are subjected to various types of loads. Coverage includes the various types of nonlinearities, stress-strain relations and the development of nonlinear governing equations derived from nonlinear elastic theory. This complete guide includes both mathematical treatment and real-world applications, with a wealth of problems and examples to support the text. Special topics include a useful and informative chapter on nonlinear analysis of composite structures, and another on recent developments in symbolic computation. Designed for both self-study and classroom instruction, Nonlinear Analysis of Structures is also an authoritative reference for practicing engineers and scientists. One of the world's leaders in the study of nonlinear structural analysis, Professor Sathyamoorthy has made significant research contributions to the field of nonlinear mechanics for twenty-seven years. His foremost contribution to date has been the development of a unique transverse shear deformation theory for plates undergoing large amplitude vibrations and the examination of multiple mode solutions for plates. In addition to his notable research, Professor Sathyamoorthy has also developed and taught courses in the field at universities in India, Canada, and the United States.

Book Earthquake Resistant Engineering Structures VI

Download or read book Earthquake Resistant Engineering Structures VI written by C. A. Brebbia and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of protecting the built environment in earthquake-prone regions of the world involves not only the optimal design and construction of new facilities, but also the upgrading and rehabilitation of existing structures and infrastructures. The latter is a laborious and expensive task, which can be accomplished only gradually. However, the inestimable loss of life and the colossal costs following a major earthquake in a metropolitan area provide sufficient reason to make it an important challenge for the scientific and technical community.Containing papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Earthquake Resistance and Engineering Structures, this book will be invaluable to engineers, scientists and managers working in industry, academia, research organizations and governments. The book encompasses a wide range of topics such as: Site Effects and Geotechnical aspects; Earthquake resistant design; Seismic Behaviour and Vulnerability; Structural Dynamics; Monitoring and Testing; Bridges; Heritage Buildings; Masonry Construction; Retrofitting; Passive Protection Devices and Seismic Isolation; Lifelines; Design Codes and Response Spectre.
