Experts from both industry and academia have contributed to this work giving both a theoretical practical approach. It covers dry and wet powders, single and two-phase liquids, solid/liquid and gas/liquid systems. The range of mixers available for such diverse duties is dealt with, including tumbler mixers for powders, mechanically agitated vessels, in-line continuous mixers and jet mixers. Coverage is given of the range of mixing objectives, varying from achieving product uniformity to obtaining optimum conditions for mass transfer and chemical reactions. Book Factors that Enhance Jet Mixing

Download or read book Factors that Enhance Jet Mixing written by Andrew Fejér and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The main objective of the experimental study was the enhancement of mixing of jets. Three different techniques of mixing were studied: a) turbulence production at the jet interface, including the case where the jet or primary stream and secondary stream velocities are equal, b) addition of a swirl component to the jet, c) an increase in jet density. All experiments were conducted in a coflowing and ducted secondary air stream at atmospheric conditions."--P. III.

Book Momentum Exchange in Coaxial Jet Flows

Download or read book Momentum Exchange in Coaxial Jet Flows written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coaxial jet flows have a considerable practical application area as water jet pumps. Efficiency of such systems is affected by complex turbulence mechanisms and large-scale vortex structures formed in the mixing regions. An experimental setup is constructed to estimate the momentum exchange rates and mixing of the two jet flows from the coaxial pipes. Pressure distributions along the mixing pipe wall are measured for different flow ratios of the jets. In addition to present experiments, numerical data of two experimental studies from the literature are considered as test cases. Numerical solutions for the test cases are obtained using FLUENT. Experimental and numerical results are compared and adequacy of FLUENT solution is illustrated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The homogenization of single phase gases or liquids with chemical reactive components by mixing belongs to one of the oldest basic operations applied in chemical engineering. The mixing process is used as an essential step in nearly all processes of the chemical industry as well as the pharmaceutical and food ind- tries. Recent experimentally and theoretically based results from research work lead to a fairly good prediction of the velocity fields in differend kinds of mixers, where as predictions of simultaneously proceeding homogeneous chemical re- tions, are still not reliable in a similar way. Therefore the design of equipment for mixing processes is still derived from measurements of the so called “mixing time” which is related to the applied methods of measurement and the special - sign of the test equipment itself. The cooperation of 17 research groups was stimulated by improved modern methods for experimental research and visualization, for simulations and nume- cal calculations of mixing and chemical reactions in micro and macro scale of time and local coordinates. The research work was financed for a six years period within the recently finished Priority Program of the German Research Foundation (DFG) named “Analysis, modeling and numerical prediction of flow-mixig with and without chemical reactions (SPP 1141)”. The objective of the investigations was to improve the prediction of efficiencies and selectivities of chemical re- tions on macroscopic scale.

Book An Investigation of Ducted Two stream Variable density Turbulent Jet Mixing with Recirculation

Download or read book An Investigation of Ducted Two stream Variable density Turbulent Jet Mixing with Recirculation written by Roy J. Schulz and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted of two-stream, variable-density, turbulent jet mixing with recirculation confined within an axisymmetric duct that simulated a combustor configuration. The recirculating flow fields in the combustor simulator were the result of coaxial jet mixing between a central, primary air stream with a velocity of about 650 ft/sec and an annular secondary stream of hydrogen with velocities of 13, 23, or 48 ft/sec, depending on the desired test conditions. Experimental measurements are presented of radial distributions of time-averaged axial velocity and hydrogen mass fraction, axial distributions of time-averaged static pressure on the duct wall, axial velocity on the duct centerline, and hydrogen mass fraction on the duct wall and on the duct centerline. A theoretical study of the experimental flows was also conducted using a finite difference numerical solution technique for the calculation of viscous, recirculating flows. Comparison of theory and experiment shows that the predictive technique and the turbulence transport model require further development before accurate prediction of recirculating turbulent flows can be realized.

Book Development and Mixing of a Coaxial Jet in Axisymmetric Swirling Flow

Download or read book Development and Mixing of a Coaxial Jet in Axisymmetric Swirling Flow written by R. Lyane and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of an experimental study on the developing and mixing of jet with vortex flow in cylindrical chamber are presented. The study was carried out for several diameter ratios of jet and chamber and a range of mass flows of stream and jet. Various influences of the mass flow of stream on the mixing of jet depending on the value of geometrical parameter d sub zero/D sub k are determined. (Author).

Book Rules of Thumb for Water and Wastewater Engineers

Download or read book Rules of Thumb for Water and Wastewater Engineers written by Moe Toghraei and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-03-30 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rules of Thumb for Water and Wastewater Engineers A unique resource that helps water engineers make quick evaluations and estimate design decisions Water and wastewater treatment are essential processes in the water economy and as such, vital to the health and success of any community. At its core, the essence of this process is converting one analysis (source water, which can come from wells, lakes, sea, wastewater or even treated wastewater) into goal water. The process is generally separated by industrial and municipal processes according to intention of the produced water. Relying on a contaminant-classified approach, Rules of Thumb for Water and Wastewater Engineers provides engineers with the necessary skills to ascertain the best methodology for a broad range of impurities in an H2O source. Within these bounds, the manual offers guidelines for important areas of management: potable water treatment, municipal wastewater treatment, industrial water treatment, and industrial wastewater treatment. As the first step to water treatment is to identify both consumers and contaminants, this program gives engineers a resource to easily reference the appropriate chapter for a given contaminant, and thereby evaluate situations quickly and estimate design decisions at a glance before a more detailed approach is taken. Rules of Thumb for Water and Wastewater Engineers readers will also find: Tools that provide quick way to evaluate a situation and make quick decisions Two chapters on removing dissolved materials, a complex topic that deserves much attention Rules of thumb developed over the course of over 20 years of experience by the author Illustrations and figures to help elucidate points made throughout the text Rules of Thumb for Water and Wastewater Engineers is a useful reference for environmental engineers, chemical engineers, municipal engineers, chemists, and industries including the paper and food industry.
