Book excerpt: This is a story about Charlie Fieldstone, who killed the wife of the doctor who treated him for cancer. Charlie explained to many people, including those working for the police department, that a computer chip that was placed in his brain made him do this killing. He figured that this chip gave him hallucinations and much pain, especially when he failed to do exactly what he was told to do during the hallucinations. The police did not believe Charlie at first, mainly because no image of such a chip showed up on x-rays. At the time, experts, who studied computer chips that could create hallucinations, knew of many of those kinds of chips, but none of them failed to show an image on x-rays. Later in the novel, Charlie took many actions with the hope of persuading the police--and the public at large--to take seriously the notion that a computer chip might have been planted in his brain. One such action that Charlie took when his situation seemed especially desperate resulted in the breaking of his skull.

Book Fifth World Medicine

Download or read book Fifth World Medicine written by Dr. John C. Hughes and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2022-05-25 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What begins as a hunger for authentic medicine in a young medical student evolves into a quest for an entirely new world, a Fifth World, where the line between what is material and spiritual has been dissolved. In Fifth World Medicine, you will explore the lands, myths, and prophecies of the Hopi People, chase after coyotes in the deserts of Arizona, enter a sweat lodge with a shamanic healer in the far North Country of Canada, embrace the power of silence and the medicine of enlightenment, go on a vision quest in the depths of the Grand Canyon, and find your roots in the sacred temple of the human body and the soil of Mother Earth. Fifth World Medicine dares to challenge Westerners and anyone who dwells in the Fourth World, a techno-industrial world where dualistic thinking and linear, scientific methodologies assert their hegemony—leading to disease in Mother Earth and her inhabitants. Fifth World Medicine provides an exit path for those who hunger for something more than the Fourth World. Fifth World Medicine satisfies humanity’s deep, collective hunger for lasting health as it integrates one’s spirit, mind, body, and Earth. If you feel this hunger, follow the wolf on this journey to the Fifth World—a journey guaranteed to test your worldview and entire understanding of what is true.

Book The Descent of Man Diversion Classics

Download or read book The Descent of Man Diversion Classics written by Charles Darwin and published by Diversion Books. This book was released on 2016-06-28 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered one of the most significant pieces of his life's work, Charles Darwin's The Descent of Man forever shaped our understanding of human evolution. Picked apart in 1871 for its controversial content, Darwin's findings explore two essential facets of evolutionary theory: natural selection and sexual selection. Pointing to undeniable anatomical, mental, and social similarities, Darwin asserts not just that all races of humanity share a single origin, but that we share common ancestors with other animals and have evolved in similar ways. Under sexual selection, he argues that females choosing among competing males has determined our differentiating racial characteristics. Though aspects of Descent have been met with contention to this day, this book is a must-read for anyone curious about humanity and its origin. Featuring an appendix of discussion questions, this Diversion Classics edition is ideal for use in book groups and classrooms.
