Book The Manuscript Transmission of the Anthologia Latina

Download or read book The Manuscript Transmission of the Anthologia Latina written by Loriano Zurli and published by Weidmannsche Verlagsbuchhandlung. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This essay does not concern the manuscript transmission of the short series of poems (the so-called minor anthologiae) and of the single ‘wandering’ texts contained in the critical edition by A. Riese, Anthologia Latina I2 1-2, Lipsiae 1894-1906 (which is today generally considered a reference edition), but regards the two large compact anthologies called Salmasiana and Vossiana, standing almost totally in the first of the two books, and normally designated with the overall title Anthologia Latina. Aiming at their total re-edition, the School on the Anthologia Latina of Perugia has so far edited the new critical editions and the essays contained within the series “Anthologiarum Latinarum I (1 Anthologia Vossiana), II (1 Anonymi versus serpentini, 2 Vnius poetae sylloge, 3 Coronatus)” and “Anthologiarum Latinarum parerga I-V”, and published the issues I-VII, 2010-16, of “AL. Rivista di studi di Anthologia Latina”. In the appendix there is the study on the circulation of the codex plenior (reconstructed in the light of the still unpublished letters which its owner, Claude de Saumaise, and his friend, Isaac Voss, wrote to each other a few years before the mid-seventeenth century) which refers to the subject of the essays Apographa Salmasiana 1 and 2 (Hildesheim 2004 and 2010 respectively).

Book Epigrams from the Anthologia Latina

Download or read book Epigrams from the Anthologia Latina written by and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-10-10 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new scholarly edition consists of the Latin text, with translation and detailed commentary, of a sequence of epigrams from the Anthologia Latina (Shackleton Bailey 78-188). The introduction discusses whether these epigrams constitute a unified collection and are the work of a single author, examines their likely date and place of composition – which, it is argued, is North Africa under Vandal rule –, and sets them in their cultural context. The line-by-line commentary covers issues of literary, linguistic and historical significance. Although text and interpretation of these pieces present frequent difficulties, the author confirms that they make up a fascinating collection of considerable importance and merit, contrary to the low reputation generally associated with the Anthologia Latina. The book will be of great interest to students of Latin literature and language in general, the epigram tradition in particular, and the culture of Vandal Africa.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eighth volume of the International Yearbook of Futurism Studies is again an open issue and presents in its first section new research into the international impact of Futurism on artists and artistic movements in France, Great Britain, Hungary and Sweden. This is followed by a study that investigates a variety of Futurist inspired developments in architecture, and an essay that demonstrates that the Futurist heritage was far from forgotten after the Second World War. These papers show how a wealth of connections linked Futurism with Archigram, Metabolism, Archizoom and Deconstructivism, as well as the Nuclear Art movement, Spatialism, Environmental Art, Neon Art, Kinetic Art and many other trends of the 1960s and 70s. The second section focuses on Futurism and Science and contains a number of papers that were first presented atthe fifth bi-annual conference of the European Network for Avant-Garde and Modernism Studies (EAM), held on 1–3 June 2016 in Rennes. They investigate the impact of science on Futurist aesthetics and the Futurist quest for a new perception and rational understanding of the world, as well as the movement’s connection with the esoteric domain, especially in the field of theosophy, the Hermetic tradition, Gnostic mysticism and a whole phalanx of Spiritualist beliefs. The Archive section offers a survey of collections and archives in Northern Italy that are concerned with Futurist ceramics, and a report on the Fondazione Primo Conti in Fiesole, established in April 1980 as a museum, library and archive devoted to the documentation of the international avant-garde, and to Italian Futurism in particular. A review section dedicated to exhibitions, conferences and publications is followed by an annual bibliography of international Futurism studies, exhibition catalogues, special issues of periodicals and new editions.

Download or read book The Wind Shifts written by Francisco Aragón and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2022-02-22 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wind Shifts gathers, for the first time, works by emerging Latino and Latina poets in the twenty-first century. Here readers will discover 25 new and vital voices including Naomi Ayala, Richard Blanco, David Dominguez, Gina Franco, Sheryl Luna, and Urayoán Noel. All of the writers included in this volume have published poetry in well-regarded literary magazines. Some have published chapbooks or first collections, but none had published more than one book at the time of selection. This results in a freshness that energizes the enterprise. Certainly there is poetry here that is political, but this is not a polemical book; it is a poetry book. While conscious of their roots, the artists are equally conscious of living in the contemporary world—fully engaged with the possibilities of subject and language. The variety is tantalizing. There are sonnets and a sestina; poems about traveling and living overseas; poems rooted in the natural world and poems embedded in suburbia; poems nourished by life on the U.S.–Mexico border and poems electrified by living in Chicago or Los Angeles or San Francisco or New York City. Some of the poetry is traditional; some is avant-garde; some is informed by traditional poetry in Spanish; some follows English forms that are hundreds of years old. There are love poems, spells that defy logic, flashes of hope, and moments of loss. In short, this is the rich and varied poetry of young, talented North American Latinos and Latinas.
