This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alternative methods for quantifying the economic impacts associated with future increases in the ambient concentration of CO2 were examined. A literature search was undertaken, both to gain a better understanding of the ways in which CO2 buildup could affect crop growth and to identify the different methods available for assessing the impacts of CO2-induced environmental changes on crop yields. The second task involved identifying the scope of both the direct and indirect economic impacts that could occur as a result of CO2-induced changes in crop yields. The third task then consisted of a comprehensive literature search to identify what types of economic models could be used effectively to assess the kinds of direct and indirect economic impacts that could conceivably occur as a result of CO2 buildup. Specific attention was focused upon national and multi-regional agricultural sector models, multi-country agricultural trade models, and macroeconomic models of the US economy. The fourth and final task of this research involved synthesizing the information gathered in the previous tasks into a systematic framework for assessing the direct and indirect economic impacts of CO2-induced environmental changes related to agricultural production.

Book Measuring the Impact of Climate Change on Indian Agriculture

Download or read book Measuring the Impact of Climate Change on Indian Agriculture written by Ariel Dinar and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the Ricardian approach (a cross sectional analysis of farm performance across different climate zones), this report examines the impact of climate change on the agriculture sector and the sector's adaptation to that change. Studies in the report measure the climate sensitivity of low-capital agriculture, test whether actual farm performance is as sensitive to climate as agronomic models predict, and compare the climate sensitivity of low-capital farms with the results already calibrated for U.S. agriculture. The goal of the study is to examine farm behavior and test whether there is any evidence that farmers in developing countries currently adjust to their local climates.

Book Global Environmental Change and Agriculture

Download or read book Global Environmental Change and Agriculture written by George B. Frisvold and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines global environmental constraints on sustained agricultural growth, emphasizing empirical applications to illustrate how to assess the critical linkages between environmental quality, agricultural development, and overall economic performance. Addresses a wide range of environmental problems in computable general equilibrium models, social accounting matrix analysis, national income accounting, risk measurement, and models of public finance. Suggests how agriculture can be restructured to have less impact, particularly on climate change, but also on the loss of genetic diversity, water pollution, groundwater depletion, and soil erosion. The result of several cooperative research projects; earlier versions of the papers were presented at a conference for which no date or location are revealed.
