Book A Pictorial Treatise on Gall Bladder Cancer

Download or read book A Pictorial Treatise on Gall Bladder Cancer written by Vinay K Kapoor and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-08 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers various aspects of gall bladder cancer, e.g. its epidemiology, etiology, pathology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, investigations, staging, management, prevention, etc. Gall bladder cancer is the most common form of biliary tract cancer worldwide, there are peculiar geographical variations in its incidence; while it is rare in the developed west (North America and Western Europe), high incidence rates are reported from Central and South America, Central and Eastern Europe, East Asia (Japan and Korea) and northern India. In addition, the book addresses a number of related issues including thick walled gall bladder, gall bladder cancer with surgical obstructive jaundice, incidental gall bladder cancer, the role and place of common bile duct excision, the Japanese aggressive surgical approach, management of asymptomatic gall stones, etc. An authoritative work that provides detailed insights into various aspects of gall bladder cancer and its management, the book offers a valuable resource for physicians in high-incidence areas and low-incidence areas alike. It is richly illustrated throughout with radiographs (US, CT, MRI, etc.) and operative and specimen photos.

Book Biology of Tumors Cellular Biology and Growth

Download or read book Biology of Tumors Cellular Biology and Growth written by Frederick Becker and published by Springer. This book was released on 1975 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As was shown in the first two volumes of this series, great strides have been made in identifying many of the agents or classes of substances responsible for carcinogenesis and in delineating their interactions with the cell. Clearly, the aim of such studies is that, once identified, these agents can be eliminated from the environment. Yet, despite these advances and the elimination of some important carcinogenic agents, one major problem exists. It is a constant monitor of all oncologic study and diminishes the importance of every experiment and of every clinical observation. As we noted earlier, that problem is our inability to define the malignant cell. It is through studies of the fundamental biology of tumors that we seek this definition. A vast amount of information has been gathered which describes what this cell does and-to a lesser extent-how it does it. But the why evades us. We have been unable to define the malignant cell, save in broad terms by comparing it to its normal counterpart. The major problem appears to be that the malignant cell does so much. It is a chimera, mystifyingly composed of normal activities and structures, of phenotypic schizophrenia with embryonic, fetal, and adult charac teristics and, occasionally, a hint of an unclassifiable capacity unique to malignant cells.

Book Cancer as a Metabolic Disease

Download or read book Cancer as a Metabolic Disease written by Thomas Seyfried and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-05-18 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book addresses controversies related to the origins of cancer and provides solutions to cancer management and prevention. It expands upon Otto Warburg's well-known theory that all cancer is a disease of energy metabolism. However, Warburg did not link his theory to the "hallmarks of cancer" and thus his theory was discredited. This book aims to provide evidence, through case studies, that cancer is primarily a metabolic disease requring metabolic solutions for its management and prevention. Support for this position is derived from critical assessment of current cancer theories. Brain cancer case studies are presented as a proof of principle for metabolic solutions to disease management, but similarities are drawn to other types of cancer, including breast and colon, due to the same cellular mutations that they demonstrate.

The result is a gripping narrative that reveals why the public's immense investment in research has been badly misspent, why scientists seldom collaborate and share their data, why new drugs are so expensive yet routinely fail, and why our best hope for progress-- brilliant young scientists-- are now abandoning the search for a cure.
