Book Unsteady Supersonic Combustion

Download or read book Unsteady Supersonic Combustion written by Mingbo Sun and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-14 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the unsteady phenomena needed to understand supersonic combustion. Following an initial chapter that introduces readers to the basic concepts in and classical studies on unsteady supersonic combustion, the book highlights recent studies on unsteady phenomena, which offer insights on e.g. interactions between acoustic waves and flames, flow dominating instability, ignition instability, flame flashback, and near-blowout-limit combustion. In turn, the book discusses in detail the fundamental mechanisms of these phenomena, and puts forward practical suggestions for future scramjet design.

Book IUTAM Symposium on Unsteady Separated Flows and their Control

Download or read book IUTAM Symposium on Unsteady Separated Flows and their Control written by Marianna Braza and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-29 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Volume is the Proceedings of the IUTAM Symposium on Unsteady Separated Flows and Their Control held in Corfu, Greece, 18–22 June 2007. This was the second IUTAM Symposium on this subject, following the symposium in Toulouse, in April 2002. The Symposium consisted of single plenary sessions with invited lectures, - lected oral presentations, discussions on special topics and posters. The complete set of papers was provided to all participants at the meeting. The thematic sessions of this Symposium are presented in the following: Experimental techniques for the unsteady ow separation Theoretical aspects and analytical approaches of ow separation Instability and transition Compressibility effects related to unsteady separation Statistical and hybrid turbulence modelling for unsteady separated ows Direct and Large-Eddy Simulation of unsteady separated ows Theoretical/industrial aspects of unsteady separated ow control This IUTAM Symposium concerned an important domain of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics nowadays. It focused on the problem of ow separation and of its control. It achieved a uni ed approach regrouping the knowledge provided from theoretical, experimental, numerical simulation and modelling aspects for unsteady separated ows (incompressible and compressible regimes) and included ef cient control devices to achieve attenuation or suppression of separation. The subject - eas covered important themes in the domain of fundamental research as well as in the domain of applications.

Book Model based Feedback Control of Cavity Resonance

Download or read book Model based Feedback Control of Cavity Resonance written by Clarence W. Rowley and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents results of experiments and numerical simulations studying closed-loop feedback control of oscillations in the compressible flow past a rectangular cavity. When weapons bays are exposed to high flow speeds, extremely large pressure fluctuations result, and are often large enough to cause structural damage to the aircraft and internal stores. The goal of this work is to design an implement a model-based feedback controller to suppress oscillations in the flow past a cavity over a range of operating conditions, using much less power than open-loop techniques; and to understand the physics well enough to allow the techniques to be reliably transferred to full-scale aircraft. Several specific advances have been made in this work, relevant for cavity flow control as well as for other closed-loop flow control applications. Theoretical models are presented for temporally developing shear layers and cavity oscillations at the flow conditions used in both simulations and experiments. These models can be used to construct dynamic observers, which reconstruct the full flow information from a limited number of sensors, and significantly outperform static estimators such as Linear Stochastic Estimation (LSE).

Book An Experimental Study of Passive Control of Hypersonic Cavity Flow Oscillations

Download or read book An Experimental Study of Passive Control of Hypersonic Cavity Flow Oscillations written by D. S. Dolling and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study of open cavity flow has been made in a high Reynolds number, Mach 5 turbulent boundary layer. The majority of measurements made were of fluctuating wall pressures. The objectives were: (1) examine how effective changes in front and rear wall geometry were at attenuating the pressure oscillations, (2) explore how impingement of a shock wave (variable strength and position) the cavity flow, and (3) how stores (different geometries and positions) affected the cavity flow. In addition, techniques which were judged effective at attenuating pressure oscillations for the empty cavity were used with shock impingement and with stores in order to explore their effectiveness under perturbed flow conditions. The results show that vented and slotted walls, and spoilers are ineffective. A 3-D rear wall (swept in both planes and symmetric about the center line) attenuated the strongest oscillations by factors of up to 7 compared to the baseline rectangular cavity. Regardless of shock impingement position, shock strength, store position, store dimensions, store to cavity volume ratio and asymmetric store arrangement the cavity oscillation frequencies remain essentially unchanged. Based on the mean and rms Pressure distributions (whose magnitude varies substantially but whose basic shape does not change significantly) and surface flow patterns it appears that the essential flow structure also remains largely unchanged. These similarities suggest that control techniques developed for the empty cavity flow should be effective with shock impingement or store release. Tests using two passive control rear walls in perturbed cavity flow support this conclusion.
