Book A Theory for the Elastic Deflections of Plates Integrally Stiffened on One Side

Download or read book A Theory for the Elastic Deflections of Plates Integrally Stiffened on One Side written by Robert F. Crawford and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An elastic-deflection theory is presented for anisotropic plates which exhibit coupling between bending and stretching. In particular, the theory provides a basis for analyzing plates integrally stiffened on one side. The effect of coupling is responsible for the presence of added terms in the potential-energy expression, the small- and large deflection equations of equilibrium, and the boundary conditions. Example calculations show that in the case of a simply supported square plate loaded in compression and having equal flexural stiffnesses in the principal directions, coupling may significantly lower the in-plane compressive load at which deflections grow rapidly.

Book The Bending and Stretching of Plates

Download or read book The Bending and Stretching of Plates written by E. H. Mansfield and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1989-09-29 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the world's leading authorities on plate behavior, this study gives a clear physical insight into elastic plate behavior. Small-deflection theory is treated in Part 1 in chapters dealing with basic equations: including thermal effects and multi-layered anisotropic plates, rectangular plates, circular and other shaped plates, plates whose boundaries are amenable to conformal transformation, plates with variable thickness, and approximate methods. Large-deflection theory is treated in Part 2 in chapters dealing with basic equations and exact solutions; approximate methods, including post-buckling behavior; and asymptotic theories for very thin plates, including tension field theory and inextensional theory. The mathematical content is necessarily high, making the style of the book appropriate to engineers and applied mathematicians. E.H. Mansfield is a Fellow of the Royal Society, a founder member of the Fellowship of Engineering, and the author of over 100 publications.

Book Nonlinear Analysis of Structures 1997

Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis of Structures 1997 written by Muthukrishnan Sathyamoorthy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Analysis of Structures presents a complete evaluation of the nonlinear static and dynamic behavior of beams, rods, plates, trusses, frames, mechanisms, stiffened structures, sandwich plates, and shells. These elements are important components in a wide variety of structures and vehicles such as spacecraft and missiles, underwater vessels and structures, and modern housing. Today's engineers and designers must understand these elements and their behavior when they are subjected to various types of loads. Coverage includes the various types of nonlinearities, stress-strain relations and the development of nonlinear governing equations derived from nonlinear elastic theory. This complete guide includes both mathematical treatment and real-world applications, with a wealth of problems and examples to support the text. Special topics include a useful and informative chapter on nonlinear analysis of composite structures, and another on recent developments in symbolic computation. Designed for both self-study and classroom instruction, Nonlinear Analysis of Structures is also an authoritative reference for practicing engineers and scientists. One of the world's leaders in the study of nonlinear structural analysis, Professor Sathyamoorthy has made significant research contributions to the field of nonlinear mechanics for twenty-seven years. His foremost contribution to date has been the development of a unique transverse shear deformation theory for plates undergoing large amplitude vibrations and the examination of multiple mode solutions for plates. In addition to his notable research, Professor Sathyamoorthy has also developed and taught courses in the field at universities in India, Canada, and the United States.
