But inside, I felt a surge of enormous energy, with the potential to approach aging as an uncharted adventure instead of a prison sentence." --from the Introduction Unlike other authors, spiritual director Linda Douty discusses the challenges and surprises of aging by talking about how you actually feel, not what you're supposed to feel. In a warm, down-to-earth voice, she offers a spiritually grounded method to adjust to the unexpected as you grow older. There is no one-size-fits-all here, but a variety of responses to the inner and outer transformations of aging and new ways of looking at them. Download or read book Men Women and Property in England 1780 1870 written by R. J. Morris and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-02-03 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an innovative study of middle-class behaviour and property relations in English towns in Georgian and Victorian Britain. Through the lens of wills, family papers, property deeds, account books and letters, the author offers a reading of the ways in which middle-class families survived and surmounted the economic difficulties of early industrial society. He argues that these were essentially 'networked' families created and affirmed by a 'gift' network of material goods, finance, services and support, with property very much at the centre of middle-class survival strategies. His approach combines microhistorical studies of individual families with a broader analysis of the national and even international networks within which these families operated. The result is a significant contribution to the history, and to debates about the place of structural and cultural analysis in historical understanding.

Download or read book The Golden Crumbs written by Rizalito Etcobanez and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-10-20 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Bible is a life-giving collection of sixty-six inspiring literary masterpieces. Hebrews 4:12 states that The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The author has first encountered this life-changing word of God over 40 years ago; his life got drastically changed. This book is a collection of his personal thoughts and experiences compiled daily as he studied the Bible during his devotional time. Indeed, great blessings are experienced when the Bible is studied in its entirety. Yet, even a quick perusal can be spiritually beneficial, too. We may liken a Bible verse merely as a crumb from the whole loaf of Gods word. But they are golden, hence, the title The Golden Crumbs.
Download or read book Dee Brown on the Civil War written by Dee Brown and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 845 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three true tales of Civil War combat, as recounted by a #1 New York Times–bestselling author of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. The acclaimed historian of the American West turns his attention to the country’s bloody civil conflict, chronicling the exploits of extraordinary soldiers who served in unexpected ways at a pivotal moment in the nation’s history. Grierson’s Raid: The definitive work on one of the most astonishing missions of the Civil War’s early days. For two weeks in the spring of 1862, Col. Benjamin Grierson, a former music teacher, led 1,700 Union cavalry troops on a raid from Tennessee to Louisiana. The improbably successful mission diverted Confederate attention from Grant’s crossing of the Mississippi and set the stage for the Siege of Vicksburg. General Sherman called it “the most brilliant expedition of the war.” The Bold Cavaliers: In 1861, Brig. Gen. John Hunt Morgan and his brother-in-law Basil Duke put together a group of formidable horsemen, and set to violent work. Morgan’s Raiders began in their home state, staging attacks, recruiting new soldiers, and intercepting Union telegraphs. Most were imprisoned after unsuccessful incursions into Ohio and Indiana years later, but some Raiders would escape, regroup, and fight again in different conflicts. “Accurate and frequently exciting” (Kirkus Reviews). The Galvanized Yankees: The little-known and awe-inspiring true story of a group of captured Confederate soldiers who chose to serve in the Union Army rather than endure the grim conditions of prisoner of war camps. “An accurate, interesting, and sometimes thrilling account of an unusual group of men who rendered a valuable service to the nation in a time of great need” (The New York Times Book Review).
