This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Baptist Young People's Union of America This handbook, giving the history of the Baptist Young People's Union of America, is timely and valuable. The Baptist Young People's Union of America has passed its twenty-first anniversary, and the Executive Committee has been wise in putting the record of the achievement of these years into permanent form. It has also been fortunate in securing a man like Doctor Conley to write it. He has done his work with the disadvantage of distance between his residence and the headquarters of the Baptist Young People's Union, where information could more easily be secured. He is a busy man, carrying the responsibility of an important church, but in the face of these handicaps, he has done an excellent piece of work. He has been painstaking, dispassionate, and sympathetic. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Children and the Church

Download or read book The Children and the Church written by Francis E. Clark and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Children and the Church: And the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor, as a Means of Bringing Them Together Some time ago a chance article published in the Congregationalist entitled "How One Church looks after its Young People," describing the methods of the Society of Christian Endeavor, was received with considerable favor, and was republished in various papers in this country and abroad. This article unexpectedly brought to the author many letters asking for further particulars. To these he responded as fully as his time would permit, while he tried to reply to them at greater length by other articles in various religious newspapers. The correspondence, however, soon grew quite beyond his ability to furnish careful replies, and this opened up the whole question of Christian nurture as a practical matter. It became evident that there was, among pastors and other Christian workers, a widespread desire for any light, however feeble, which might be shed on the relation of children to the church. This little book is an attempt to answer the questions thus raised, and to solve the problems suggested, by stating, as clearly as possible, the needs and difficulties in the way of Christian nurture, and by presenting a practical plan to accomplish this end which in many cases has proved successful. Book Entertainments for Church Socials Women s Social and Charitable Organizations

This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Entertainments for Church Socials, Women's Social and Charitable Organizations: Juvenile Young People's Societies, and Private Parties The Festival of Roses is a beautiful entertainment for the month of June, and has delighted all who have seen it. It is attended with but little expense, and must be given when roses are just in their prime. Let a large committee be appointed to solicit roses - the cut flowers, (who that has them will not share them for a benevolent enterprise?) also trailing vines of all kinds, and ferns. From these, select the choicest and put aside to be made into hand and button hole bouquets and sold. If possible, give the entertainment in one large, rather than in several small rooms, as less material will be required for decorating, and the general effect will be more pleasing. For decorations use festoons of cheese cloth of the colors of roses - pink, red, white, yellow, cream and rose. After this is arranged, pin, with common dressing pins, roses of all colors, also vines and fern leaves at intervals on the drapery. The cheese cloth can be sold after the entertainment, or laid aside to be used on another occasion. If the room is not carpeted, a home-like effect is obtained by placing rugs here and there on the floor, and having rockers, easels, etc., arranged as in a parlor. Book Ways and Means for the Young People s Society of Christian Endeavor

Download or read book Ways and Means for the Young People s Society of Christian Endeavor written by Francis Edward Clark and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-12-25 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ways and Means for the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor: A Book of Suggestions for the Prayer-Meeting, the Committees, and All Lines of Christian Work Adopted by Christian Endeavor Societies The pastor and Older church-members were naturally anxious concerning these young disciples, and felt that great wisdom and care were necessary to keep them true to the Saviour during the first critical years Of their disci pleship. The problem weighed heavily upon their minds, for they felt that neither the Sunday-school, nor - the church prayer-meeting, nor the young people's prayer-meeting, though all well'sustained and admirable in their way, were sufficient to hold and mould the Christian character Of these young converts. There was a gap between conver sion and church-membership to be filled, and all these young souls were to be trained and set at work. How should these things be done? These were the pressing problems. After much prayer and thought, the pastor of the church invited the recent converts, as well as the young church-members, to his house, on the evening Of February 2, 1881, and after an hour Of social intercourse presented a constitution, which he had previously drawn up, Of the Williston Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor. This constitution is essentially the same as that adopted by the great majority Of Societies of Chris tian Endeavor at the present day. Some three years later, at the request of one Of the national conventions, with the aid Of Rev. S. W. Adriance, the writer revised the constitution and framed the by-laws, adding various committees as they now appear in the Model Constitution. But the essential features of the work were in the first constitution. The definition Of the Object, the two classes Of members, the prayer-meeting pledge (the most important part of the constitution), the consecration or experience meeting, the roll-call, the pro vision for dropping members, and the three main com mittees, are provisions which are all found in the first constitution.
