Book Passage Meditation

Download or read book Passage Meditation written by Eknath Easwaran and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2010-09 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pioneered by spiritual master Eknath Easwaran, passage meditation consists of memorizing an inspirational spiritual passage and then sending it deep into consciousness through slow, sustained attention. It keeps meditation fresh and varied because readers can select the passages - from one tradition or many - that embody their chosen ideals. Many readers also enjoy the passages for their poetic and intellectual appeal. This form of meditation offers all the richness and depth of traditional wisdom, together with a practical method for bringing that wisdom into daily life. The book situates passage meditation as part of Easwaran's eight-point program that, based on traditional spiritual practices but adjusted for modern lifestyles, shows readers how to stay calm and focused at work and home. This edition includes a new preface of previously unpublished material by Easwaran and an epilogue that explains the story behind the book and invites new readers to join the author on this adventure in the ''world within.''

Book You Have a Chance

Download or read book You Have a Chance written by Sri Ram and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2022-08-02 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tempest, that’s what I will describe my professional life spread over 40 years. Some say being a woman is some sort of curse. No being a man is also equally difficult. All human beings will have to undergo the some kind of grind. I remember someone telling “ An elephant has it’s own problem and an ant has it’s own problem”. Just learn to laugh at yourselves! Sri Ratan Tata once told students “ Don’t take anything seriously”. I have no regrets about anything nor have animosity towards anyone. This book is a honest introspection of my experiences with Indian, multinational and family-managed businesses. The intention is to help all readers to prepare themselves to become leaders in the manufacturing industry. I learned a lot from these experiences and continue to learn. Someone had once told me when one door closes, another door opens. How right! I am thankful to all my Gurus of all age groups who guided me throughout the tempest.

Book excerpt: Flora Isabel MacDonald – politician, humanitarian, adventurer, and role model for a generation of women – was known across Canada and beyond simply as Flora. In her memoir, co-authored by award-winning journalist and author Geoffrey Stevens, she tells her personal story for the very first time. Flora! describes her amazing journey from her childhood and her time at secretarial school in Cape Breton, through her years in backroom Progressive Conservative politics, to elected office and her appointment as Canada’s first female minister of foreign affairs. Finally, she details her exceptional humanitarian work in India and in war-torn Africa and Afghanistan. Flora was driven by a lifelong conviction that there is nothing a woman cannot achieve in a world controlled by men, and she pursued this conviction in everything she did, carving a path for women in Parliament. She won international acclaim for bringing 60,000 Vietnamese refugees to Canada, and for engineering the rescue of six American hostages in Tehran in a top-secret collaboration with the CIA known as the Canadian Caper. She exposed the inhumane treatment of inmates at Kingston’s Prison for Women. She defied male chauvinists in the Progressive Conservative party by running for its leadership, and she introduced the Employment Equity Act to guarantee women equal access to federal jobs. Flora was brave. She was relentless. She was controversial. She was a force of nature. In her own words and drawing from interviews with those who knew her, Flora! grants us insight into this exceptional woman who changed the course of history.

Book Patching Development

Download or read book Patching Development written by Rajesh Veeraraghavan and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-16 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diving into an original and unusually positive case study from India, Patching Development shows how development programs can be designed to work. How can development programs deliver benefits to marginalized citizens in ways that expand their rights and freedoms? Political will and good policy design are critical but often insufficient due to resistance from entrenched local power systems. In Patching Development, Rajesh Veeraraghavan presents an ethnography of one of the largest development programs in the world, the Indian National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), and examines NREGA's implementation in the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. He finds that the local system of power is extremely difficult to transform, not because of inertia, but because of coercive counter strategy from actors at the last mile and their ability to exploit information asymmetries. Upper-level NREGA bureaucrats in Andhra Pradesh do not possess the capacity to change the power axis through direct confrontation with local elites, but instead have relied on a continuous series of responses that react to local implementation and information, a process of patching development. Patching development is a top-down, fine-grained, iterative socio-technical process that makes local information about implementation visible through technology and enlists participation from marginalized citizens through social audits. These processes are neither neat nor orderly and have led to a contentious sphere where the exercise of power over documents, institutions and technology is intricate, fluid and highly situated. A highly original account with global significance, this book casts new light on the challenges and benefits of using information and technology in novel ways to implement development programs.
