Book Work and Play for Little Girls Classic Reprint

Download or read book Work and Play for Little Girls Classic Reprint written by Hedwig Levi and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Work and Play for Little Girls In daring to send this little unassuming book out into the world I am confident that it will make its way into the hearts of children, and prove a joy to them, for a well-known saying of Emerson reads: "The Secret of Happiness is: Joy in the work of our Hands," and this is what this little book aims to teach. It is addressed to all children, boys as well as girls, for they will find pleasure in the things this little book will teach them to make with their own hands. During the long winter evenings especially my little friends are thinking of Christmas. Wishes are jotted down, presents made, and the talk constantly runs on about Christmas and the tree; and the ornaments for the tree will delight them all the more if they have fashioned them with their own clever little fingers. Here is an opportunity to allow the imagination full reign, and there is really not much instruction necessary. At the same time, it is here that this little book will prove a very welcome aid to many. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Little Excitement: A Play for Girls in Three Acts The costumes for the play should involve little or no expense. If it is not possible to borrow a policemans uniform for Mike, he can wear dark trousers, a dark blue coat with collar turned up and ornamented with gold buttons. A helmet can be easily imitated out of card-board covered with cloth. He should wear white cotton gloves and carry a policeman's club. A reddish wig is advisable. This part can with perfect propriety be taken by a girl. Nora. Act I. A red wig. Light colored blouse turned in at neck. Very full skirt of gay plaid gingham or striped calico, short enough to show white cotton stockings and large clumsy boots with half of the buttons missing. Short jacket of antique design and absurdly trimmed sailor hat. Carpet bag and umbrella. Later, when Nora is attired as Angte, she puts on Dollys coat turned inside out and Maudies hat hind-side-before. Face is shrouded in pink automobile veil and white gloves thrust on hands. Act. II. A silk dress much trimmed and both too tight and too short. A sash and ribbons fail to hide deficiencies. Necklace and bracelets. Hair in a stiff braid tied with huge bow. Later, at the dancing lesson, Nora changes to white dress like those of other girls but too short in sleeves and skirt, and evidently a misfit. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sketches of Little Girls: The Good-Natured Little Girl, the Thoughtless, the Vain, the Orderly, the Slovenly, the Forward, the Snappish, the Persevering, the Modest, and the Awkward Little Girl I was freely admitted into the play-ground, the school-room, and the nursery; and have great reason to believe I was somewhat of a favourite in them all, for I have often heard two or three merry little voices exclaim on my approach, Oh, here comes Mr. Lovechild; now we shall have some fun? And plenty of fun we did have, sure enough; as you would have thought, if you had heard the noise we sometimes made, although I am old enough to be grandpapa to my little playmates. This book was released on 2018-07-27 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Little Sewing Book for a Little Girl Too often we hear grown-up girls and women say that they do not like to sew or that they don't know the first thing about sewing. What they really mean is that they do not like to sew because they don't know the first thing about it. We always like the things we know how to do and do well. The neglected art of the needle is coming again into its own and the time to inculcate its principles is in childhood, when the mind is plastic and the fingers flexible. Any little girl may develop into a finished needlewoman if she undertakes the study of sewing with a compe tent teacher who can combine practical instruo tion with the play Spirit, and make the lesson' as interesting as a game. Book Young Folk s Handbook Classic Reprint

Download or read book Young Folk s Handbook Classic Reprint written by After School Club of America and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Young Folk's Handbook The Candle Lighters love to get letters from Uncle Nat, but of course they do not know very much about clubs yet. Nevertheless, they like to belong to something which their older brothers and sisters know about, so we enroll them in The After School Club, and, if they are too small to read, their mothers read Uncle N at's letters to them and tell his stories. The mothers give them the finger-plays and the songs and show them how to play the games and make with their little hands things concerning which Uncle Nat has sent their mothers the directions. The little ones will enjoy the pictures, but most of the stories must be read to them. Different names are given to the little circles that the Candle Lighters belong to from time to time. There is a famous Switch Engine group which has a charming letter-paper of its own and tells the little boys who are interested in locomotives and trains many things about them. There is a similar circle for little girls which shows them how to help in the home and to make things which little girls like to play with. Uncle Nat starts to write to his little friends about switch engines and paper dolls, and almost before they know it the children are teasing their mothers to ask Uncle Nat for more. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Play, Its Value and Fifty Games This little volume with its message to the mothers, the teachers and the boys and girls is not a scientific discussion, not a classroom text-book, but a very plain and simple telling of some truths which seem very live ones to me after ten years of happy work with the boys and girls in the country places, the villages and the cities of these United States. I am not dealing with the child through all the stages of development from infancy to adolescence, but with the boys and girls who have left the kindergarten far behind and who so many times, through lack of proper direction, have also left those wonderful and beautiful principles and ideals through which the play of the older boys and girls, indeed the play of the men and women, could be directed, enriched and developed. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story Book for Girls and Boys First she went into the garden, and amused her self by running about through the different walks, and pulling a flower here and a flower there. Soon tired of this, she sat down listlessly on a grass plat, and spent nearly half an hour in looking for a four-leaved clover. Unsuccessful in this, the little girl next resorted to the swing under the apple tree, which her father had made for her, and swung herself for a good while. O dear! I wish I had some one to play with me! She at length said, getting down from the swing, tired with herself, and tired of everything around her. It was more than an hour since Anna had lain aside her work, heartily tired of it; and now she came back into the house, as heartily tired of play; but still, with no disposition to resume her sewing. I wish father would come home, she said, leaning upon the door, and fixing her eyes in the direction from which he always returned in the evening.
