Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I was a 6 y o kid, my Mama, Lulu Jack, would frustratingly send me & my siblings packing, down South to Alabama for Summer vacations. I would hop from my Grandmama Bonnie's Sun-baked, humid front porch, cross the red dirt road, without sidewalks, which is the official border County-line between Prichard Co.-to- Mobile County. I'd plop down, sweatin', meditating by the 100-year-old Great Live Oak Tree, that still stands today. I'd sit under the cool of the Oak's shade as it stood like some ancient Sentinel guarding over my best friend's crickety porch. I'd drink a cold glass of her iced water, as Miss Dane opened another imaginary book conjuring up inside her tiny head. I'd rest at her bosom, listening to the rosy stories my Oracle friend slowly brewed like hot Chili on a subzero January Winter's day.The deepest Oak roots, are also the branches...", My 100 year old best friend, MISS DANE, would tell me. 'Ms D' was an herbalist, and grand master voodoo priestess. She taught me how to use REAL ROSE MAGIC.

Book excerpt: With such groundbreaking bestsellers as Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdomand The Wisdom of Menopause, Dr. Christiane Northrup is one of today’s most trusted and visionary medical experts. Now she presents her most profound and revolutionary approach to women’s health. . . .The mother-daughter relationship sets the stage for our state of health and well-being for our entire lives. Because our mothers are our first and most powerful female role models, our most deeply ingrained beliefs about ourselves as women come from them. And our behavior in relationships—with food, with our children, with our mates, and with ourselves—is a reflection of those beliefs. Once we understand our mother-daughter bonds, we can rebuild our own health, whatever our age, and create a lasting positive legacy for the next generation. Mother-Daughter Wisdomintroduces an entirely new map of female development, exploring the "five facets of feminine power," which range from the basics of physical self-care to the discovery of passion and purpose in life. This blueprint allows any woman—whether ornot she has children—–to repair the gaps in her own upbringing and create a better adult relationship with her mother. If she has her own daughter, it will help her be the mother she has always wanted to be. Written with warmth, enthusiasm, and rare intelligence, Mother-Daughter Wisdom is an indispensable book destined to change lives and become essential reading for all women.

Book Woodshed Wisdom Vol 1

Download or read book Woodshed Wisdom Vol 1 written by Freeman Martin and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine growing up in a clapboard farmhouse without running water, without an inside bathroom, where the sole source of heat was a two-sided fireplace and a wood-burning cookstove in the kitchen, and where air conditioning was non-existent. Now, with all the technological advances of the twenty-first century that allow us to communicate instantly with people all over the world, it's no surprise that we, as the most blessed nation on the face of the earth, are lightyears removed from the simpler time in which people looked to and depended on God's Word for answers to life's questions. Only history will determine if these powerful distractions have led to the extinction of the wisdom of the woodshed. In Woodshed Wisdom, Vol. 1, Freeman Martin gives his personal account of how he experienced God and his word while growing up on a southern farm in the 1950s. While reading, you will be transported to a humbler way of life and will find yourself desiring a simpler daily communion with God over the static of modern life. Freeman Martin is a gifted man of God...You will be blessed by his words of inspiration and homespun humor. —Dr. David Gallamore, Senior Pastor, Rock Springs Baptist Church, Easley, SC Freeman Martin has hit it out of the ballpark with Woodshed Wisdom, Vol. 1! With a healthy dose of humor and rare spiritual insight, Woodshed Wisdom serves up a delightful slice of Americana about a large family surviving and thriving on a farm in the '50s. Every visit to the woodshed will simultaneously tug at your heart and make you want to stand and applaud. This book is a must-read! —J. Gresham Barrett, former U. S. Congressman, South Carolina, Third District Jesus perfected the art of parable telling, earthly stories revealing heavenly truths. In Woodshed Wisdom, Freeman Martin follows that tradition, plucking heavenly truths for today from his well-worn memories of growing up in Appalachia. —Houston T. Hawkins, Colonel USAF (retired)

Morgan's letters had consequences: she and the newspapers that published them were vilified and threatened. Although the trustees of the Montgomery Public Library, where Morgan worked, resisted pressure to fire her, a cross was burned in her yard, and friends, neighbors, former students, and colleagues shunned her.

Book The Collective Spirit of Aging Across Cultures

Download or read book The Collective Spirit of Aging Across Cultures written by Halaevalu F.Ofahengaue Vakalahi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collective, inclusive, and intersectional framework used in this book speaks to the significance of understanding aging across diverse cultures from multiple perspectives, but still as a shared human experience. The underlying message of the book is that although we are unique and different in our aging processes, we are ultimately connected through this physical, mental and spiritual experience of aging. Thus, regardless of whether we are service providers, service recipients, educators or merely fellow human beings, it is important that we approach the aging experience through a collective lens for discovering and sharing resources as we age; honoring the past while simultaneously accepting that the future is here. A few select examples of key findings from this collaborative work are as follows. First, despite progress in the field, certain issues remain to be addressed including the challenges of racism and sexism, mistreatment, the digital divide, poverty, and other social and economic crises in urban and rural communities as they relate to our aging population. Second, the need for sustaining a sense of independence among the aged and interdependence among supportive systems is warranted. Third, our elders continue to benefit from culturally competent services community-based health interventions and social services that addresses normative and emerging challenges for them. Fourth, spirituality in both indigenous and contemporary perspectives remains important for our elders’ development and quality of life.
