Book excerpt: I distinctly remember the afternoon of 22 May 2016 when the news on television flashed Dr Kiran Bedi appointed LG of Puducherry. As much as I was delighted that Kiranji, who had been my inspiration since childhood, was going to occupy such an important constitutional post, I had butterflies in my stomach. Butterflies because I had just received a confirmation from her to be at my college for an important event in September and now this posting! I wondered what would happen. Will she still honor the invitation? I sent her a congratulatory message and reminded her about the invitation. She replied saying, "Will keep up my commitment with you. "This was my first personal interaction with Kiranji or "Maam" as I refer to her now. I have been in awe of her work as LG and have been fortunate to be a part of her creative team and even work with her closely. She calls me her "K-pedia" and I call her my forever inspiration and my godmother. True to her leadership style, she redefined the role of the LG. She defined her purpose of being there to be on a mission to serve people and make Puducherry a "Prosperous Puducherry" . She has remained self-driven and has carved a special place for herself in the constitutional history of our country as an LG who refused to be a rubber stamp, but one who opened the gates of Rajivs to the common people and served them with utmost love and affection. Her kindness spoke through her work and won the hearts of the people. When it comes to kindness as a leadership trait, some people believe that this could be a weakness. But actually kindness strengthens leadership.

Book The Power of Kindness

Download or read book The Power of Kindness written by Dr. Brian Goldman and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2018-04-24 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a veteran emergency room physician, Dr. Brian Goldman has a successful career setting broken bones, curing pneumonia, and otherwise pulling people back from the brink of medical emergency. He always believed that caring came naturally to physicians. But time, stress, errors, and heavy expectations left him wondering if he might not be the same caring doctor he thought he was at the beginning of his career. He wondered what kindness truly looks like—in himself and in others. In The Power of Kindness, Goldman leaves the comfortable, familiar surroundings of the hospital in search of his own lost compassion. A top neuroscientist performs an MRI scan of his brain to see if he is hard-wired for empathy. A researcher at Western University in Ontario tests his personality and makes a startling discovery. Goldman then circles the planet in search of the most empathic people alive, to hear their stories and learn their secrets. He visits a boulevard in São Paulo, Brazil, where he meets a woman who calls a homeless poet her soulmate and reunited him with his family; a research lab in Kyoto, Japan, where he meets a lifelike, empathetic android; and a nursing home in rural Pennsylvania, where he meets a therapist at a nursing home who has an uncanny knack of knowing what’s inside the hearts and minds of people with dementia, as well as her protege, a woman who talked a gun-wielding robber into walking away from his crime. Powerful and engaging, The Power of Kindness takes us far from the theatre of medicine and into the world at large, and investigates why kindness is so vital to our existence.

Book Channel Kindness Stories of Kindness and Community

Download or read book Channel Kindness Stories of Kindness and Community written by Born This Way Foundation Reporters and published by Feiwel & Friends. This book was released on 2020-09-22 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Times Bestseller For Lady Gaga, kindness is the driving force behind everything she says and does. The quiet power of kindness can change the way we view one another, our communities, and even ourselves. She embodies this mission, and through her work, brings more kindness into our world every single day. Lady Gaga has always believed in the importance of being yourself, being kind to yourself, and being kind to others, no matter who they are or where they come from. With that sentiment in mind, she and her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, founded Born This Way Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making the world a kinder and braver place. Through the years, they've collected stories of kindness, bravery and resilience from young people all over the world, proving that kindness truly is the universal language. And now, we invite you to read these stories and follow along as each and every young author finds their voice just as Lady Gaga has found hers. Within these pages, you’ll meet young changemakers who found their inner strength, who prevailed in the face of bullies, who started their own social movements, who decided to break through the mental health stigma and share how they felt, who created safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth, and who have embraced kindness with every fiber of their being by helping others without the expectation of anything in return. In one story, you’ll read about a young person with an autoimmune disease, who after being bullied at school, learned how to practice self-love and started an organization with the mission of educating others about the importance of self-love, too; and in another story, you’ll meet a young person who decided to start a movement to help eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraged others to talk about their feelings openly and honestly, a reminder that kindness and mental wellness go hand in hand. Not only were we moved by these individual acts of kindness, but we were also touched by the many stories of organizations, neighborhoods, and entire communities that fully dedicated themselves to helping those in need and found new, innovative ways to make our world a kinder and braver place. Individually and collectively, these stories prove that kindness not only saves lives but builds community. Kindness is inclusion, it is pride, it is empathy, it is compassion, it is self-respect and it is the guiding light to love. Kindness is always transformational, and its never-ending ripples result in even more kind acts that can change our lives, our communities, and our world.

Book The Language of Kindness

Download or read book The Language of Kindness written by Christie Watson and published by Crown. This book was released on 2018-05-08 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER • A moving, lyrical, beautifully-written portrait of a nurse and the lives she has touched Christie Watson spent twenty years as a nurse, and in this intimate, poignant, and remarkably powerful book, she opens the doors of the hospital and shares its secrets. She takes us by her side down hospital corridors to visit the wards and meet her unforgettable patients. In the neonatal unit, premature babies fight for their lives, hovering at the very edge of survival, like tiny Emmanuel, wrapped up in a sandwich bag. On the cancer wards, the nurses administer chemotherapy and, long after the medicine stops working, something more important--which Watson learns to recognize when her own father is dying of cancer. In the pediatric intensive care unit, the nurses wash the hair of a little girl to remove the smell of smoke from the house fire. The emergency room is overcrowded as ever, with waves of alcohol and drug addicted patients as well as patients like Betty, a widow suffering chest pain, frail and alone. And the stories of the geriatric ward--Gladys and older patients like her--show the plight of the most vulnerable members of our society. Through the smallest of actions, nurses provide vital care and kindness. All of us will experience illness in our lifetime, and we will all depend on the support and dignity that nurses offer us; yet the women and men who form the vanguard of our health care remain unsung. In this age of fear, hate, and division, Christie Watson has written a book that reminds us of all that we share, and of the urgency of compassion.

Book My Friends the Misses Kindness

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After her husband's death and her own breakdown, from which she has been rescued by her good friend Sashie, Janet Sandison sets sail from her West Indian home to return to Scotland and make a new life for herself as an author. She is beset by doubts, but as the days pass aboard R.M.S. Mnemosyne the personalities and dramas of her fellow passengers claim her attention more and more, not least of all the puckish child Helga, and the three elephantine sisters, the Misses Kindness, whose mission in life is to make everyone as much like themselves as possible. Behind their backs they are soon nicknamed 'The Friendly Ones' for, like the Furies of Greek mythology, they must be placated as well as, if possible, avoided. There are other Furies aboard too, for each passenger has his or her private interior demon; but in the young Second Engineer Janet finds an unexpected and rewarding friend, and as the ship draws near to England the threads of all their lives dramatically come together for a while. The deep vein of truth that underlies all Jane Duncan's books is here at its most impressive and, together with her sharp observation of human nature and her story-telling skill, make this one of her most compelling novels.

Book Tenderness Kindness Forgiveness

Download or read book Tenderness Kindness Forgiveness written by Raymond T. O'Donnell and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-11-12 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story is about experiencing the world for almost eighty years and finally a love affair, with God whom I trust, you may have too. Each day, as I would kiss my children on the top of their heads, taking in the sweet smell of their hair, I would envision kissing and smelling the beautiful head of God. I especially experienced this sensation with our youngest son, Michael, until the last day he was with us. I wasn’t angry with God when Michael, our youngest son was taken from Barbara and me. I always knew we belong to God, and especially our children are, without a question, on loan to us. We are all on loan, and hopefully, we will someday be together with the Savior of humanity and His creatures. My aim about writing about events happening before and after Michael’s death made me wonder if angels surrounded us to help ease the terrible pain that could have overwhelmed us. Was it my sins that caused this horrible pain to be initiated on Barbara and me? No, my sins were forgiven long ago through Jesus Christ. Michael, as each of us, are challenged living in a world full of sin and death. How did we get ourselves into this predicament of having to live in a world of sin? The cause came from our first parents, Adam and Eve, who did not appreciate the gift that was given to them in paradise to live a heavenly life. Adam and Eve sinned and were cast out of the paradise garden into the world to experience for themselves the hardships of not being completely with God. I think presently, it is our human nature not to appreciate the gifts we have already in front of us and in our hearts. Often after many people experience feverish hardships in the world, they may begin to understand God’s way is the absolute way to internal happiness. The world isn’t capable of offering us internal happiness, but we may find those gifts already inside us to discover. Are we like Adam and Eve? Yes, we are quite alike in that we are living in a world that can glamorize and only offer sin. However, to break away from that world of sin, all we need to do is ask God. This book had seeds planted from the 1970s when Barbara and I questioned each other about how to make a better world. Barbara said, “We convert the world one person at a time.” And I said, “No, it will take too long, we don’t have time. There has got to be another way.”
