Book Fatigue and Tribological Properties of Plastics and Elastomers

Download or read book Fatigue and Tribological Properties of Plastics and Elastomers written by Laurence W. McKeen and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2009-11-17 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part of a series of core databooks within the William Andrew Plastics Design Library, Fatigue and Tribological Properties of Plastics and Elastomers provides a comprehensive collection of graphical multipoint data and tabular data covering fatigue and tribology. The concept of fatigue is very straightforward: if an object is subjected to a stress or deformation, and it is repeated, the object becomes weaker. This weakening of plastic material is called fatigue. Tribology is the science and technology of surfaces in contact with each other and therefore covers friction, lubrication and wear. The reduction of wear and fatigue and the improvement of lubrication are key bottom-line issues for engineers and scientists involved in the plastics industry and product design with plastics.Fatigue and Tribological Properties of Plastics and Elastomers, Second Edition is an update of all that has changed in the world of plastics since the 1st edition appeared nearly 15 years ago, and has been reorganized from a polymer chemistry point of view. - A hard-working reference tool: part of the daily workflow of engineers and scientists involved in the plastics industry and product design with plastics - The reduction of wear and fatigue and the improvement of lubrication are key bottom-line issues - The data in this book provide engineers with the tools they need to design for low failure rates

Book Selection and Use of Wear Tests for Coatings

Download or read book Selection and Use of Wear Tests for Coatings written by Raymond George Bayer and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 1982 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The selection and use of wear tests for coatings are discussed. Coated materials are vastly different and more complicated than uncoated or monolithic materials. It is therefore necessary to characterize the coating and the coating/substrate interface in terms of physicochemical and mechanical properties. Wear is a multi-faceted phenomena. Various tests used to study the wear properties of coatings are described. They include tests for adhesive wear, abrasive wear, impact erosion wear, and fatigue wear.

Book Engineering Tests of Modified T12 Plastic Airplane Landing Mat

Download or read book Engineering Tests of Modified T12 Plastic Airplane Landing Mat written by Hugh L. Green and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes an investigation conducted for the purpose of evaluating an experimental quantity of commercially fabricated plastic mat. The mat is a sandwich structure fabricated from glass-fabric-reinforced honeycomb core material bonded on top and bottom with epoxy adhesive to polyester-resin-impregnated, glass-fabric, laminated facings. Glass-fabric-reinforced tongue-and-groove side and end connectors are fabricated as integral parts of the panels. Laboratory and engineering traffic tests were conducted to determine various properties of the mat in an overall evaluation for comparison with the original T12 mat and with the project requirements. The service-life criteria under which the mat was tested required 200 coverages of a 25,000-lb single-wheel load with a tire-inflation pressure of 250 psi when placed on a subgrade with a California Bearing Ratio (CBR) of 4. This was more critical than the original criteria under which the T12 was tested, which specified 700 coverages of a 50,000-lb single-wheel load with tire-inflation pressures up to 200 psi when placed on a 15-CBR subgrade. Book Mechanical Evaluation Strategies for Plastics

Download or read book Mechanical Evaluation Strategies for Plastics written by D R Moore and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-11-08 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermoplastics, being non-linear viscoelastic, impose constraints on testing. End products manufactured from these thermopolastics are often anisotropic and tend to complicate the relationships between laboratory test data and service performance. Mechanical Evaluation Strategies for Plastic Materials explains new testing strategies for providing service-pertinent data within a limited budget. It relates the structure of the tests and the functions that they serve to the intrinsic nature of the mechanical properties of thermoplastic materials.

Book Friction and Wear of Polymer Composites

Download or read book Friction and Wear of Polymer Composites written by Klaus Friedrich and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing a useful summary of current knowledge on the friction and wear properties of composite materials, this book fills the gap between publications on fundamental principles of tribology and those on the friction and wear behavior of metals and polymers. Detailed coverage is given of: the fundamental aspects of tribology in general and polymer composites in particular; the effects of the microstructure of composites on friction and wear behavior under different external loading conditions; and the problem of the control of friction and wear behavior in practical situations. Although emphasis is on polymer composites associated with bearing-type applications, part of the book is also devoted to the friction and wear of metal-based composites and rubber compounds. The data are represented in the form of 277 figures, diagrams and photographs, and 68 tables. The author index covers more than 670 references, and the subject index more than 1,000 keywords. The book will be of particular interest to: those involved in research on some aspects of polymer composites tribology (material scientists, physical chemists, mechanical engineers); those wishing to learn more methods for solving practical friction or wear problems (designers, engineers and technologists in industries, dealing with selection, reprocessing and application of polymer engineering materials); and teachers and students at universities.
