Book Wave Propagation in Anisotropic Medium Due to an Oscillatory Point Source with Application to Unidirectional Composites

Download or read book Wave Propagation in Anisotropic Medium Due to an Oscillatory Point Source with Application to Unidirectional Composites written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The far-field displacements in an infinite transversely isotropic elastic medium subjected to an oscillatory concentrated force are derived. The concepts of velocity surface, slowness surface and wave surface are used to describe the geometry of the wave propagation process. It is shown that the decay of the wave amplitudes depends not only on the distance from the source (as in isotropic media) but also depends on the direction of the point of interest from the source. As an example, the displacement field is computed for a laboratory fabricated unidirectional fiberglass epoxy composite. The solution for the displacements is expressed as an amplitude distribution and is presented in polar diagrams. This analysis has potential usefulness in the acoustic emission (AE) and ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation of composite materials. For example, the transient localized disturbances which are generally associated with AE sources can be modeled via this analysis. In which case, knowledge of the displacement field which arrives at a receiving transducer allows inferences regarding the strength and orientation of the source, and consequently perhaps the degree of damage within the composite.

Book Wave Propagation in Layered Anisotropic Media

Download or read book Wave Propagation in Layered Anisotropic Media written by A.H. Nayfeh and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-09-27 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in the study of the dynamic behavior of layered materials in general, and laminated fibrous composites in particular, are presented in this book. The need to understand the microstructural behavior of such classes of materials has brought a new challenge to existing analytical tools. This book explores the fundamental question of how mechanical waves propagate and interact with layered anisotropic media. The chapters are organized in a logical sequence depending upon the complexity of the physical model and its mathematical treatment.

Book Acousto ultrasonic Input output Characterization of Unidirectional Fiber Composite Plate by P Waves

Download or read book Acousto ultrasonic Input output Characterization of Unidirectional Fiber Composite Plate by P Waves written by Peter Liao and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The single reflection problem for an incident P wave at a stress free plane boundary in a semi-infinite transversely isotropic medium whose isotropic plane is parallel to the plane boundary is analyzed. It is found that an obliquely incident P wave results in a reflected P wave and a reflected SV wave. The delay time for propagation between the transmitting and the receiving transducers is computed as if the P waves were propagating in an infinite half space. The displacements associated with the P waves in the plate and which may be detected by a noncontact NDE receiving transducer are approximated by an asymptotic solution for an infinite transversely isotropic medium subjected to a harmonic point load.
