Book Walking the Tightrope Without a Grace Net

Download or read book Walking the Tightrope Without a Grace Net written by Brenda M. Myers and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian life was meant to be danced but not on your tip toes. A tightrope walk was my spiritual life. One missed step meant you were falling into hell if you didn't repent immediately. I was taught that true Christians never sinned, or if they did, they would have to "get saved" all over again. An unreasonable standard of "holiness" and a constant striving of perfection flowed from this belief. Lists of dos and don'ts were in abundance in an effort to practice the "idol of holiness." Are you walking that tightrope? By understanding God's true character through His saving grace on the cross, you can break free from the bondage of legalism and unholy fear, anxiety, and frustration, into a life of gratefulness for God's love, mercy, and grace. You can begin the balancing act of leaving legalism behind and finding true liberty in Christ.

Book Walking the Gendered Tightrope

Download or read book Walking the Gendered Tightrope written by Melissa Haussman and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2023-08-29 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walking the Gendered Tightrope analyzes the gendered expectations for women in high offices through the examples of British Prime Minister Theresa May and U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Even at their highest positions, and while completing their greatest achievements, both May and Pelosi faced gendered critiques and intraparty challenges to their leadership. While other books have analyzed the barriers to higher office that women face, this book reveals how women in positions of power are still forced to balance feminine stereotypes with the perception of power as masculine in order to prove their legitimacy. By examining intraparty dynamics, this book offers a unique comparison between a majoritarian presidential and Westminster parliamentary system. While their parties promoted Pelosi and May to highlight their progressive values, both women faced continually gendered critiques about their abilities to lead their caucuses on difficult policy issues, such as the Affordable Care Act and two Trump impeachment votes for Nancy Pelosi, or finishing Brexit for Theresa May. Grounded in the legislative literature from the United States and Britain, as well as historical accounts and personal interviews, Walking the Gendered Tightrope contributes to the fields of gender and politics, legislative studies, American politics, and British politics.

Book Walking God s Tightrope

Download or read book Walking God s Tightrope written by Victoria Lloyd and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-05-19 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spirit of God said to me, Close your eyes, and I did. Then He said, This is why men should always pray; now open your eyes. As I did, the person that had knocked me to the floor jumped back and shouted as loud as she could to her friend that was with her, Look at her! She is crazy! Man, she is crazy! She backed away from me to the door of the room and called the police on her own self. Life can be like a tennis game; it serves you up all kind of unexpected moves. You have to know how to return your play to be a winner. Jesus made it clear, His favor and loving-kindness and mercy are enough for you through any danger. My strength and power will pitch a tent over and dwell upon you.[1 Corinthians 12:9] while walking Gods tightrope to victory in this world.

Book excerpt: For we are Gods handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do Ephesians 2:10. This presupposes that we were not saved just because we did something good, special, or amazing; on the contrary, after we have been saved we are then called to do good works. Just as in every work we do in life, we need some training. We are first taught what is expected of us and sometimes supervised (rebuked and correctedif that is what it takes) until we got the job done. Then, after passing through the learning curves, we are expected to show some competency and sometimes required to train others (2 Timothy 2:2). 2 Timothy 3:16 outlines the purpose of the Scriptures, which is teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training till we attain verse 17 status: thoroughly equipped. God does not want us to be ill-equipped, rather to be completely and thoroughly equipped for every (not just some, but every) good work. The Scripture: teaches us what we ought to know shows us sins, blind spots, or errors to avoid helps us make it right again and helps us stay our course If there is any blessing or laurel or glory as a result of this book, therefore, let the glory be to God and not to men.

Book Hearing God in Conversation

Download or read book Hearing God in Conversation written by Sam Williamson and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I picked it up out of curiosity and I couldn’t put it down."--Eugene Peterson Christians are comfortable saying that Christianity is about a relationship with God. Yet many might also say that they sense little meaningful relationship with God in their own lives. After all, the foundation of good relationship is communication—-but conversation with God often seems to go only one way. We may sing of walking and talking with God in the garden, His voice falling on our ears, but few have heard that beloved voice themselves. Sam Williamson acknowledges the fundamental human longing to hear God’s voice and offers a hopeful supposition: God is always speaking—-we’ve just never been taught how to recognize His voice. Williamson handles this potentially heady topic with his characteristic straightforwardness and leavening humor. This book deftly bridges the gap between solid biblical theology and practical application, addressing topics such as how to truly pray without ceasing, how to brainstorm with God, how to navigate our emotions, how to answer God’s questions, and how to hear God’s voice for others. Hearing God in Conversation offers simple, step-by-step lessons on how to hear God. Williamson begins with Scripture meditation. He then expands the practice of listening for that voice everywhere—in the checkout line, on the job, in a movie theater, and even in silence. From there, he demonstrates how to hear God’s guidance when making any decision. By the end, readers’ eyes and ears will be opened to the limitless methods through which God speaks.
