Book Vibration Analysis of a Hand grinder System Under Wheel Unbalance Excitation

Download or read book Vibration Analysis of a Hand grinder System Under Wheel Unbalance Excitation written by LakshmiNarayana Naga Nemani and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Use of hand-held grinding machines can cause excessive vibrations of the hand-arm system. Continued use of these vibrating tools has been found to be connected with various patterns of diseases affecting the blood vessels, nerves, bones, joints and muscles of the hand and forearm. The most severe symptom of prolonged exposure to hand-transmitted vibrations is the Vibration Induced White Finger (VWF) disease. The development of these disorders depends on the level of acceleration produced by the tool. In this thesis, the tool vibrations transmitted to the operator's hand and arm is investigated. A grinder model is developed and the calculated natural frequencies have been validated through laboratory experiments. Further, a two degrees-of-freedom (DOF) lumped parameter model of the human hand-arm system is developed, along each of the three orthogonal directions in order to identify the parameters of the hand-arm vibration (HAV) models using the reported mechanical impedance data and nonlinear programming based optimization technique.

Book The hand arm vibration syndrome and the limits of construction workers daily exposure levels of vibration

Download or read book The hand arm vibration syndrome and the limits of construction workers daily exposure levels of vibration written by Eddy Mihigo and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-11-20 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project Report from the year 2010 in the subject Health - Public Health, grade: N/A, University of Botswana, language: English, abstract: This research project is about the Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) which construction workers suffer from. Are the daily exposure levels of vibration to which construction workers are exposed within acceptable limits? HAVS is a group of symptoms related to the use of equipment and tools that vibrate. Symptoms range from vascular and neurological to musculoskeletal, and affect different parts of the hand-arm system. Vibration is the oscillatory motion of bodies. It is divided into hand transmitted vibration, which is vibration entering the body through hands, and whole-body vibration, which enters the body when it is supported by some vibrating surface. There are over 8 million workers that are exposed to vibration, and as an occupational hazard, it is not given much attention in Botswana and in most parts of the developing world. A quantitative cross-sectional study design was used since there were different groups whose results were compared. The vibrometer was be used to quantify the daily vibration levels in each sample population, and the questionnaire distributed provided additional information as to the presence of symptoms or history of any discomfort resulting from the type of work. The population of interest includes the workers at a construction site within the University of Botswana, and these were divided into 5 groups, each group comprised 2 to 3 workers selected systematically, from whom data was collected depending on the tools available on the construction site. This means that the study population was 15. When one looks at its negative effects on the human body, which range from simple nausea to HAVS, it is safe to say that vibration is not getting the attention it needs. Various technical developments in society have led to an increase in the number and types of sources of vibration to which people are exposed.

Book 14th International Conference on Hand Arm Vibration

Download or read book 14th International Conference on Hand Arm Vibration written by Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung (DGUV) and published by DGUV/IFA. This book was released on 2019-05-30 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In May 2019, the Institut für Arbeitsschutz der Deutschen Gesetzlichen Unfallversicherung (IFA) was hosting the 14th International Conference on Hand-Arm-Vibration. The event is organised every four years under the auspices of international expert bodies at changing places. It is aimed at all stakeholders in the subject, whether experts from the occupational safety and health and research communities or management personnel in the areas of manufacture and design. Mechanized manual work is often associated with exposure to vibration that may impact adversely upon the health and well-being of the affected individuals. Besides impairments to comfort and performance, harm to the hand-arm system, possibly permanent, must be prevented as a matter of priority. In a world of work that is becoming more and more complex, combined exposures are also becoming increasingly relevant. What influence does hand-arm vibration have in conjunction with noise or whole-body vibration? What contribution can be made by medicine, diagnostics, epidemiology, measurement technology and prevention to the identification and containment of risks, and better still, to their elimination? What is the role of international regulatory activity in this context? The 14th International Conference on Hand-Arm Vibration aimed to address these and many other questions concerning hand-arm vibration, and to find answers relevant to the field.

Book Assessments of Vibratory Handheld Tools and Handle Interactions

Download or read book Assessments of Vibratory Handheld Tools and Handle Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a broad history of injuries occurring as the result of vibratory hand-tool use. Following these findings, three human safety standards have been proposed. These standards declare that the dynamic properties with respect to acceleration frequency spectra must be determined for vibratory hand tools. These properties must meet specific tolerances in order to be considered acceptable for use. The standards, however, do not recognize the significance of the coupling characteristics and the energy transfer between the user and vibrating handle. This interaction reveals the amount of vibratory energy that enters the user's hands. Epidemiological data for VWF shows that certain zones of the hand are first affected causing the onset of disease. Hence vibration is most severe at specific locations on the hand. The aim of this study was to measure the coupling forces on the hand during the operation of several tool types in real-world working conditions. Simultaneous measurements of force and acceleration were examined in order to determine similarities and differences of the resulting frequency spectra. Transfer functions were used to validate these relationships although non-linearity of the hand system may reduce the values of coherence. In addition, force variations at the finger and palm with respect to coupling dynamics and hand geometry were assessed. Finally, the reliability of the resistive-based force instrumentation system used in this study to produce accurate and repeatable measurements was assessed.
