Book Tchaikovsky Variation on a Rococo Theme Op 33

Download or read book Tchaikovsky Variation on a Rococo Theme Op 33 written by Yu-Hsuan Lee and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Variations on Rococo Theme," op. 33, is a concerto-type work for cello which is considered one of the most technically demanding pieces in the standard repertoire. The piece was dedicated to Wilhelm Fitzenhagen in 1876. In the nearly 150 years since then, this piece has existed in three versions: Tchaikovsky and Fitzenhagen (regarded as the "original" version), Tchaikovsky and Fitzenhagen with a slightly revised ending to the last variation, and the "Fitzenhagen" version which is the most heavily edited and has one variation removed entirely (MacGregor, 2001). However, until now, the most popular version that cellists have performed is the third of these, the Fitzenhagen re-ordered version. It is curious for me that the version by Tchaikovsky's order was not the first choice for performance. Therefore, this creative project is to research its uncertain history, clarify the order of variations, and analysis differences in two versions. By clarifying the history and examining the order of the variations in this piece, this project also will help cello professors and students on the whole understanding for the interpretation of Tchaikovsky Rococo variation.

Book The Cambridge Companion to the Cello

Download or read book The Cambridge Companion to the Cello written by Robin Stowell and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-06-28 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a compact, composite and authoritative survey of the history and development of the cello and its repertory since the origins of the instrument. The volume comprises thirteen essays, written by a team of nine distinguished scholars and performers, and is intended to develop the cello's historical perspective in breadth and from every relevant angle, offering as comprehensive a coverage as possible. It focuses in particular on four principal areas: the instrument's structure, development and fundamental acoustical principles; the careers of the most distinguished cellists since the baroque era; the cello repertory (including chapters devoted to the concerto, the sonata, other solo repertory, and ensemble music); and its technique, teaching methods and relevant aspects of historical and performance practice. It is the most comprehensive book ever to be published about the instrument and provides essential information for performers, students and teachers.
