Book Current Issues in Descriptive Linguistics and Digital Humanities

Download or read book Current Issues in Descriptive Linguistics and Digital Humanities written by Moses Effiong Ekpenyong and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a convergence of heterogeneous insights (from languages and literature, history, music, media and communications, computer science and information studies) which previously went their separate ways; now unified under a single framework for the purpose of preserving a unique heritage, the language. In a growing society like ours, description and documentation of human and scientific evidence/resources are improving. However, these resources have enjoyed cost-effective solutions for Western languages but are yet to flourish for African tone languages. By situating discussions around a universe of discourse, sufficient to engender cross-border interactions within the African context, this book shall break a dichotomy of challenges on adaptive processes required to unify resources to assist the development of modern solutions for the African domain.

Book Media and Communication in Nigeria

Download or read book Media and Communication in Nigeria written by Bruce Mutsvairo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-31 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Communication is changing rapidly around the world, particularly in Africa, where citizens are embracing digital technologies not only to improve not only interpersonal communication but also the state of their financial well-being. This book investigates these transformations in Nigeria’s booming communication industry. The book traces communications in Nigeria back to pre-colonial indigenous communications, through the development of telecommunication, broadcasting networks, the press, the Nigerian film industry (‘Nollywood’) and on to the digital era. At a time when Western voices still dominate the academic literature on communication in Africa, this book is noteworthy in drawing almost exclusively on the expertise of Nigerian-based authors, critiquing the discipline from their own lens and providing an important contribution to the decolonisation of communication studies. The authors provide a holistic analysis of the sector, encompassing print journalism, broadcast journalism, public relations, advertising, film, development communication, organisational communication and strategic communication. Analysis of the role of digital technologies is woven throughout the book, concluding with a final section theorising the future of communication studies in Nigeria in the light of the digital media revolution. Robust in its theoretical and methodological underpinnings, this book will be an important reference for researchers of media and communication studies, and those working on Africa specifically.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: African Political Philosophy has come to dismiss the bogey myth of non-existence of the great and noble ideas of African philosophy, African theology and African history. It has rather come to justify the reality and existence of African philosophy espoused in the early 1970s by people like Professor Innocent Onyewuenyi who propounded the notion of Egyptian-African origin of Greek philosophy. This has also added to its academic merit and market potential. It is indeed a necessary addition to the growing volumes of brilliant books by a number of indigenous African scholars and writers. Book Language and the Construction of Multiple Identities in the Nigerian Novel

Download or read book Language and the Construction of Multiple Identities in the Nigerian Novel written by Romanus Aboh and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2018-12-28 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Language and the construction of multiple identities in the Nigerian novel examines the multifaceted relation between people and the various identities they construct for themselves and for others through the context-specific ways they use language. Specifically, this book pays attention to how forms of identities ethnic, cultural, national and gender are constructed through the use of language in select novels of Adichie, Atta and Betiang. Employing an interdisciplinary approach, this book draws analytical insights from critical discourse analysis, literary discourse analysis and socio-ethno-linguistic analysis. This approach enables the author to engage with the novels, to illuminate the link between the ways Nigerians use language and the identities they construct. Being a context-driven analysis, this book critically scrutinises literary language beyond stylistic borders by interrogating the micro and macro levels of language use, a core analytical paradigm frequently used by discourse analysts who engage in critical discourse analysis.

Download or read book Anonymous Power written by Okechukwu Ibeanu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-28 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the structures and processes of political decision-making and governance in Nigeria. Since Nigeria returned to elected government in 1999, it has been observed that several factors account for the differences between the design of statutory structures and processes of political decision-making and how they operate in reality. In other words, there are wide gaps between statutes and practice of political decision-making. However, the nexus between the two remains largely understudied by political scientists. Instinctively, political scientists assume that informal influences in political decision-making are aberrations, episodic or temporary. This book is designed to interrogate the nexus between the formal and non-formal dimensions of the dynamics of political decision making in Nigeria and also provide evidence about the actual functioning of governmental structures in Nigeria. The thesis of the book is that the non-formal dimension of political decision making as evidenced in rising ethno-political patronages, religious sentiments, clientelism and factionalism, are interacting with formal decision-making structures in ways that largely undermine the latter and, by extension, the democratic system. The book pursues this thesis by examining the roles of actors and institutions including, electoral choices made by voters, legislations, which perhaps is the most fundamental form of political decision-making, policies made by the executive and administration, as well as decision making within political parties, since parties are sites for articulating and aggregating issues on which decisions are to be made.

Book Re imagining African Christologies

Download or read book Re imagining African Christologies written by Victor I. Ezigbo and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-02-08 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Who do you say that I am" (Mark 8:29) is the question of Christology. By asking this question, Jesus invites his followers to interpret him from within their own contexts-history, experience, and social location. Therefore, all responses to Jesus's invitation are contextual. But for too long, many theologians particularly in the West have continued to see Christology as a universal endeavor that is devoid of any contextual influences. This understanding of Christology undermines Jesus's expectations from us to imagine and appropriate him from within our own contexts. In Re-imagining African Christologies, Victor I. Ezigbo presents a constructive exposition of the unique ways that many African theologians and lay Christians from various church denominations have interpreted and appropriated Jesus Christ in their own contexts. He also articulates the constructive contributions that these African Christologies can make to the development of Christological discourse in non-African Christian communities.
