    Book Details:
  • Author : Anthony Clarke
  • Publisher : OUP Oxford
  • Release : 2014-11-27
  • ISBN : 0191019461
  • Pages : 296 pages

Download or read book Within the Love of God written by Anthony Clarke and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2014-11-27 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The doctrine of God is central to theology for it determines the way in which other regions of Christian doctrine are articulated, yet work on this topic in its own right has been occluded recently by treatments of the Trinity or divine passibility. This collection of specially commissioned essays presents major treatments of key themes in the doctrine of God, motivated by but not restricted to the work of Professor Paul S. Fiddes to whom it is offered as a Festschrift. It includes invigorating discussions of the biblical and non-biblical sources for the doctrine of God, and the section on 'Metaphysics and the Doctrine of God' examines some of the most important conceptual questions arising in contemporary theological debate about the being and nature of God, and God's relations to the world. The final section of the book on 'God and Humanity' will be highly relevant to scholars working in the fields of theological anthropology, moral and political theology, on inter-faith relations, on theology and literature, or who are interested in the impact of contemporary science on the doctrine of God. The introduction relates the essays in the book to the work of Professor Fiddes and to wider debates in Christian doctrine. This volume brings together a team of internationally distinguished scholars from a wide range of theological, philosophical, and religious perspectives, and it will stimulate fresh thinking and new debate about this most central of topics in Christian theology.

Book Gender and Well Being

Download or read book Gender and Well Being written by Paloma de Villota and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provisioning for basic human needs is done in three main kind of institutions: the familial household; the commercial enterprise selling goods and services; the institutions of the Welfare State that provide education, medical care and other goods and personal services to all or to some specific groups of citizens in need. The purpose of this book is to study the interplay of these institutions and their impact on well-being, and to analyze key policies and measures that have been implemented in European countries. Institutions determine labour demand (men and women are hired by the institutions of the Welfare State or by market providers of care), the possibilities of consumption (wages earned can be used to buy goods and services only if such goods and services are provided by the market) and allocate people's time, in particular women's time, between paid work and unpaid domestic production and provision of care, shaping both the gender relations and time use of people of both sexes. The proper balance of these institutions is a prerequisite of well-being both of the care givers and of the care receivers, and also for satisfactory gender relations. The chapters in this book focus on the following sub-topics: gender and welfare regimes; gender, well-being and the provision of care in the family and the household; and gender and well-being in the labour market. They emphasise the interdependence of social and labour market policies in the context of fundamental changes in both working patterns (the increase in female labour-force participation rates) and social needs (including population ageing) and demonstrate that we need a more integrated approach to welfare policy which takes account not only of basic welfare entitlements, but also the need for supportive forms of service provision and employment regulation.

Book What s Love Got to Do With It

Download or read book What s Love Got to Do With It written by Dr. John Chirban and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2012-06-04 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having trouble talking to your kids about sex? Their friends at school don't... Unfortunately, for many parents, the most important conversations are the hardest. Ninety-three percent of adults are dissatisfied with the sex education they received as children, which is precisely why they are so bad at teaching their kids-they have no frame of reference. Renowned Harvard Medical School psychologist and frequent Dr. Phil guest John Chirban helps parents talk to their kids . . . about sex. Kids are going to learn about sex, and it is up to parents to decide if their kids are going to learn from them or from MTV. How parents address sex—their openness, the context, and their attitudes—will impact how their children view their own sexuality and self worth. Dr. Chirban helps parents know when, how, and how much. He uses humor, compassion, and real-life examples to prepare parents for a healthy and ongoing conversation that will equip their kids to own their own sexuality and an understanding of the larger issues of relationships, love, commitment, and intimacy. In addition, parents understand how helping their children understand these veiled yet critical keys of a fulfilling life deepens their own connection with their children.

Book The Romance of the Rose

Download or read book The Romance of the Rose written by Guillaume (de Lorris) and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1995-07-23 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many English-speaking readers of the Roman de la rose, the famous dream allegory of the thirteenth century, have come to rely on Charles Dahlberg's elegant and precise translation of the Old French text. His line-by-line rendering in contemporary English is available again, this time in a third edition with an updated critical apparatus. Readers at all levels can continue to deepen their understanding of this rich tale about the Lover and his quest--against the admonishments of Reason and the obstacles set by Jealousy and Resistance--to pluck the fair Rose in the Enchanted Garden. The original introduction by Dahlberg remains an excellent overview of the work, covering such topics as the iconographic significance of the imagery and the use of irony in developing the central theme of love. His new preface reviews selected scholarship through 1990, which examines, for example, the sources and influences of the work, the two authors, the nature of the allegorical narrative as a genre, the use of first person, and the poem's early reception. The new bibliographic material incorporates that of the earlier editions. The sixty-four miniature illustrations from thirteenth-and fifteenth-century manuscripts are retained, as are the notes keyed to the Langlois edition, on which the translation is based.
