Book excerpt: La connaissance et l'appréciation de la fertilité des sols agricoles passent par l'analyse au laboratoire pour connaitre la composition, la productivité, la durabilité, la santé, et la sécurité des sols agricoles. Or la qualité de ces analyses impacte fortement tout le système de diagnostic des sols et de recommandation des pratiques agricoles durables dont essentiellement la fertilisation et les amendements. Pour instaurer un système garantissant une qualité accrue de caractérisation des sols, cinq laboratoires du Québec dont trois accrédités et deux laboratoires de recherches non accrédités ont participé à cette étude. L'objectif général était d'identifier les sources principales de variations des résultats de caractérisation des sols, de quantifier leurs amplitudes et de proposer des recommandations pour les contrôler. Ainsi trois objectifs spécifiques ont fait l'objet de cette étude doctorale : i) Un premier objectif spécifique consistait à évaluer l'effet des techniques de préparation des échantillons de sols (TPÉ) de cinq laboratoires du Québec sur la reproductibilité inter-laboratoires de TPÉ, réplicabilité intra-laboratoire de TPÉ et répétabilité intra-laboratoire d'analyse des sols selon une ANOVA à structure nichée. Les résultats de ce premier objectif de recherche ont montré des variations significatives inacceptables du pHeau, P[indice M3], Al[indice M3], (ISP)[indice M3], Ca[indice M3], Mg[indice M3], MO, Mn[indice M3], K[indice M3] et Cu[indice M3] dues à la température de séchage et à la distribution granulométrique différentes d'un laboratoire à un autre. Cet objectif de recherche démontre qu'au Québec, les méthodes de préparation des sols avant analyse doivent être standardisées, sans quoi il ne sera pas possible d'obtenir des données fiables pour les plans agroenvironnementaux de fertilisation et de recyclage (PAEF et PAER); ii) Un deuxième objectif spécifique portait sur l'effet de la saisonnalité d'échantillonnage sur la représentativité des indicateurs de fertilité des sols agricoles. En se servant de deux outils : de statistiques descriptives et de décomposition des séries chronologiques, on a observé un effet saisonnier essentiellement, pour deux indicateurs P[indice M3] et (ISP)[indice M3]. Cet effet saisonnier a limité le calendrier d'échantillonnage aux cinq premières semaines du printemps jusqu'à la fin mai et à toute la période de l'automne, à partir du début septembre; et iii) Un troisième objectif spécifique proposait un outil intra-laboratoire de suivi de surveillance et de contrôle de qualité de 11 indicateurs de fertilité des sols. Les limites d'erreur intra-laboratoire de surveillance trouvées étaient de 6,9% pour P[indice M3]; 6,1% pour K[indice M3]; 4,6% pour Ca[indice M3] et Mg[indice M3]; 4,7% pour Al[indice M3]; 6,5% pour Mn[indice M3]; 6,6% pour Fe[indice M3]; 5,5% pour (ISP)[indice M3]; 1,5% pour pHeau 1,0% pour pH[indice SMP] et 7,5% pour MO. Les limites d'erreur intra-laboratoire d'action trouvées étaient de 9,2% pour P[indice M3]; 8,1% pour K[indice M3]; 6,1% pour Ca[indice M3] et Mg[indice M3]; 6,4% pour Al[indice M3]; 8,8% pour Mn[indice M3]; 8,9% pour Fe[indice M3]; 7,4% pour (ISP)[indice M3]; 2,0% pour pHeau 1,3% pour pH[indice SMP] et 10,1% pour MO. Pour ces 11 indicateurs de fertilité les limites intra-laboratoire sont inférieures aux limites inter-laboratoires établies par le CEAEQ.
