Book Fatigue and Tribological Properties of Plastics and Elastomers

Download or read book Fatigue and Tribological Properties of Plastics and Elastomers written by Laurence W. McKeen and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2016-03-31 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part of a series of data-rich handbooks within the Plastics Design Library, Fatigue and Tribological Properties of Plastics and Elastomers provides a comprehensive collection of graphical multipoint data and tabular data covering the fatigue and tribological performance of plastics. The handbook is structured by grouping together plastics of similar polymer types into ten chapters. Each of these chapters is split into two sections: Fatigue Properties and Tribological Properties, and together they provide a compendium of several hundred graphs and charts, supplying the core data needed by engineers and scientists on a day-to-day basis. The data for this third edition has been updated to cover upwards of five years since the previous edition was published, and also includes an entirely new chapter covering sustainable and biodegradable polymers. The book also includes an extensive introductory section covering fatigue, what it is and how it is measured; the fundamentals of tribology; polymer chemistry and plastics composition. These chapters also provide readers with a full understanding of the data section, and how to put it to use as a hard-working information tool.

Book Tribology of Elastomers

Download or read book Tribology of Elastomers written by Ferial Hakami and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-07-20 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the tribological behavior of elastomers by investigating the effect of operating variables such as, the applied load and the abrasive particle size, and the materials’ mechanical properties such as, tensile strength, elongation at break, hardness, and tear strength by the experimental, statistical and analytical methods. It is found that the wear mechanism is mostly friction wear, which is mixed with fatigue wear and abrading under higher applied loads or larger abrasives. The statistical method shows that the abrasive particle size has the highest contribution followed by the applied load on the wear process. Wear equation is developed to predict the wear rate considering the trends of the input variables.

Book Viscoelastic Machine Elements

Download or read book Viscoelastic Machine Elements written by D F MOORE and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Viscoelastic Machine Elements, which encompass elastomeric elements (rubber-like components), fluidic elements (lubricating squeeze films) and their combinations, are used for absorbing vibration, reducing friction and improving energy use. Examplesinclude pneumatic tyres, oil and lip seals, compliant bearings and races, and thin films. This book sets out to show that these elements can be incorporated in machine analysis, just as in the case of conventional elements (e.g. gears, cogs, chaindrives, bearings). This is achieved by introducing elementary theory and models, by describing new and established experimental techniques for determining viscoelastic properties, and finally by working through actual examples. 'This very reasonablypriced book is full of valuable information not readily available from other sources on a subject which is the eminent author's speciality.' - Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, April 1995

Book Materials for Tribology

Download or read book Materials for Tribology written by William Glaeser and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-05-07 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides an extensive reference source on the materials used in tribological applications. Materials used in tribological applications are, for the most part, common materials used for general engineering applications. Many conventional engineering materials have been adapted to tribological uses and examples of these are given throughout the text. Literature that so far has been scattered and difficult to retrieve is now presented for the first time in this comprehensive treatise. The author has used his expertise in selecting materials for a wide variety of friction and wear applications to develop this data base on materials for tribology. In addition information has been selected from the literature on the behaviour of these materials in bearings, seals, gears, brakes, clutches, wire rope, valves, cams and wear surfaces and is included in the descriptive text. The materials have been grouped in families, relating to their composition. A short table is provided at the beginning of each chapter, listing the ranges of selected properties for the materials under discussion. In addition there are short summaries of the tribological applications this class of materials is used for. On the first page of each chapter one can find a guide for the selection of materials. Sufficient references to the literature are given to enable the reader to follow up in more detail the various topics discussed.
