Book Walks Tracks and Trails of New South Wales

Download or read book Walks Tracks and Trails of New South Wales written by Derrick Stone and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time in a single volume, this book brings together more than 140 of the best walks, tracks or trails in New South Wales, which can be walked by the moderately fit individual. They are located in national parks, coastal parks, state forests, conservation reserves, historic parks and local government and public easements. Other routes follow state highways, minor roads, coastal cliffs, old gold routes, or pass bushranger haunts and back roads linking towns and historical features. Most routes do not require specialist navigation or bushcraft skills, and vary in length from a 45-minute stroll to a 4-day, 65-kilometre camping trip. Walks, Tracks and Trails of New South Wales highlights the best the state has to offer, from an outback ghost town and ancient lake beds, to Australia’s highest mountain, coastal environments and World Heritage rainforests. Easy-to-interpret maps are included to help you navigate, and the book’s size makes it convenient to bring with you on your adventures.

Book Top Walks in New South Wales

Download or read book Top Walks in New South Wales written by Ken Eastwood and published by Hardie Grant Publishing. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New South Wales offers some of the best bushwalks in Australia, with fascinating natural and man-made treasures hidden along its tracks and trails. There are World Heritage–listed rainforests, convict relics, colonies of wombats, the largest area of movable sand on the east coast and a mountain that has been burning for 6000 years. There are walks to snow-covered mountains, through volcanic landscapes and to remote beaches that few people visit. How does this guidebook differ from the rest? Experienced travel writer Ken Eastwood has completed every track and reminds us that bushwalking is an activity for almost anyone. Most of the tracks covered can be completed in a few hours, but there are some tougher multi-day walks for those wanting a greater challenge. For each walk, there is detailed trail information, a map and photographs of what you’ll see along the way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human settlement has often centered around coastal areas and waterways. Until recently, however, archaeologists believed that marine economies did not develop until the end of the Pleistocene, when the archaeological record begins to have evidence of marine life as part of the human diet. This has long been interpreted as a postglacial adaptation, due to the rise in sea level and subsequent decrease in terrestrial resources. Coastal resources, particularly mollusks, were viewed as fallback resources, which people resorted to only when terrestrial resources were scarce, included only as part of a more complex diet. Recent research has significantly altered this understanding, known as the Broad Spectrum Revolution (BSR) model. The contributions to this volume revise the BSR model, with evidence that coastal resources were an important part of human economies and subsistence much earlier than previously thought, and even the main focus of diets for some Pleistocene and early Holocene hunter-gatherer societies. With evidence from North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, this volume comprehensively lends a new understanding to coastal settlement from the Middle Paleolithic to the Middle Holocene.

Book The Best Walks Trails in NSW

Download or read book The Best Walks Trails in NSW written by Sean Greenhill and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With over 900 reserves under National Parks and Wildlife Service management and uncounted tracks, trails and reserves under local management, New South Wales presents a world of diverse and intriguing walking opportunities. This book aims to capture the diversity of the walks on offer, including walks of cultural significance, walks that showcase the diversity of landscapes, vegetation, wildlife and birdlife. The authors have included walks with some history, culture or further interest points attached and provided some insight into these aspects of the walk. Too often we have finished a walk only to realise we have missed an important aspect of what the location had to offer. The focus is on walks of 2-3 hours in duration. Keep in mind some walks may take longer if you stop to swim, gaze at whales, bird watch, read information boards or just picnic at a good vantage spot along the way -- all of which is highly recommended. The walks chosen for inclusion in the book can be achieved with average fitness, and also included are a few more challenging walks that can be tackled after some more experience on the trails. Each walk is graded, indicating the level of difficulty, using the Australian Walking Track Grading System (AWTGS).
