Download or read book Dana s New Mineralogy written by James Dwight Dana and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1997-11-10 with total page 1884 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following in the tradition of the "System of Mineralogy" introduced by Wiley in 1837, this one-of-a-kind reference brings mineralogy into the 21st century. It describes all of the over 3700 recognized mineral species. New features include emphasis on mineral structure, presenting descriptions of all the important species. New specially commissioned structure diagrams describe all the important mineral groups. All homologous species are classified and all polymorphic forms identified. Compact and convenient in one volume, it offers exceptional coverage on where minerals can be found and accurate, up-to-date references.
Download or read book Industrial Mineralogy written by Luke L. Y. Chang and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For an undergraduate-level course in industrial mineralogy. This text bridges the gap between the basics of mineralogy and the applications of mineral-based materials. Over forty minerals and mineral groups are correlated among basic mineralogical properties, geological occurrence, distribution of deposits, industrial processes, and uses so that each industrial mineral is fully defined. Industrial Mineralogy introduces students to the fundamentals of industrial minerals as a foundation to build a professional career and provides professionals in mineral industries with a valuable reference for research and development. *Each mineral is characterized by crystal structure and chemical composition - The two most basic and important properties that define the minerals industrial applications. *Each beneficiation process is described in basic terms rather than lengthy details. *Description of ore deposits including classic ones are cited because they represent standard occurrences. *Comprehensive references are given for each industrial mineral.

Download or read book Introduction to Mineralogy written by Carl W. Correns and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this book has been out of print for seven years. The ques tion as to whether a new edition should be produced was answered affirmatively on many counts. I think that the considerations which led me to write this book in 1949 are still valid (see Preface to the First Edition). Moreover, a description of those areas of interest which together comprise the field of Mineralogy seems to be more necessary than ever, because of the rapid advances which have been made. Due to the rapid extension of our knowledge, I did not dare again to treat the whole field by myself. Accordingly, Professor ZEMANN kindly agreed to revise the first part of the book dealing with Crystallography. He made many important corrections. In Part II the basic question arose as to whether the physical-chemical approach to rock forming processes, becoming more and more important, required inclusive treatment of the fundamentals of physical chemistry in the book. I see certain dangers in trying to produce a petrology text which is physical chemically self-sufficient. Thus, I retain the same opinion which prevailed when I wrote the previous edition; namely that the necessary basic knowledge should be acquired in lectures and laboratory classes in physics, chemistry, and physical chemistry, and with the help of standard literature dealing with these subjects. This back ground is, therefore, presumed and fundamentals are only referred to occasionally.
