This book was released on 2016-01-04 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manufacturing and Novel Applications of Multilayer Polymer Films discusses the advancements in multilayer technology, including its capability to produce hundreds of layers in a single film by a melt coextrusion process. These engineered films can have significantly enhanced performance properties, allowing films to be made thinner, stronger, and with better sealing properties. As recent developments in feedblocks and materials have opened up a range of new possibilities, this book discusses different feedblocks, and viscosity and material considerations. It is the first comprehensive summary of the latest technology in multilayer film processing and related applications, and is written from a practical perspective, translating research into commercial production and real world products. The book provides fundamental knowledge on microlayer coextrusion processing technology, how to fabricate such structures, structure and properties of such microlayers, and potential applications, thus helping research scientists and engineers develop products which not only fulfill their primary function, but can also be manufactured reliably, safely, and economically. Provides a fundamental knowledge of microlayer coextrusion processing, including how to fabricate microlayer structures, the properties of microlayers, and potential applications, including optics, polymer film capacitors, and semiconductors Includes an in-depth analysis of all technologies used for producing multilayered films and structures by coextrusion processing Thoroughly assesses potential future trends in multilayer coextrusion technology, thus enabling engineers and scientists to stay ahead of the curve in this rapidly advancing area

Book Thin Film Growth Techniques for Low Dimensional Structures

Download or read book Thin Film Growth Techniques for Low Dimensional Structures written by R.F.C. Farrow and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work represents the account of a NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Thin Film Growth Techniques for Low Dimensional Structures", held at the University of Sussex, Brighton, England from 15-19 Sept. 1986. The objective of the workshop was to review the problems of the growth and characterisation of thin semiconductor and metal layers. Recent advances in deposition techniques have made it possible to design new material which is based on ultra-thin layers and this is now posing challenges for scientists, technologists and engineers in the assessment and utilisation of such new material. Molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) has become well established as a method for growing thin single crystal layers of semiconductors. Until recently, MBE was confined to the growth of III-V compounds and alloys, but now it is being used for group IV semiconductors and II-VI compounds. Examples of such work are given in this volume. MBE has one major advantage over other crystal growth techniques in that the structure of the growing layer can be continuously monitored using reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED). This technique has offered a rare bonus in that the time dependent intensity variations of RHEED can be used to determine growth rates and alloy composition rather precisely. Indeed, a great deal of new information about the kinetics of crystal growth from the vapour phase is beginning to emerge.

Book Magnetic Multilayers

Download or read book Magnetic Multilayers written by Lawrence H Bennett and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-12-16 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on an increasingly important area of materials science and technology, namely, the fabrication and properties of artificial materials where slabs of magnetized materials are sandwiched between slabs of nonmagnetized materials. It includes reviews by experts on the theory and descriptions of the various experimental techniques such as those using nuclear or electron spin probes, as well as optical, X-ray or neutron probes. It also reviews potential applications such as the giant magnetoresistance, and one specialized preparation technique, the electrodeposition. The various chapters are tutorial in nature, making the subject accessible to nonspecialists, as well as useful to researchers in the field.

Book Multilayer Thin Films

Download or read book Multilayer Thin Films written by Gero Decher and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-03-06 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials scientists are often faced with the problem of modifying surfaces of objects, yet keeping their shape and properties. This book provides a detailed survey on the new technology of adsorption from solution for the fabrication of molecularly ordered multicomposite films in order to replace and expand on the well known Langmuir-Blodgett technology and to open the field of molecular self-assembly to materials and biosciences. The book is aimed at scientists who want to integrate several different functional entities in a single device. To this audience it presents the technique of layer-by-layer assembly as today's most powerful key technology, which is low cost, solution based and very robust. It is already beginning to make the transition from academic research into industrial mass production.

Book Physics Fabrication and Applications of Multilayered Structures

Download or read book Physics Fabrication and Applications of Multilayered Structures written by Claude Weisbuch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low-dimensional materials are of fundamental interest in physics and chemistry and have also found a wide variety of technological applica tions in fields ranging from microelectronics to optics. Since 1986, several seminars and summer schools devoted to low-dimensional systems have been supported by NATO. The present one, Physics, Fabrication and Applications of Multilayered structures, brought together specialists from different fields in order to review fabrication techniques, charac terization methods, physics and applications. Artificially layered materials are attractive because alternately layering two (or more) elements, by evaporation or sputtering, is a way to obtain new materials with (hopefully) new physical properties that pure materials or alloys do not allow. These new possibilities can be ob tained in electronic transport, optics, magnetism or the reflectivity of x-rays and slow neutrons. By changing the components and the thickness of the layers one can track continuously how the new properties appear and follow the importance of the multilayer structure of the materials. In addition, with their large number of interfaces the study of inter face properties becomes easier in multilayered structures than in mono layers or bilayers. As a rule, the role of the interface quality, and also the coupling between layers, increases as the thickness of the layer decreases. Several applications at the development stage require layer thicknesses of just a few atomic layers.
