Book Switching Dynamics of Bistable Fluid Amplifiers

Download or read book Switching Dynamics of Bistable Fluid Amplifiers written by Mustafa R. Ozgu and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes an experimental investigation of the transient switching of bistable amplifiers with low setbacks and variable configuration. The experimental observations were used to establish the mechanism of the switching action which was then used to guide the development of a theoretical model for the first two phases of the contacting-both-walls type of switching. The theory is based on the flow model for a two-dimensional jet attaching to an adjacent side-wall. The amplifier was of conventional design with straight and curved side-walls, cusped and pointed splitters and variable control port width. The power jet width was 3/4 in. and two aspect ratios, 3 and 1, were tested. Water was used as the fluid and the element was operated at three different Reynolds numbers based on the power nozzle width - 8000, 5000 and 2000. The control flow was always a step or pulse and it was varied from a maximum, i. e., Q sub c = Q sub o, to a minimum beyond which no switching could be initiated. Effects of loading, inertia of the fluid in the output legs and residual flows from the inactive control port were determined. Load changes were simulated by reducing the exit area of the output legs using a flat plate orifice. The flow field was made visible by generating hydrogen bubbles in the power nozzle and at the power nozzle exit. (Author).

Book Experimental Study of the Switching Characteristics of Bistable Amplifiers in the Turbulent Flow Regime

Download or read book Experimental Study of the Switching Characteristics of Bistable Amplifiers in the Turbulent Flow Regime written by Guy Bekaert and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A parametric investigation was conducted on a large scale model of a wall attachment bistable amplifier, with the object of measuring the switching times, as well as the steady state pressure distributions on the bistable walls and at the bistable output. As a first approach bistable configurations having no vents or splitter but only two straight attachment walls of variable length, set-back and angle, have been studied. Experimental data was obtained from oscilloscope recordings of velocities and pressure measured in the control and output channels of the bistable, following the application of a step signal in the control port. Tests were conducted for two different aspect ratios of the amplifier, and for control ports open and closed. The results are expected to prove useful for future comparisons with available theories of bistable switching, and for an experimental optimization of the bistable amplifier, made by taking into account not only its steady state but also its dynamic behaviour. Book An Experimental Study of the Switching Dynamics of Monostable Fluid Amplifiers

Download or read book An Experimental Study of the Switching Dynamics of Monostable Fluid Amplifiers written by Mustafa R. Ozgu and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transient switching times of monostable fluid amplifiers were determined experimentally using a large model with a power nozzle width W of 3/4 in. Straight and convex attachment walls of equal length were tested. Water was used as the fluid and the flow field was made visible by generating hydrogen bubbles at the power nozzle exit. Three different Reynolds numbers based on W were used. The control slow was applied as a step, starting from an initial value of zero. Effects of attachment wall shape, opposite wall setback, control flow, load changes on the active output leg, Reynolds number and splitter position on the transient switching times were studied. It was desired to know whether the convex attachment wall provided better switching characteristics than the straight attachment wall.

Book Study of the Switching Mechanism in Bistable Amplifiers with Application to Their Development Optimization and Construction

Download or read book Study of the Switching Mechanism in Bistable Amplifiers with Application to Their Development Optimization and Construction written by M. Carbonaro and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed experimental and theoretical study of the flow field in the interaction region of a fluidic wall-attachment amplifier was made. Velocity profiles were measured using a laser doppler velocimeter. A mathematical model of the flow was also established, using an integral method. Reasonable agreement between theory and experiments was obtained. As a continuation of previous work, the design of two bistable amplifiers, operating respectively with turbulent and with laminar flow, was optimized. A simplified chemical etching technique was established for the manufacture of such fluidic elements. (Author).

Book Design Theory of Fluidic Components

Download or read book Design Theory of Fluidic Components written by Joseph M. Kirshner and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1975-01-28 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design Theory of Fluidic Components is an 11-chapter text that discusses the most pertinent results of fluidics research and in closely related fields. After providing an overview of the basic components and design theory of fluidics, this book goes on exploring the passive fluid components and the theory of jets. The following chapters specifically deal with the factors that give rise to lumped resistance, capacitance, and inductance, as well as the fluid transients in lines. These topics are followed by discussions on various jet velocity distributions and a simplified theory of motion of jets in a pressure gradient. The remaining six chapters are devoted to the active fluidic components, and begin with an examination of the characteristic curves that are necessary to describe the performance of the active components. These chapters also cover the extent to which the performance of specific fluidic components can be predicted analytically. This book is of great value to fluidic research engineers and graduate mechanical engineering students.
