Book Relationship of Emotional Intelligence with Transformational Leadership and Organizational Citizenship Behavior

Download or read book Relationship of Emotional Intelligence with Transformational Leadership and Organizational Citizenship Behavior written by Tripti Singh and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manuscript examines the relationship of emotional intelligence (El) with transformational leadership (TL) and organizational citizenship behavior (OeB) of the followers. A sample of 57 dyads of managers and their supervisors (i.e. 114 respondents) participated in this study. The reliabilities of the scales were - OeB(0.83), TL (0.88), and El (0.86). El was significantly correlated to conscientiousness, civic virtue, and altruistic behaviors of followers. The method suggested by Barron and Kenny (1986) was used to test mediation of EI between TL and OeB but nothing significant was found. The results indicate that emotional intelligence of leaders enhances the OeB of followers. However, EI of the leader may not be the only factor determining the perception of TL.

Book Emotions and Leadership in Organizations and Educational Institutes

Download or read book Emotions and Leadership in Organizations and Educational Institutes written by Osman Titrek and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-28 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emotion management is an important source of social capital and synergy for organizations. Managers have a great role in the creation of this synergy. A manager who can cope with their emotions indirectly contributes to organizational effectiveness. This situation is especially important in human-oriented organizations providing services rather than goods, such as educational institutions. Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others towards the achievement of a goal. Leadership stems from social influence rather than authority or power. In terms of system approach, the input, output, process, and feedback of educational organizations are always related to human behaviors. Therefore, organizations must address the nature of human beings in all of their managerial processes. Although organizations, in which people are at the foreground, try to continue their functioning on a rational and formal basis throughout the managerial process, they sometimes have to manage emotional and informal phenomena. In this case, there is a need for managers and school leaders who can shape the rationale in line with the requirements of human nature. What is expected from this administrator is that they do not ignore human needs and emotions while providing the management of educational institutions. For this reason, these managers should be "leaders" rather than "executives" who only work in a formal framework of organization management. Moreover, principals and teachers should also be leaders in all educational processes. Emotions are the main catalyst of positive organizational culture. Leaders can create an effective organizational culture with the main source of positive emotions between employers. Positive emotions also motivate employees for organizational purposes. If a leader wishes to create and maintain an effective organizational culture, it is essential to support positive behavior and emotional climate in their institutes and schools. Leaders-school-managers and teachers, therefore, need to develop emotion management abilities. Educational organizations need to shape their organizational culture, climate, and psychology to support their leaders in efficiently managing their employees’ emotions. Up to now, this topic has been usually addressed as the main catalyst and a sub-dimension of emotional intelligence. Moreover, current evidence classifies social and empathy skills as other sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence. For this reason, this collection of peer-reviewed articles will draw attention to the contemporary term "emotional management" and contribute to educational fields by means of exploring the relationship between emotions and leadership.

Book Impact of Leader s Emotional Intelligence on Sub Ordinates Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Task Performance

Download or read book Impact of Leader s Emotional Intelligence on Sub Ordinates Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Task Performance written by Maha Shamim and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research was conducted with a core objective to study the relationship between leaders' emotional intelligence, organizational culture, and sub-ordinates' OCB and task performance. A theoretical framework is proposed modifying Miao et al. (2018) model to include a mediating role of organizational culture between leaders' emotional intelligence and sub-ordinates' OCB and task performance. To measure, organizational culture, we used the competing values framework, which classifies the organizational culture into four types i.e. Clan, Adhocracy, Hierarchy and Market Culture. A direct relationship between subordinates' OCB and task performance is also studied in this research. Emotional intelligence was measured through different dimensions namely self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social awareness, and relationship management. To assess its empirical validity, a survey was conducted from 200 managers, working in different sectors of Pakistan. The data was collected by means of a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed by using Smart PLS Software. The results from the responses gathered show that Leader's Emotional Intelligence has a significant impact on Organizational Culture, as well as on Sub-Ordinates' OCB and Task Performance. By analyzing the responses, it has been found that Clan, Adhocracy and Market Culture have a strong and significant impact on Sub-Ordinates' OCB and Task Performance. Whereas, Hierarchy Culture didn't show a significant impact on Sub-Ordinates' OCB but it has an impact on Sub-Ordinates' Task Performance. It was also found that Sub-Ordinates' OCB has a significant impact on their Task Performance. Clan, Adhocracy and Market Culture performed a mediatory role between Leader's Emotional Intelligence and Sub-Ordinates' OCB and Task Performance. From these results, it can be concluded that Leaders with high Emotional Intelligence competencies help in Shaping Organizational Culture, make it more productive for their Sub-Ordinates and help them to exhibit greater organizational commitment.

Book Organizational Processes and Received Wisdom

Download or read book Organizational Processes and Received Wisdom written by Daniel J. Svyantek and published by IAP. This book was released on 2014-03-01 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Research in Organizational Sciences volume to explore and question the received wisdom of organizational sciences. The chapters in this volume (and the companion volume) seek to establish boundary conditions for important organizational constructs and processes. They illustrate the importance of context for interpreting the received wisdom of organizational science by showing when constructs must be adapted to changing circumstances. The volume begins with four chapters looking at the construct of leadership. Each of these addresses an important aspect of our understanding of leadership and its practice. The four chapters on leadership are followed by five chapters dealing with other organizational processes including motivation, organizational change, the role of diversity in organizations and organizational citizenship. The last three chapters deal with the issue of knowledge in large systems. Two chapters address how information may be transmitted across organizations and generations of workers. The final chapter deals with the use of information by organizational decision-makers. The 12 papers in this volume all, in some way question received wisdom and present alternatives which expand our understanding of organizational behavior. These chapters each strive to present new ways of understanding organizational constructs, and in so doing reveal how received wisdom does not always lead to best practice in research or application. It is our hope that these chapters illustrate how challenging received wisdom in organizational studies can provide new ways of thinking about organizational processes. These new ways of thinking in turn can provide better understanding of the processes necessary to increase organizational effectiveness.

Book The Emotionally Strong Leader

Download or read book The Emotionally Strong Leader written by Carolyn Stern and published by Figure 1 Publishing. This book was released on 2022-10-04 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Emotionally Strong Leader offers those leading our workplaces, organizations, and institutions an opportunity to transform their leadership and their lives by learning to harness the power contained in recognizing and understanding their feelings. For leaders, managing their emotions and leading with a strong mind and a kind heart while using a set of clear, simple, and tested skills and strategies will enable them to connect more authentically and communicate more effectively with their colleagues and teams. This kind of connection and communication creates an environment of trust and belonging that will spur engagement, spike curiosity, and engender fraternity in the workplace. How does one get there? By leading with emotional intelligence. Unfortunately, too many leaders choose another path; one that eschews their emotions and those of their employees as bothersome and unimportant to the task at hand. This limited and damaging viewpoint tends to make people feel as though they are simply task-managing machines and not the terrific and complex individuals full of energy, passion, and unlimited potential that they are. What we need are leaders who understand themselves from the inside out, who know why they do what they do, and who use the information their feelings provide to help them make informed, rational decisions—especially when the stakes are high. We need leaders who express humility, engage in genuine and caring conversations with the people they lead, and who aren’t afraid to admit when they make a mistake. We need executives who are both emotional and strong. Author Carolyn Stern’s six-step self-coaching model—adapted from emotional intelligence courses she’s developed for major universities and corporations across North America—is backed by decades of field experience and top science on emotions and behavior. Stern’s model is the tool leaders need to uncover their barriers to growth and change, set personal goals, and tap into their motivation. It will give them the means and drive to manage the hurdles life throws at them, dramatically impacting their performance, results, and happiness. Simply put, The Emotionally Strong Leader will turn the way readers think about leading on its head.

Book Salsa Soul and Spirit

Download or read book Salsa Soul and Spirit written by Juana Bordas and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2012-03-25 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tapping the potential of the changing workforce, consumer base, and citizenry requires a leadership approach that resonates with our country's growing diversity. In "Salsa, Soul, and Spirit," Juana Bordas shows how incorporating Latino, African American, and American Indian approaches to leadership into the mainstream has the potential to strengthen leadership practices and inspire today's ethnically rich workforce. Bordas identifies eight core leadership principles common to all three cultures, principles deeply rooted in each culture's values and developed under the most trying conditions. Using a lively blend of personal reflections, interviews, and historical background, she shows how these principles developed and illustrates the creative ways they've been put into practice in these communities (and some forward-looking companies). Bordas brings these principles together into a multicultural leadership model that offers a more flexible and inclusive way to lead and a new vision of the role of the leader in the organization. Multicultural leadership resonates with many cultures and encourages diverse people to actively engage. In a globalized economy, success for leaders in the future will rest on their ability to shift to a multicultural approach. "Salsa, Soul, and Spirit" provides conceptual and practical guidelines for beginning that process.
