Book Device based Training of Armor Crewmen

Download or read book Device based Training of Armor Crewmen written by Gary A. Moody and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the Abrams Tank Crewman One-Step Unit Training as a case study, this study identifies alternative approaches for individual training and analyzes their cost implications. It suggests that although the current course's content and length is consistent with job requirements in the initial duty assignment, more efficient training techniques can be used in resident instruction. The analysis shows that many armor-specific tasks currently taught using tanks can be taught using training aids, devices, simulators, and simulations (TADSS). In addition, the amount of computer-based training (CBT) can be increased in basic training. Expanded use of TADSS to replace training on vehicles can provide substantial savings in operating and support costs, but the level of costs and savings depends on how the devices and course changes are implemented. If new trainers and simulators must be developed and procured, savings will be cut. The study also found that savings differ across devices. Although substituting TADSS for tanks appears cost effective, the evidence for CBT is mixed.

Book Design Institutional and Unit Sustainment Training Programs for XM1 Armor Crewmen

Download or read book Design Institutional and Unit Sustainment Training Programs for XM1 Armor Crewmen written by Charlotte H. Campbell and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an effort to reduce the costs and increase the efficiency of initial and sustainment training of XM1 armor crewmen, the Army is exploring the use of simulators for driving and tank gunnery. Assessment of transfer of training to operational equipment and estimation of the predictive validity of proficiency on a simulator are addressed empirically by the Army's operational testing system for device evaluation. The purpose of this report is to present the products prepared in response to the Task 1 and Task 2 requirements for Mission-Based Simulation and Training Requirements to design institutional training for XM1 driving and gunnery, and unit sustainment training for XM1 gunnery. Specifically, three products are presented: Capabilities analyses for XM1 armor crewman training devices; Recommended training program for XM1 armor crewman institutional training; Recommended unit sustainment training program for XM1 gunnery. This book was released on 1982 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed analysis was conducted of armor operations to provide the basis for developing a set of platoon drills for combined individual and collective armor training. The analysis provided information on the stages of armor operations, the individual and collective tasks that are performed during each stage, training objectives for these tasks, leadership tasks that are performed during each stage, and the types of factors that affect armor operations during combat. Keywords: Armor; Tanks(Combat Vehicles); Army Training; Platoon Operations; Tank Crew; Platoon Drills; Crew Tasks; Tank Commander; and Mission Analysis.

Book A Progressive Resistance Weight Training Program Designed to Improve the Armor Crewman s Strength

Download or read book A Progressive Resistance Weight Training Program Designed to Improve the Armor Crewman s Strength written by Bradley W. May and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The duties of a tank crewman are physically demanding. If a tank crewman is stronger, he will perform his job better, easier, quicker, and safer. Therefore, the focus of this thesis is the design of a weight training program to improve individual strength which will result in enhanced performance. While U.S. Army physical fitness manuals contain substantial information on weight training and principles of strength training, current doctrine does not address the specific needs of armor crewmen in the performance of their tasks. Because there is no standardized or sample weight training program, each soldier must design his own plan by selecting exercises from the manuals. The goal of my research is to bridge this gap by synthesizing this information into a prototype program.

Book Device Based Training of Armor Crewmen

Download or read book Device Based Training of Armor Crewmen written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents results of a research project entitled Future Individual Training Strategies. The overall project objectives are to identify and assess alternative training strategies that may be more efficient and affordable than current techniques for conducting Army individual training, with special attention given to resident training conducted in U.S. Army schools. Here the authors present results of one of three case studies of specialized skill training in an Army military specialty. Each case study examines current job requirements and training approaches, identifies alternative methods of conducting training consistent with new Army training concepts, and analyzes resources, costs, and potential consequences of changes in training strategy.

Book Trial Implementations of the Tank Crewman Skills Training Program TCST

Download or read book Trial Implementations of the Tank Crewman Skills Training Program TCST written by Richard E. O'Brien and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the adaptation of a modular, performance based, individually-paced tank crewman skills training program (TCST) for trial implementation in five different tank crew train-up situations: (1) mobilization train-up of active and reserve crewmen in a training center environment, (2) mobilization train-up of training center crews, (3) individual readiness training of armor crewmen preparing for unit gunnery training, (4) accelerated training of tank crew replacements, and (5) accelerated refresher training of experienced crews deprived of regular gunnery training. Two of the five studies produced positive results. In one, the training center active and reserve mobilization train-up, TCST produced trainee skill levels and opinions superior to those resulting from two alternative programs. In the other, the accelerated tank crew replacement training, TCST was used successfully in rapidly preparing non-11E soldiers to fill in as gunners and loaders on a gunnery qualification test--a Table VIII test in which the crews with replacements performed as well as experienced intact crews. Results of the other three trial implementations were inconclusive. A need exists for some kind of TCST to be used in preparing combat ready crews. The TCST program has a number of promising features, but needs further development. Of particular importance is the need for detailed trainer guidance on how to plan, schedule and deliver training.

This book was released on 1985 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research was conducted to develop a rapid train-up program for M60A3 Armor Force mobilization or reconstitution. The training products developed consist of a set of training modules for use in preparing tank commanders, gunners, drivers, and loaders for combat; a Trainer's Guide that provides the trainer with 'how to train' information; and a Training Manager's Guide that tells the company commander how to manage the rapid train-up program. Also, these training materials can be used to train non-armor personnel as a tank loader, sustainment-train armor crewmen in their duty position, and to cross-train them in other duty positions. Keywords: Armor training, Tank Crew Training, sustainment training, Training management.

Book Tank Crewman M60A1 Training Modules

Download or read book Tank Crewman M60A1 Training Modules written by Richard E. O'Brien and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document provides training outlines and administrative guidance for promoting M60A1 tank crewman readiness. Administrative guidance, time estimates and equipment requirements for training are given first. Remaining sections of the report are detailed outlines of training for the crew positions, driver, loader, gunner, and tank commander. The training outlines address knowledge and skill aspects of the important crewman tasks: those tasks that are most relevant to crew gunnery proficiency. The training is designed for use by the unit commander in promoting proficiency in the conduct of before-operations checks, disassembling and assembling weapons, and driving, loading, and shooting in a tactical setting. When used with three companion documents, Tank Crewman (M60A1) Readiness Tests, Tank Crew (M60A1) Performance Exercise, and Program Management for a Tank Crewman Skills Training Program, the module outlines provide and integrated 'train-up' package for annual gunnery evaluation.
